While Solas's position is frustrating, I can see why he doesn't think of political change (elf rights, King Bhelen, elven heroes, etc.) as actual change.  He thinks there's something fundamentally wrong with the very fabric of the world.  What does he care if Briala is Marquess of the Dales?  It doesn't restore the immortality of his people.  It doesn't recreate the marvels of the old empire.  At the very best, it gives them a pale imitation of the power, glory, and spiritual depth that was once taken for granted.  At least from his perspective; I think modern Thedosians would very much beg to differ

I'm Canadian.  I just watch a lot of BBC shows on Netflix and what not.  One of our channels here carried Broadchurch so that was how I saw it.  Also really loved The Fall and Luther.  Love Doctor Who.  (Unfortunately never watched any of Classic Who)  My engagement ring has the Tardis on it, fiance picked it out on his own.

I agree there's more to it than that.  It's why he doesn't see all the tiny steps that have been taken as progress.  As far as he's concerned, even the most titanic efforts on quizzy's part are the equivalent of taking Tylenol when you're dying.

Okay - how many of us here are British? Just curious. For ages I felt like I was the only Brit. I know Solas is Scottish and Keith^{tm siha} is from the UK. Who else?

I was convinced you were American Illyria! British here, half English half Scottish specifically. Lived in Yorkshire for a while, currently located in the (much less exciting) West Midlands.

Also Dr. Who has sucked for a long while. Controversially, nine was my favourite modern doctor. Most British TV is kinda meh imo.

I definitely think this is true. The world is broken with the veil how it is. It might be the reason why we have monstrosities like the nightmare growing bigger and bigger. I don't think Solas is wrong for wanting to bring the old world back- I just wish he'd cool his heels for five seconds and figure out if there's a way we can do it without the high risk for massive casualty. 

 

I'm also concerned about what Flemythal said about her betrayal. She says 'I was betrayed, the whole world was betrayed!' Solas isn't her betrayer, so she's not talking about the veil. So what did the evanuris do to betray the world? I don't think she means it in a symbolic sense. Even Solas says that they were on the road to destroying the world.

Nine was our fave as well.  *shrug* I enjoy it.  Last season's been kind of meh though.  Love Capaldi, just not enjoying the story arc.

If you were a Trevelyan, you could potentially aim pretty high. Anora and Celene can both be single. There's also Sebastian, who is single if you don't pursue him with Lady Hawke. Alistair can also rule alone as well.

 

As a non-human, your options are going to be a lot more limited, as its hard to predict which people would agree to marry a commoner.

I was only pointing out the irony that Solas's change is coming now after there is so much potential for change by itself instead of when all the elves were Tevinter slaves or some such period. Although I do wonder if he'd be so willing to commit to these drastic actions if the elves and mages were treated better. I personally don't think he would have since he already seems to be doubting himself at certain points (like the waterfall scene). But either way, my point still stands about Solas being too fixated on the past (which given his circumstances is to be expected).

Or maybe it could work.  Varric's not over Bianca, Lavellan's not over Solas.  Match made in political heaven

And I'm sure there are frillions of nobles who would love to get into bed both literally and politically with quizzy.

Yeah, I know of Anora and Celene. But both seem out of the question because Lavellan is obviously not Trevelyan -and because Alistair doesn't even take an elven warden as his queen I doubt he'd take the Inquisitor as his queen. So Sebastian seems most likely and he at least has a war table mission with the Inquisitor. Gosh this would be one hell of a weird fanfiction.

 

@Sable: Oh my god Varric and Inquisitor in a political marriage, pfffft! "Ahh, guess we play some cards again today, Varric?" They'd probably get drunk together a lot, lol. But ugh, no, not Gaspard! I'm just imagining both of them trying to kill each other through shady methods.
