I don't think Patrick Weekes sounded less excited. It sounded like he was trying to match the tone with the character, or like he was being really ambiguous. But even if Solas turns out to be completely 'normal' I think I will still love him.  Really excited for his open-mindedness. We have had almost no companions open to most anything.

Solas sounds great, even though he doesn't seem to have any ancient elf ties. I think I'm going to like him a lot. I'm still hoping he'll be an LI. lol

 

Of course, if he was an ancient elf, I imagine that would be a spoiler, and not something we'd know about him right away...

It’s still dangerous, but because Solas found the Fade on his own, he went in without preconceptions, letting him explore the area and befriend spirits without the black-and-white mentality that holds back mages trained in the Circle. While everyone else guards themselves, assuming everything in the Fade is a threat, Solas will find a brilliant unimaginable light, smile delightedly, and move in for a closer look.

After my initial reaction of "is this real? Is this true? Has this day finally come? Am I dreaming, or do we have actual Solas info?" and "YESSSSSSSSSSSS"...

 

I am not disappointed and I have to say everything about him sounds really really fascinating   He actually sounds a bit like a pretty low-key, mellow sort of guy, personality-wise! And it seems the speculation back in the old thread on him being a monk/shaman type was spot-on, too, with his self-taught Fade knowledge and method of learning consisting of living in isolation and spending a lot of time in what's another plane in a sense. I'm really interested in how starkly different his perspective on practically everything else is from the rest of the party's, and all the philosophical differences. And I do get the sense that there a few things being either hidden or sort of omitted in that interview, but I think that Solas' connection to the Fade is going to make him a very plot involved character and thus full of spoilers, which is the reason why it goes a bit less into detail than the others'. 

 

I'm very fond of the slightly updated face, personally. I really like those think, long, sharp features and how he looks a bit more distinctly elven and less humanoid, and brings to mind the elven design from DA2. Also looks a bit more like some of his concept art appearances, and in general he has much more distinct facial features. 

 

On the other hand, Solas and Cole get along rather wonderfully.

[PW]: Yes; Cole is trying to figure out what that means, and Solas can answer a lot of Cole’s questions.

Oh, also, forgot to mention but: Patrick Weekes is writing him, too? Huh. I'm pleasantly surprised because I find the prospect pretty promising, but still surprised! And if he's going to be voiced by Branson, that will take some getting used to.
