The one thing I left out that is also important:  Regardless how the Veil comes down and the gods are freed, regardless of your potential antagonism or allegiance with Mythal thereafter based on your choices in Inquisition, you'll probably have to work with Mythal/Flemeth/Morrigan in the end anyway because I imagine having a bunch of infuriated ancient elven gods around is not going to be conducive to anyone's good health.  If you redeemed Solas, too, he will be in especial danger because of what he did to those ancient elven gods.

 

So you might end up hating Mythal for what she does, but still having to work with her to clean up her mess.

 

Alternatively, after years of torment, it's possible the ancient elven gods are weakened or changed for the better, and you're still going to need to be anti-Mythal.  In a darker scenario, they could be changed for the worse or even Blighted.

 

I can only guess.  I don't know for sure.

I always stick with Mahanon when I create m!Elf Inquisitor, even though I don't know how to pronounce it.

 

In my headcanon, Ilaria has a mage twin - Mahanon - where only a last minute decision from their Keeper decided it was Ilaria going to the Conclave instead of her brother.

 

Btw, does anyone have any fleshed out characters for Clan Lavellan?

 

I have a core group of hunters/guards that Ilaria leads expeditions with (that I created because I couldn't believe my girl was capable of leading anything unless she had prior experience, but that's my taste) with their own designs and personality, and if I knew how to draw better than the anime style I use I'd have shared them here, but I'm interested to hear if anyone else does.

 

I think of "mahalo" when I see Mahanon. Maybe they're pronounced completely. But I don't know.

 

I have some of the important people in my Lavellan's life mostly known to me. Her parents - mother is a tanner/leatherworker, father is a clan merchant. Her younger sister Ela grew up idolizing her and also became a clan hunter. Ela was effectively betrothed to the First, (who rode along to the Conclave and died there). Their younger brother is an apprentice craftsman.

 

Also, my Lavellan's close friend/her onetime love, Nehnariel, and her wife, a mage originally from another clan. And some of Nehn's family.

 

With mine, she was chosen to attend the Conclave after much work, especially after beginning to accompany her father on merchant trips, interacting with humans, being able to not antagonize them or constantly call them shems....a slice of diplomacy, if you will.

From the wikipedia article of dog behaviour (which is basically the same as that of wolves for the most part), this suggests that Solas is experiencing apprehension, timidness and insecurity about what he's doing.

I've never felt she could be trusted.  If I am proven wrong, that will be a pleasant surprise.  But we do still know what's going to happen thanks to various in-game prophecies from DA:O onward--we don't know HOW, or WHO, but she seems a likely suspect.

No; we will stop Solas, and a better way won't come from Mythal.

 

If things happened easily, then there wouldn't be space for another game after DA4.  I think the developers said there were plans for something like 7 games total, but who knows?  DA4 or DA5 could always be the final game, and that is assuming DA4 gets made (which it probably will but we have zero confirmation and BioWare has a lot of other projects going on right now).  Nothing is certain.

 

So no, the Veil will be taken down, and while it might not end the world, the event will be cataclysmic.  Either it will usher in the "real" plot of DA4 when we discover Solas was not the real threat after all, or it will end DA4 and give us a plot setup for DA5.

 

I have no idea what the next plot will be when the Veil is taken down, unless we're intended to slay the ancient elven gods at that point.  Therefore, it stands to reason that the ancient elven gods being freed would happen at the end of DA4, rather than the middle--but there's no guarantee of that.

 

If there's a game after that, it will be set in a world with political power violently unbalanced, everyone in possession of magic (so Circle or College mages are effectively irrelevant), Titans waking, and possibly the two (or three if we include that mysterious heretofore unknown eighth one) remaining Old Gods waking and rising.  We may get another Blight.

 

It seems that all along, Dragon Age has been the reverse of the typical fantasy story.  In most fantasy, you see a world where magic is dying out, often being replaced by technology or even the world outright ending.  In Dragon Age, we've got something unique in that it appears to be the story of magic returning to the world.  So will our final plot involve sealing magic away again with a brand new Veil?

Call me crazy, but I hope that Dragon Age 4 is the last game in the series. I think seven is way too much. The first problem is the constantly changing protagonists. Each new game gives you a character to role play as, you put time and effort and admiration towards this characters just for them to shoveled off to the side for the next one. The more characters you create the less time you can spend giving proper closer to their story. Which brings us to the next problem. BioWare isn't like most other game developers. Your choices transfer to the next game and on and on, but eventually that is going to become a huge clusterfluff of loose ends left untied and fans upset because their favorite stories weren't resolved/acknowledged. I like the world of Thedas, but I keep adventuring into the games because of the connecting story and characters. Adding more and more to that will make it so bloated that it will leave no one happy. And how many special chosen one types can you even have in a single series? Bethesda does it, but those games are only loosely connected with one another, the exact opposite of Dragon Age. 

 

I think BioWare spending their time and effort into an amazing finale would be awesome, but the longer they prolong it the more effort they will have to put in tying up all the loose ends. The farther along the series goes the less your Warden, Hawke, Inquisitor, and all their companions will matter, which I find personally very frustrating. 

 

Bring out the torches and pitchforks I am ready!

How big is the book? I've never read a game spinoff novel before because I have this nagging feeling game writers writing abilities won't transfer well to full length novels, but I guess I won't know if I don't try.

I actually agree with a great deal of this.  I think 7 would be too many especially if you take into account the amount of choices they need to keep track of - even with not all choices made previously being relevant in future games.  However, I'm not sure that the current threads can all be wrapped up in one more game.  I'm thinking maybe 2 more.  That would bring us at 5 games total.  And I'm getting tired of the new protagonists.  One of the reasons I really loved ME was because it was the same character across all 3 games.  And whilst I enjoyed Skyrim, Fallout 3, Fallout: NV, they didn't draw me in the way ME or Dragon Age has.

I mean, you lock the elven god of ultimate blacksmiths and gadgeteer geniuses in an inescapable prison for all eternity and expect them not to attempt to MacGyver some way of getting out of there? It's like expecting no problems after locking Tony Stark in a cave with a box of scraps!

This is why I think they're working towards implementing Inky more into the fabric of DA4 - I don't thing Inquisitor will be the main protagonist, but the likelihood of getting him/her as secondary PC I think is far from unlikely.

 

Anyway - I've heard that Bioware might have things planned out for 2 future chapters. I think the next title will be us trying to unravel Solas' plans, while at the same time finding out about what's the deal with Old Gods, Blight, Evanuris and else... but then there will be the next one, where everything actually comes to a head, and the team of those on the 'good side' (who knows, perhaps with Solas in it in some way, if we indeed manage to convince him to change his plans) will have to make the final stand - and the accumulated decisions from every game will shape how Thedas will look like after the dust settles...

I think it's also interesting to note that the voice caress said Flemeth will casually discard people as easily as she cares about them.

It's kind of a terrible world for elves though, isn't it?

 

She hasn't lifted a finger to help them, and if a Dalish Inquisitor asks her where the heck she's been all these centuries and why hasn't she answered their prayers or helped them, she pretty much blows you off to talk about her own plans to avenge her own death. 

 

That said, I do tentatively trust her and have since the beginning... (my Warden believed her when she said she was genuinely trying to help them against the Blight, then felt betrayed when Morrigan revealed that she was just using them to get the soul of an Old God. My Lavellan tentatively trusts that Mythal won't use the Well to make her do terrible things) ... but I'm also half-expecting that she'll make me eat my words.

Solas says that Mythal cared for her people and protected them.....and looking back at meeting Flemythal and what she says to a Dalish inquisitor made me change my mind a little on what she says there.

 

She said "You know not what you ask for, child." This comes off more to me now as what the people are asking her for is not the best thing for them in her point of view.

 

Looking back I think that Mythal would like to help the elves.....it's just she is an ancient being and is probably the wiser on what way is best to help the elves. I mean, Mythal...or at least what is left of her....seems to like modern elves. She liked Merrill and I don't know about other Dalish Inquisitors but she called my Lavellan someone bright who does the People proud.

 

It's late and I know I"m probably not making much sense.....I just wouldn't be surprised if Mythal has planted some serious seeds to help the elves...especially if it helps her ultimate revenge plan.

 

 

Which sadly seems that it would include getting back at June...which I personally find unacceptable.

 

But let's be real....we all know June was innocent. Mythal is going to whoop all of the Evanuris except him.

He may just be short on supplies in his Fade prison, but if he really wants to prove himself.......

 

I now have this amazing image of th Veil suddenly collapsing, the world DOESN"T end..just everything goes back to the way it was.....and the Evanuris walk up Solas who is like "WTF?!?!?! HOW?!?!?"
