I don't think Solas would ever get jealous in the traditional sense.  He did break up with her.  But I think he might be...jealous in a more convoluted, Solas-y sort of way?

I actually thought about this when I decided my Lavellan was going to get busy with other people during that two years.  I don't think he'd be angry or possessive or anything.  Depending on the nature of the relationship, I think he might be sad that someone else could bring her comfort and companionship during a time when he only caused her pain.  That he couldn't be the one who was there for her.

 

And the hellspiral begins again.

 

Iiii.... don't think so. Especially not after what I hear her voice actress has to say about her in this video.

So many pages to catch up on to! (Uhm... that's a lot of prepositions. I am sure some of these are not needed in that particular sentence, but I'll blame it on my non-nativeness. Here.)

 

Finished In Your Heart Shall Burn, and after flirting up Cullen, Blackwall, Iron Bull and Sera... ended up with the blasted elf anyway. Although Cullen being worried is kind of sweet. Anxiously stalking-like sweet, I suppose.

 

Regarding the Fade kiss, I've realized, that this Lavellan is not only so totally in him (and I play her as fiercely pro-elven, kind of a bookkeeper of her clan, trying to salvage what history is left of their nation... she's into a bit of surprise, isn't she), but it's all going to be entirely her fault. She's done her move first, and she is persistent! He said that they shouldn't already there and than. Than he warned her later on in Skyhold, sipping his disgusting cuppa, that the relationship will lead to trouble. (Trouble? I am Miss Trouble, excuse me!) 

Nevertheless, here it is.

About Trespasser choices:

I started to feel a bit annoyed that we don't get the option to actually side with Solas. I think we can express some understanding but we cannot say "I think you should totally do this and I will support you as best as I can, down with the veil!" Somehow we are forced into maintaining the world as it is. Not that I want to make another choice personally (I haven't actually made up my mind yet) but I want to have the option at least. From a gameplay perspective this choice doesn't mean too much; I could simply fail in the attempt. So why do I have to oppose Solas's plan?

 

In general, are there any choices in Trespasser that actually mean something or that will play out differently? My current assumption is no but I am not sure.

A romanced Inquisitor does get the option to join him, he just refuses to accept it. The option itself was "I agree with your goals", and leads to:

 

LAVELLAN: Let me help you, Solas.

SOLAS: I cannot do that to you, vhenan.

LAVELLAN: But you would do it to yourself? I cannot bear to think of you alone.

SOLAS: I walk the Din'anshiral. There is only death on this journey. I would not have you see what I become.

 

Whether this happens with a non-romanced Inquisitor, I don't know, but that's the dialogue I got. I choose it almost every time, but sometimes I swap to "Why is that necessary?" because we get a bit of a compliment from him:

 

LAVELLAN: Why does this world have to die for the elves to return?

SOLAS: A good question, but not one I will answer. You have always shown a thoughtfulness I respected. It would be too easy to tell you too much. I am not Corypheus. I take no joy in this. But the return of my people mean the end of yours.

 

I particularly like the emboldened part, rather than get a "you know not what you ask, child" that Flemeth gives (or whatever it is she says), Solas openly admits he'd probably end up blabbing everything to you because he likes that you listen.

 

Also I find the last part interesting. Who does Solas think is my people? Is it -as Inquisitor- everybody; human, dwarf, qunari? Or is it modern elves and this points to modern elves not getting a free pass as some of those in the epilogue slides seem to think? Or all of the above?

Solas says that his plan means "the end of this world", so it means all creatures. The elves have changed through the existence of the veil. They no longer are immortal or as infused with (and resistant to) magic as they used to be. After all it is said that the ancient world needed magic to exist, hence its removal lead to collapse and decay, because integral parts of the (until then) physical world were suddenly missing. Tearing down the veil will unleash strong magic and free any sort of demons. I strongly assume that no living thing (or hardly any) will be able to survive this (for long). Maybe just some Darwinian principle, the survival of the fittest, which can be elven, dwarven, human in origin but most likely will turn out to be demonic or ancient elven instead, or just any sort of creature more resistant to magic. I'd compare it to a viral infection; the virus used to be normal and "harmless" before, when the organisms were still used to it, but then it was isolated and banned. So when it comes back, the remaining organisms don't have antibodies anymore. (Only that the virus in this case is magic and the antibodies are the individual's resistance to magic). If your resistance isn't high enough you shall perish.

to go back and keep my vallaslin, I like the idea of my Inqi opposing Solas in more way then one, yes there are slave symbols but they changed to mean something else over the type, they represent ideals. Solas being infatuate with Inqi who kept her vallaslin is sort of symbolic.

On the other hand, after I know even more about the Evanuris the marks kind of disgust me.

Just again, to point out, he's pretty devastated sounding and utterly morose when describing his plan to a friend quizzy too. I know it's easy to get swept away with the Lavellan feels and to think of it all through the perspective of a romance, with concerns about her being the only reason he's so sad, but it's far more complex than this.

 

I think, no matter how much he protests, part of him realises that he;s just as bad as Corypheus. Sure, he's not wanting to be a god, not wanting to rule others, but he's still willing to destroy the present to (futility in my opinion) resurrect the past. He engaged with people, playing cards with Blackwall, reading Varric's books, being pranked by Sera or mind chess with Bull. It's spoken aloud with the end of the relationship when Cole says "You're real...and it means everyone else could be real too. It changes everything but it can't." but even without a relationship, I think Solas sees the Inquisitor and, somewhat slower, her companions as real also and starts to realise exactly what he'd be destroying. Not just faceless, tranquil animals but a new form of his People, just as flawed as the old and with just the same amount of potential.

 

However this ends, it won't be with a "only your love will save me" plot. I sincerely hope if there's redemption, it comes from his realisation that however flawed the people in Thedas are now, they deserve to live and not be sacrificed on the alter of his past mistakes.

Oh man, is this what Laidlaw was hinting at when he said that having Merrill keep the Eluvian intact would be a really bad thing?

 

Still, I don't know if Merrill would join Solas if she knew exactly what he was planning. Actually, it's really uncertain how many of his agents are actually in on the whole plan or whether they're being used as a pawns.

 

Then again, it's not like she'd be the first female elf who's willing to overlook that because she's gone all goey over him. When you factor in Andruil and Lavellan, that dashing and dastardly dread wolf has a lot of women clamouring to enjoy his d...eep meaningful conversations.

I'm not so sure anymore that the reunification of the Fade and the Waking World means everybody dies from some sort fundamental lack of compatibility with their new, magical environment. The Inquisitor and several distinctly non-magical companions (read: Varric) have been into the Fade physically. Solas makes a big deal about that, incidentally. I'm leaning towards Solas' "end of the world" comments meaning that people will be freaking out: fighting spirits/demons, fighting each other, not understanding what's safe/not safe in their new environment, etc.

My quizzy is a mage, she was (at first) reluctant to remove the vallaslin (before I even played Trespasser) and then somehow was convinced by Solas anyhow ("I didn't mean to hurt you" and "you deserve better than what these cruel marks represent"). She's not overly connected to the Dalish culture, but she isn't against it in any way. She's too detached so I think it was easier to sway her either way because of her neural standing.

I was thinking of replaying the last part of the game + Trespasser so I don't know whether to keep it or not.

Especially since seeing the fresco in which Fen'Harel removes the vallaslin touched her, and the knowledge of the true nature of the Evanuris made her thankful for Solas' proposal.

In regards to my earlier post, I would like to say that I think much of it can also be applied to a friendship inquisitor as well. He would still be distraught and feel anguish at the fact that his anchor is now killing a dear friend who initially had nothing whatsoever to do with his plans. 

 

I just like to think that there's more to it in terms of the romance with him and that Cyran's musings give a new perspective and/or added layer of complexity to his plans. His plans wouldn't have changed in any way as we all know from the dlc, but I feel that it sheds some more light on some of his choice of words and how he feels. The emotional reveal is very much the same between a friendship quisitor and a romanced quisitor, but there's enough difference there to let me think that his pain is more and deeper.

 

The scenario might not be fully applicable, but a lot of it could

Because I am clearly sick-in-the-head with my wild fantasies, I decided to draw out my weird head-canon for my Dalish Archer Lavellan, Nanaya. Out of my Elfquisitors, Nanaya seemed more like the motherly type, or least would want a family with someone like Solas, so here she is with her son (name undecided). I've a long story to explain how the hell this would even happen or work at all, but it'll take too long to write out XD

 

She's missing her anchor-arm, incidentally, so it's obviously after she chose to disband the Inquisition.

I ended up being glad my quizzy got rid of hers. There's a bit of an emotional lurch when you find that mural of him removing vallaslin. And it's not specific to Solasmancers, but after you find that mural, Sera starts drawing a copy in her journal, and scribbles it out with a little note saying "Not my hurt to keep". She's referring to elves in general, but my first time through IT REALLY FELT LIKE SHE WAS SYMPATHISING WITH INKY ABOUT SOLAS and I got a little teary.

Idk, my quizzy had Dirthamen's vallaslin - seeing the abandoned temple of Dirthamen, alongside the revelation they were slave markings, convinced her to take them off.

If she had Mythal's markings - which in retrospect, probably suit my Quizzy more, ten more years or so and she'd totally be the sort to mother people - then I think she would think twice. There's a beautiful irony there as much as anything else.

I'm glad too though - no secret blood magic hidden in vallaslin, thank god.

When I get around to making my Seramancing Lavellen, she'll definitely have the American voice So, that's three of us!
