Headcanon times guys. What do you think will happen the next time Lavellan and Solas meet? What do they talk about? What's the context? What happens then?

Mine will definitely try prying more details from him. She definitely doesn't like being so much in the dark about this. I think she knows she can't ask too directly - so she might ask about Solas' past - now the cat is out of the bag (or wolf, I suppose), he can go into more detail, no harm done, right?

Hopefully, she'd find out about Mythal + Fen'Harel's complicated friendship (I'm personally of the opinion that he was a former slave/servant). I think that would probably be one of her leads - convincing him that he's not obliged to her, as well as tipping her off that even if Solas is swayed, there's still another power at work.

In terms of the how/when, I imagine she'd sneak out of a formal occasion at Dorian's estate in Minrathous (sneaking out of formal occasions is her forte, of course), to sneak into the private library. I imagine there would be some information about dreaming and visions that'd allow her to snare him to there - or, whilst doing that, she catches a missive from a spy in the servants, with a time + location in the city. She sneaks across the rooftops of the city to find him.

I think the first thing she does is beg for dialogue - that it's ridiculous that he's keeping tabs on her, following her, without speaking. I reckon he'll be surprised to realise that he's not so subtle after all. And he probably wasn't expecting a confrontation and wasn't prepared for the conversation - hopefully allowing Lavellan and him opportunities to talk again.

Not that it's not important, it's just so tied to one subset of players that it seems  unlikely it will be something.  Removing it/keeping it is also sort of a deeply personal choice for the player - same like Spirit/Human Cole.  There is good arguments on both sides and again it seems to be for RP purposes anyway.

I think what you wrote is pretty much the reason why I understood why Solas did what he did to Felassan. I love Felassan and I love Solas and yes, it sucks that Solas was the one who offed him but for me at least, it's not hard to see why he did it.

I like to think that, in her bid to figure out what comes next in Solas' plan, Ellana gets herself in more trouble than she can take on herself. Since her friends all have their own things, she's down to traveling mostly alone and when she happens upon a group of Qunari/slaver/pick your poison, the fight isn't going in her favor. But, Solas has her watched, supposedly so he can know her plans but really because he also think she's being reckless. When he learn from his agent that she's in trouble, he goes in a towering rage. Next thing Ellana knows, the dread wolf is tearing down her enemies to rescue her from harm. There's some cuddling; she tries to get him to talk or even just stay longer. He gets convinced to spend the night after she says she doesn't want to be alone anymore. "This doesn't change anything, vhenan." "I know." Then, when she wakes in the morning, he's gone again.

I actually don't know.  I like to think my girl will try to have a very specific plan in place when seeing him again. But I think she may understand that she's going to have to play it be ear when she sees him again and it's also going to rely heavily on what he's done or about to do and if he can be stopped.  If he can't and he's too fargone...it would be hard but she would have to   My Iona is too idealistic.  Too caring to let him do something that will kill a lot of people.  And then she'll cry.  

 

If he can be stopped.  I think she's going to need space and some time.  That's a lot of hurt. I mean l the player think he's pretty sexual, but my Lavellan would not.    It's going to be a messy healing period if they are going to be a thing.

Ayup!  I was like "DAM DUDE!"  I mean, I have made similar decisions in games when RP-ing(see Obsidian games) -- but it was sort of disquieting when it's a LI.  Which is AWESOME from a story-telling perspective. 

 

I think it was just underscored if you were like "I didn't think you would be capable of something like this" and he's like "oh tiny gremlin!  thank you for thinking im not a monster!! *kiss*"  I was like 'wtf solas?'  In that moment, he was horrifying to me.  

 

I really really love the direction of his character. Because his about-face at the end when he realizes he's doing something wrong is going to be glorious.

Hmm... Well that depends on what they have planned for the next game. But I think that Solas will meet Lavellan in the Fade (ala Haven scene). He will probably leave a trail of breadcrumbs again and drop cryptic hints that can be interpreted a couple different ways to help us stop him. And I have a feeling that we might get to go into a different part of the Crossroads. Solas will come off as cold and calculating but will have moments of genuine warmness albeit very few. Things will be shown to us from the past... some of which will be hard to digest.

Just talking to Solas won't stop him from going down the path he has chosen, we will have to foil his plans at every turn. To prove him wrong yet again. Faith, hope, understanding, love and compassion will be the keys that save him. I trust Cole and he seems to think that Solas is worth saving. My Lavellan won't give up on him that easily.

She feels for people. It's what drives her to look out for them. It makes her a wonderful friend and a fair leader despite her reluctance for the spotlight. But with Solas, it puts her in a "good cannot comprehend evil" situation. She's not the kind of person who could ever kill a friend that coldly, so I don't think she really comprehends how Solas could.

That moment broke my heart more. It was both horror at his plans and the deep meaning behind those two brief statements exchanged between them. It brought me back to Cole's banter about her being real and possibly changing everything, "but it can't".

HAHAHAHAHA....I am glad Patrick kept to 'he could be if this is your headcanon' line of answering. 

 

I think it would be a bit difficult for Lavellan or any Quizz to have a serious genuine relationship with someone outside of their little circle, since most people won't see Lavellan for Lavellan, but instead see the Inquisitor or the Herald of Andraste. Even Varric says he sometimes forget you'er actually a person instead of like "one of those statues of Andraste holding bowels of fire." The people in you're inner circle know you well enough to see beyond that title, but that would be difficult for others on the outside. Even for another dalish elf, who might not be able to get over the fact  that you have a title that reeks of the Chantry. I do headcannon that the Quizz who is single or had broken up with someone would be bombarded with letters from suitors who want a relationship with the Quizz for status and power reasons. 

 

 

I think it's how he says it. He seems to pause a bit and it comes off awkward.

 

Oh and is it just me, or does Cullen always seem to have this vibe that makes me think if I asked to date him and was completely over Solas, he would say yes? I blame Greg for that. Cullen always seems to look at the Inquisitor with so much adoration after Haven.

I love how at the end of Trespasser, he and Cole are the last to leave her side. Cole hesitates to leave and Cullen lingers just a bit longer. Such sweet friendships!

But I always kind of felt several things about my 'world' of inquisition 

 

1) My Lavellan never really got over Solas completely, but, hey, she can get horny sometimes too. Plus maybe she hoped that somehow and someday one of those relatively casual relationships could develop into something bigger and more important.

In conversation with Cass in Trespasser, my Lavellan did tell her that one day she could get married. At the time of the conversation, she truly believed that one day, when she is not inquisitor anymore, she could be together with someone, settled down, old and grumpy. Even though at that point her feelings for Solas were still there, she thought that maybe it is time to move on and think of other people out there that she could fall in love with.

 

By the end of Trespasser, trying to convince Solas to change his mind is the only thing she can think of and do.

 

2)Having said that, she is a symbol to most people and that makes it hard. No one really sees her as a person wanting 'normal boring' person stuff. It's all about doing heroic things and slashing demons for most of them. The inner circle are the only people who can really see the real her, and even so she feels slightly isolated being Dalish and with her clan killed (dammit, I keep forgetting who is the right person to complete that operation EVEY FRIGGING TIME!!!). My Lavellan is pretty Elfy and the only elfy person close to her has left. So despite wanting more casual relationships, she still can't have them. But still companions are the only people that she can truly bond with.

 

3) I always felt that Cullen had a crash on the inquisitor, even when already romancing Solas (that question during chess match). I think some considerable time after Solas leaves, he made a move.  She thought 'well, maybe this will work out, I will give this a try'. And it doesn't work out because a. Solas b. She is just not the right person for Cullen. They eventually get over it and still continue to be friends, tactically avoiding all conversations about 'that night'

 

*I am so sorry everyone who thinks this is cruel to Cullen. I think so too, but my head still goes there... I'm a monster*

Well, Patrick Weekes is a novelist on his own too. He was the first person other than David Gaider to write a DA novel....and now we know why. My digital copy puts it at 381, but that's total including misc pages, so more or less around there.

 

BTW, his Rogue of the Republic series is pretty good IMO. The first book, The Palace Job is excellent! So many lols all the time. Prophecy Con, the second one, is pretty good too! I would recommend. I think there are audiobooks as well, but can't comment on the narrator as I have books in paperback.

I've mentioned it before but I'm an empath and you hit a good point. Understanding someone's very 'evil' actions is easier for someone like me with a ton of facts and motives and being able to look at things from multiple angles. Solas' deep character helps understand what part Felassan's killing could play in a character sense.

 

But it can be a blind spot of sorts in truly understanding and comprehending evil way, especially when it's something where the motives are particularly cold. A recent murder in the news comes to mind. I honestly have not a single bit of understanding why people might act that coldly and can't even intellectualize it well since there's so little info. I always wonder if I could actually write a villain.

 

With fictional characters, at least, we're given depth and layers and ways to read and understand. And having other perspectives, like being on here and elsewhere, can certainly help fill in some blanks.

 

I play my Lavellan as more open. Similarly curious but not 'me'. Still, she has compassion and degrees of empathy, but her experiences have taught her that her openness, which she sometimes questioned as a possible weakness, was not.

Your Lavellan sounds really close to mine, and she would also have trouble accepting Solas killing someone close to him in such cold blood, while at the same time her heart would bleed for him as she realizes from Cole saying so how every time Solas does somehting like this, a little bit of him dies. He loses a little bit of his humanity. She's afraid that, at some point nothing will be left but his all-encompassing guilt and his obsession about destroying the world of today to bring back the one of the past (a fool's errand in her mind, even though the past fascinates her)

I don't think there can be a happy ending where Solas and my Lavellan ride off into the Emerald Graves and start a family. I just don't see it. There's too much there. 

 

I see a few possible outcomes. Redemption through death for Solas. Redemption through death of both Solas and Lavellan (she sacrifices herself for him, he sacrifices himself and prevents his plan from happening at last second. And then there's the options of him actually bringing the veil down, but I need more information before I can possibly consider outcomes.

 

There's too much power between the two of them, status, influence, known- I think at absolute BEST we can hope for is that SOMEHOW she can stop him and they can try to make a difference with the elves together, side by side. Best case scenario. Even I'm not convinced we can even dare to hope for that.

Her hair is shot through with iron-gray on its way to white. Duty has etched deep lines into the hard planes of her face and another break has caused her nose to jut anew. He used to know the map of scars across her skin. Countless foreign battles are now recorded there.

 

But though her limbal rings have faded, her eyes are still like steel, and her back is yet unbent - a small mercy, he thinks, given that he remains unchanged. Vallaslin still mars her expression, brazen and defiant and there. He is put in the mind of an old battleaxe, or an aging Mabari. But for all that and more, the sight of her warms ancient blood that has long run cold. That same proud jaw, that same blazing fury (counting birds against the sun)… still too real to bear.

 

He greets her (vhenan), for what else can he do? Her harsh bark of laughter - bitter, weary - banishes the old endearment from where it hung in the air between them. Time has not dulled the blade of her temper, then.

 

She knows of his secrets, she tells him, and of his plans. He does not ask how she came into this knowledge. Visions born from spectres of memories, or murmurs from the Well perhaps, what does it matter? The lot of elves is better now, she says - of this he is aware. Her dreams reflect her waking hours, and from the Fade he has selfishly peered into them.

 

From the ashes of the Inquisition she forged an elven nation, another homeland gouged out from the face of Thedas with sweat and tears. The campaign was long and bloody, but succeed they did, and for the first time in Ages, in the People hope for the future sprang anew. Her mastery of the Mark's power has grown such that with it she can swallow armies - there are none who dare oppose them, and they have no need for gods. Enasalin.

 

She beseeches him to alter his course, that she might stay her hand. He cannot. He is bound to his cause as she is to hers. His very existence threatens their hard-won peace - the wolf at heaven’s door. She bares her blade. Fen’Harel’s Tooth, he recalls (that greatest of ironies), even as his staff thrums to life. This is preordained, written in stars by some cruel power. It always has been. Alas. So long as the music plays, we dance.

 

He once told her to harden her heart. A foolish thing to say, he realizes now. She has always been hard.
