There's a Marie-Antoinette and French Revolution joke to make here...

MA: What, no bread? Well, let them eat cake!

Everyone else: But... the cake is a lie!

.........

I'll see myself out.

OT, and this might be my childhood catching up with me, but did anyone have their Inquisitor form a bond with their mounts? :D Also did anyone assign specific mounts to certain companions*? It was something I enjoyed in TME where Michel pays attention to his horse and seemed to have bonded with it (although I can't remember what happened to it now).

My girl bought every mount on that signpost, but she only ever stuck with the brown one Master Dennet gave her. I actually haven't named him. D: I should probably do that.

*If any of you say a Pride of Arlathan for Solas I'm allowed to throw pie at you. Just sayin'. :P

He's deeply delusional. Like you can see that he's convinced what he is doing is the ONLY way and no matter how hard you wave your tiny gremlin arms in his face screaming "SOLAS! I'm a Dalish elf with power! People respect me! We can do this differently!", he's like "No tiny gremlin vhenan! this is the only way.  i have to undo my mistake by unmaking the world to stop the false gods who wanted to destroy the world. NEVER FORGET ME TINY GREMLIN!"

And you're just ike 'huh???? but..you're doing the same thing!'

You make me laugh.

Now, in all seriousness, I think part of the issue is that Immortality and living in a world where you can change everything at will does not really build character and prepare one to deal with loss. I think he's living in some state of denial where his rational side realizes his plan won't bring back what he's lost, but his reptile brain is screeching out, "What do you mean it's gone? What do you mean I can't bring it all back? What do you mean I can't possibly fix my mistake? No, I just have to keep trying and reality will bend to my will!"

In the World of Thedas 2 I haven't seen them mention other continents.  Just a lot of history into this one.  They purposefully keep a lot of information vague.  For instance Solas has an appearance but it still refers to him as a hobo apostate(my paraphasing).  It hints like all the rest of the world that something has to exist outside...but not much more than that kind of read between the lines.

I particularly appreciated one point where they had a little excerpt of Cassandra's childhood.  And I'd really like to know why the dead body of Caspar Pentaghast looked at her the way he did.  It made me feel like the story for her might have more fleshing out to do.

I didn't do it for companions but I did do it for my two Inquisitors.

For Lavellan, the red hart whom I named Prongs. Because 1) Ashitaka and 2) Harry Potter.
For Adaar, the nugalope. Because it looks hilarious, and poor Dorian can't handle how deeply uncool his boyfriend can be :P

Never mind "almost," the Avvar are basically my Lavellan's refuge.  She associates them with all of the warm-and-fuzzy feelings of home: kinship, belonging, unconditional loyalty and love.  And a lot of it has to do with the way they treated her in Jaws of Hakkon.  She earned that legend-mark.  She earned their kinship.  And the Avvar value loyalty to a hold above all else.  They don't give a f*** about Solas or being the Herald of Andraste or any of the other things that burden her.  It's actually kind of adorable how well she fit in with them.

Spoiler

I already liked this, but I want to like it again  <3 Exactly how my Lavellan feels.

I don't think Solas is a hypocrite.

My Lavellan certainly did. ^_^  I liked to pretend that she had raised the Red Hart (named him Juno) instead of him being sent by another Dalish clan as a gift to the Inquisition.

I'm a huge animal lover so my characters must always have some sort of an animal companion.

I'm not defending what he's doing, it's horrible, but I think he's not knowingly being a hypocrite. I think he's rationalizing it all in his head in some twisted way that makes everything he's doing OK.

My girl used the Royal Sixteen as soon as she got it.  Even in a synced playthough I probably wont use it until the sucessful completion of the Lavellan missions.

All of my characters must be nice to cats :)  That's the only stipulation.

My Lavellan likes animals just fine, but she thinks of them in terms of usefulness.  The mousers at Skyhold serve a purpose.  Her hart serves a purpose.

Meanwhile my Lavellan is a "need to know" basis kind of person, and took to heart the suggestions and advice he gave Sera about the Jennies. She'll become like the Dread Wolf to thwart him, and you can mark that. Playing out that chess game would be delicious.

Mine used the Royal Sixteen and nothing else after getting it. Though lovely moment when its antlers were too big to fit through an underpass.

Volume 1 is where it's at as far as new information goes. Volume 2 has a little bit, but it's mostly a summarization of events from DAO to now. There's the dwarven ship captains from across the sea who come to trade goods and spices for large quantities of lyrium. They were a regular appearance up until 200 (I think) years ago, and are only just now returning after some "great cataclysm."

Qunari are said to have come from "across the sea" as well. The Executors? Also across the sea. The ancient Neromenian human tribes also came to Thedas from across the sea at the behest of Dumat. Out east AND out west, there are other continents and a lot of potential weirdness going on.

Yeah.  That's the thing - I'm reminded of his discussion of binding cole 'just because i can doesn't mean i will'

it's like 'solas please apply that previous conversation to what you are doing now!'

Ooh, I have accumulated a list of highly ironic lines like this. Some examples:

"Most people act with so little understanding of the world."

"You can't change anything without understanding."

"You have shown wisdom, a subtlety of action..."

I love your profile pic, BTW

AUGH OUT OF LIKES <3 <3 <3

Also, the wisdom of Uncle Iroh to the guy who literally named himself Pride:

"Pride is not the opposite of shame, but its source. True humility is the only antidote to shame."

In fact, let's just have Uncle Iroh sit down with Solas over a nice game of Pai Sho.  Everything will be fine after that.

I still haven't decided what to do with clan Lavellan in my play through. First time through I thought I had the right order down, ended up getting destroyed. During Trespasser, Sera tells Lavellan that she's got a friend who may know where there are some survivors, but they haven't tracked anyone down yet. Really like the idea of Sera helping out there, so that just might be my canon.

For my character, I try not to do everything too perfectly as she's not really a good 'hero'. She's clever, but she makes some pretty huge oversights thanks to her ego. If I do stick with having lost clan Lavellan... it'll definitely be a huge point of guilt for her. And likely motivate her desire to protect modern elves, rather than get caught up in the potential for power that Solas's plans might offer.
