I think my Lavellan knows she can never go home.  She's seen too much, done too much, to ever really belong with her clan again.  She no longer has a sense of what's best for the clan.  So she basically gives her Keeper and family the complete truth, then lets the Keeper decide how much to tell everyone else.

It's rather sad, actually, because while she still loves her family and cares about her clan, I think she feels the loneliest when she's with them. Like the burden of truth placed upon her, and her history with Solas, keep her apart from them.

 

You remind me of Muse and their song "New Born"..

To be honest Muse got a lot of Solavallen-fitting songs, I just refuse to listen to that like that because I don't want to get sad (I try to avoid associating music with personal feelings since they'll get ruined :<)

 

I am amused part of the lyrics is

SOLAS is everywhere"

Also when he says "worth" and "earth" it sounds like "woof".

OT, and this might be my childhood catching up with me, but did anyone have their Inquisitor form a bond with their mounts? Also did anyone assign specific mounts to certain companions*? It was something I enjoyed in TME where Michel pays attention to his horse and seemed to have bonded with it (although I can't remember what happened to it now).

 

My girl bought every mount on that signpost, but she only ever stuck with the brown one Master Dennet gave her. I actually haven't named him. D: I should probably do that.

 

*If any of you say a Pride of Arlathan for Solas I'm allowed to throw pie at you. Just sayin'.

My first elf liked the Royal Six Hart, but didn't name him/her.

Yes...but not in that particular context. Solas doesn't have a high opinion of the Dalish, but that doesn't mean he can't be opposed to using them as agents (or tools!) in order to bring down the Veil. Just because he sneers at how little they have accomplished and how all the wrong stories are preserved doesn't make them less capable than city elves for...whatever tasks he has for them. You don't have to like something to use it to your benefit.

True, I meant he was a hypocrite for both of the things though

 

I'm not defending what he's doing, it's horrible, but I think he's not knowingly being a hypocrite. I think he's rationalizing it all in his head in some twisted way that makes everything he's doing OK.

Not that I'm not still p*ssed off about him building his spy network behind everyone's back. That really hit me hard.

 

On the schedule for today:

 

8 am: Scrambled eggs for breakfast. Recruit the cook as agent. 

9 am: Work on mural. Use exceptionally good hearing to overhear Leliana's conversations from two stories above. 

noon: Cake for lunch. Recruit the baker as agent. 

1 pm: Check up on the condition of the Inquisitor's mark. Recruit the Inq... OK, I might be going overboard with this. 

2 pm: Help heal the wounded in the courtyard. Then recruit them as agents. 

3 pm: Afternoon nap. Meet Wisdom, Honesty, and Thoughtfulness for a friendly chat.

5 pm: Boiled veggies for dinner. If I want to look as hunky at 5000 as I am now, I have to eat my vegetables. Read poetry and philosophy over dinner. Remember to recruit the librarian as agent. 

6 pm: Help Inquisitor and Cullen plan our next move against Corypheus. Should I recruit Cullen as an agent? Nah, once a templar, always a templar. 

9 pm: Off to bed! Go check on the sleeper cells and tell them to get ready.

I had a thought. You know when Cole says that the elves made a thing from the earth, it was afraid, but they made it forget? What if the "thing" was the first Varterral? Supposedly Dirthamen created one to guard a temple or city he particularly favored, and that once it has a task it will never die no matter how many times it's stuck down. The Varterrals were said to be made of trees, earth, and other forest bits. Orrr, from the very pieces of fallen Titans? Their "flesh" is stone and earth, and mined lyrium is a ready power source.

I think at this point I'm a little bit dissapointed with the whole story. I always, since DA:O wandered about the Elven Gods, Fen'Harel and what really happened. And I kind of hoped that he either had no choice or did the right thing when he locked the other gods. So in that I was right, I guess...I had hoped that he wouldn't end up a villain, a monster the Dalish believed him to be. In DA:I it turned out he's a fascinating character, caring, good, clever, sometimes even cute...and then...in DA:Tresspasser it turns out that he is perhaps even worse than all the Evanuris. That he's just as evil as Dalish have thought or even more. He supposedly cares about people he met during Inquisition, but in fact all the time, while talking with them, traveling together and fighting the bad guys, he planned to kill them anyway, all of them, including the Inquisitor (even romanced). And that's honestly sick.
 

Even if we can convince him to change his mind, now he will be always the guy who was ready to murder everyone and partially  thanks to Corypheus(!), began to have second thoughts. I mean, I don't want to hate on Solas, but I had hoped he would want to do something morally gray not just something plain evil.

 

I hate it that those who hated Solas so much even when they didn't know the truth about his plans, were right all along. I wanted him to be a misunderstood hero, who made some terrible mistakes, but still would never commit a genocide on a world-scale.

 

I think he's not going to do that andhat perhaps he's wrong to think that this is what would happen, but still he intends to do destroy the world and that is difficult to swallow.

I still think there's good in him, I know for a fact that he's hurting because of it. And I very much want the  Veil gone and Elves to restore their glory from the past. But if it is the only way, then it's not worth that. It's not worth destroying the soul of the one very brave, compassionate Elf, who led a rebellion against cruel mage-gods that enslaved their People. He could do so much better than this...

 

I'm bitter, conflicted and angry. I'll probably write something entirely different tomorrow. Don't mind me. I still love him to bits.

If Inquisition taught us anything, it's that the truth is a multi-faceted stone and stories record what one glimpse from one those facets looks like.

The stories of the Dalish about Fen'Harel have some truth to them, as the stories of his followers do, even if both tend to exaggerate. We know firsthand he can be be compassionate and cruel, even before Trespasser revelations. I'm sure in DA4 we'll keep learning things that will shake our understanding of Thedas history and its main players.

I was, at first, but then I thought about it and was actually surprised that no one had tried to betray you already.  It would have been a great way for Cory to trip you up.

 

The Inquisitor isn't the Illusive Man.  She doesn't have personal control over everything that happens.  The Inquisition is already too big for that by Skyhold, though the game doesn't do a great job of showing us the structure and extent of the organization.  She has to delegate to her advisors, who in turn delegate to others.  All the way from clicking Cullen's war table mission to protect caravans, down to the cook making your dinner from those supplies.

 

The Inner Circle is really just that--your inner circle of elites.  Beyond that, the Inquisitor has almost no meaningful in-game contact with the people in this huge organization.  Quizzy inspires a lot of hope and faith in people, but s/he's not perfect, and while I think it's hard for characters to personally betray Lavellan, it's easy for someone lower on the totem pole to betray the Inquisition as a whole.

If Mahariel hadn't refused magical aid to cleanse the shard of the taint, Merrill wouldn't have needed to resort to blood magic. If she hadn't refused to help Merrill research or repair the mirror after it was cleansed (and didn't poison every other elf against Merrill before she could approach or explain her position) she wouldn't have needed to struggle for years or feel she had to resort to asking th e spirit. And finally, IF MAHARIEL HADN'T LET THE DEMON POSSESS HER, SHE WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN POSSESSED. It's that simple.

 

 

Of course, if Merrill had been patient, hid the eluvian in a safe place and simply waited until Mahariel died so she could inherit her position as keeper, she could have fixed her magic mirror without much trouble.

Well, at least now she can squat Hawke's neighbours' gardens and steal their flowers.

Can I say that you actually remind me of one of my good friends from devinatArt?

 

She's a biologist, adores etymology (she has bugs and lizards of all sorts she keeps as pets and I remember one time when she enthusiastically she told me how she's found a black widow with some wasp eggs injected to it! She was so excited it was infectious, even if I myself stay away from bugs ) and she works in a lab, but we've had great fun creating written works and brainstorming together for a few years. In fact she helped me tighten my writing style to be more concise, yet give the same emotional punch as my long-winded paragraphs She's also writing her own books and stories - one of them was even published. IMO I think she's realllly good with words - better than many who claim to be 'full artsy'.

 

Anyway - I think it's a matter of balance, as well as the need to show the world that we're all very diverse - not all 'artsy' people are irrational, feelsy types, just like not all scientists are drab, dispassionate and overly-analytical. I really dislike the categories quite a few people try and put us in.

Writing is very important, and only increases in importance as scientists advance in their career. It can make all the difference between getting into a good grad school, getting published, getting a job, and finding money for your lab. Senior scientists basically read, write, and speak all the time.

The difference between Tal-Vashoth and qunari Bull went a long, long way toward making the character more interesting to me.  I give him the side-eye almost as often as Solas now in my Adaar playthrough.
