The "super story reasons" was basically for why only elves. Why only females? Well,because he's straight. When you decide the sexuality for you Inquisitor do you pick a reason why? I don't imagine most do. I imagine when the writers write a character it's pretty much the same. The character came out the way they are and that's they way they are.

 

I never did understand everyone's insistence that there be a "reason" for why Solas is straight.

 

But I'm not talking about fans insistence - I was talking about the existence of devs comments on it. There's a difference between the two. They could have said nothing or avoided the question and it would be perfectly fine - instead they've alluded that there is a "super story reason" for the romance be locked to elf female. Hence, I am curious/baffled what they could mean.

Super story reasons as in Ancient Elf that is so powerful he is God-like, sees the modern people of Thedas as akin to walking through a sea of Tranquil.  You're all not real people.  Explain to me how someone with that mindset is going to fall in love with a human, or a dwarf?  He has great respect for a Inquisitor that is his friend, that's not enough to see them as worthy of his love if they aren't also someone with pointy ears.  Lavellan is the closest thing he comes across that is anything like the people of his world, his time.

Dark ritual was different, though. As far as I know, nobody involved was planning to make a baby, then trigger a chain of events that result in the death of everyone, including the baby, or at least the baby's mom.

 

Idk, I feel like all elves are going to survive the veil collapsing, at least past the actual collapse, if not the chaos afterwords. 

 

If you think about it this way, it's not just the modern elves that are mortal, but the ancient ones as well. They are only being kept alive through uthenera. They are almost just as much cut-off from the fade as the modern elves, I think. The modern elves just don't understand what once was, and are even farther from what they "should" be. 

 

So, if Solas believes what he's doing is best for "his people," meaning the process probably won't kill them, why would the modern elves die as well?

Like if the kid lived through it because of Solas's genes or something, and when he's older he realizes that the reason he doesn't have a mom is because dad blew up the world and killed her. Or Solas's plan not only killing Lavellan but his own kid. "I had a kid once, but then had destroyed the world and he died."

Yes, that was exactly my point. I really don't want to see Solas doing that. He's on some weird trip, but he's not that cold and twisted.

Guys, guys....I know it's 2Am and totally off topic again but I think I just found the perfect solution for my Lavellan post-Trespasser!!!!!

 

In my worldstate......

 

................Zevran Arainai is alive and single.

 

Nothing bad can happen there right? Right?

Idk, I feel like all elves are going to survive the veil collapsing, at least past the actual collapse, if not the chaos afterwords.

 

I have a feeling what's going to kill everyone is not the veil collapsing, but whatever it is he needs to do to "restore his people". This way BioWare gets to collapse the veil (as they seem to want to, considering Sandal's and Flemeth's hints), but still prevent the destruction of the world.

Yeah, that's what I think would happen too. But in the context that the veil collapsing would actually harm people physically, I think it would be at least less severe for elves, given all the lore connecting them to being all spirity and magical.

No they didn't.  Chalk it up to me being an idiot and phrasing it wrong.  My fault.  I said female elf for super story reasons.  I should have left female out.  The elf is story reasons.  the female is because he's straight.

No, they said there were "super story reasons" as to why he was race-gated. If I recall when the questions where being tossed around they were asking why Cullen and Solas were race-gated, and they answered for Solas it was for "super story reasons". I think everyone just began to assume they meant "super story reasons" for the gender AND the race.

I think he was just clarifying that the romance was only available to female elves, though, and not female elf for story reasons. I could be wrong, but I don't see what story reasons there could be due to gender aside from babies, and since whether they had sex or not is strictly up to headcanon I don't see that coming into play.

I thought about that for a second.......but my Lavellan is a mage running around with a spirit arm thing now....she freed mages like crazy.....and I think my Lavellan is just done with grumpy. I was all like "No....she needs someone to cheer her up...someone who would actually make her laugh and live a little because shite is really about to hit the fan in Thedas."

Yes I replied to that after. Darrah only says elf only. He never says female elf only has super story reasons. Patrick then just makes a comment that Solas is for female elf only, he never says there are story reasons for that.

 

Everyone just kinda took the ball and ran with it and assumed it meant for both it seems.
