I think he was just clarifying that the romance was only available to female elves, though, and not female elf for story reasons. I could be wrong, but I don't see what story reasons there could be due to gender aside from babies, and since whether they had sex or not is strictly up to headcanon I don't see that coming into play.

Which is exactly why I was musing why they've made that comment in the first place. I can't see it coming into play, but then why would they insist that it makes SUPER story sense?

Anyway - can't say that Weekes insisting to clarify that it's specifically for female elves twice isn't still kinda suspicious for me, but at this point I don't think it matters much - the story is left open-ended and many details may yet change, even if they have most of the plot well planned out already.

question translation: What was Solas's relationship with Mythal? He speaks very fondly of her. Did he love her?

I'm not going to lie, I was thinking this too.

There are no limits to the drama that is Solas.

No limits.

I'm curious to know the nature of their relationship too, since it seems complicated and interesting.  And must have been meaningful if he sealed up the rest of the Evanuris over her murder.  Though whether it was romantic or not is not that important to me.

My guess is this is probably more alluding to the the speculation we seem to be having lately that he may have been her guardian at some point? That whole, she pulled him from the fade stuff? But who knows, I guess we'll see. *hopes for a book*

In the words of Abelas.....

It is meaningless. We endure.

I hope not. I didn't interpret it as romantic love, personally. Rather, I saw the love between close friends, perhaps with familial vibes. I would be creeped out by my own interpretation if it turned out they were lovers.

Besides, it would really sting if he was willing to destroy the world for lover Mythal and not preserve it for lover Lavellan

This is exactly what I think it is. Now, they could have had a romantic relationship, which would just be even more dramatic and heartbreaking, but the real question is how their stories and lives are tied into each other.

I can just hear our collective sobbing three years from now.

I thought about that for a second.......but my Lavellan is a mage running around with a spirit arm thing now....she freed mages like crazy.....and I think my Lavellan is just done with grumpy. I was all like "No....she needs someone to cheer her up...someone who would actually make her laugh and live a little because shite is really about to hit the fan in Thedas."

That's when Zevran dawned on me.

Yeah, Lavellan will need someone to keep her head above water and sadly none of the male elves but Zevran can offer that. Though  my Surana would be willing to have a 3 some with her. Lavellan needs a Varric or a Sigrun, two people who went through hell and are some how still cheerful. Maybe Scout Harding could be that, or Dagna. Lavellan will ditch all the single elves and go hang out with dwarves. Get into a drinking contest with Oghren. He'll show her how to deal with pain and remind her that she was lucky enough to have never married him.

I would honestly prefer it if Solas's relationship with Mythal was relatively drama-free, aside from what we know so far (punishing the Evanuris for her murder, taking her power to restore the ancient elves).

I'm worried about hitting the apathy point with all the dramaz in his story.

From the comments Solas makes in ToM (insisting that she was the Mother - protective and fierce) I think he might have viewed her more as a mother figure.

Or it might have been a relationship Leliana had with Justinia - Leli tells us that it wasn't romantic, yet their bond was 'something greater' than friendship.

Still - some codexes allude that ancient elves had complex relationships puny modern mortals can hardly understand, so it could be one of those things as well.

I'm totally okay if Solas and Mythal had a romantic relationship waaaay back when.  Exes are exes for a reason riiiiiight? :P lol

But yeah I am also really curious what it is that ties them together.  Is it just a strong friendship?  Is it something closer to a motherly thing?  Did he take her to a secluded spot on a romantic night out and then drop some ugly truths on her before saying "yeah sorry but uhhhhh I'm breaking up with you."? :D

Don't know why, but he sounds like he loved her indeed, but he's been friendzoned, and lately she's just using him.

Oh, come on. We can't possibly need more super story reason than Solas is Fen'Harel, the Dread Wolf, elven god-thing of ancient times who created the Veil, to understand why he might be elf only. I only ever took that as the reason behind them saying there were "super story" reasons. That he's interested in females only was probably tacked onto that announcement to clarify before people started asking which genders he romanced.

I feel for folks who wanted to romance him as a guy... but... at least we got to romance him at all. And what a ride that turned out to be.

Yes, I think if they didn't want to answer that question it's because they didn't wanna completely give away how Solas came to be yet? This makes me even more convinced that Mythal/Flemeth is just using Solas. If how they were involved with each other is gonna come into play at some point then we are bound to see her again. Which means she was using Solas to help get her revenge going, makes more sense as to why she let him have her power that way imo.

Same here, I think it was more of the Leliana - Justinia type.

Maybe those are the super story reasons for the romance being female-only? Lavellan reminds him of Mythal.

Please don't be this.

"I'm interested in you because you remind me of someone" is not a reason that would make a person happy.

Nope.  Sorry there's so much confusion going on partially because of my phrasing a few pages back.  The super story reasons apply to the elf part.  There's no reasons needed for him being straight.

Yeah.......I don't want there to be too much going on. It would just cheapen him as a character.

Can I also just say that I have been sitting here thinking about this whole Lavellan/Zevran thing and yes. It is perfect. It's totally cool for it to be casual and it totally works if Solas really does lose all marbles and there is zero hope for that relation-thing-ship.

And the best part is that Zevran would be sweet and charming about it the whole time.

I knew there was a good reason for my HoF to be with Alistair and not Zevran. Lavellan needs to write her a personal thank you letter. If we can get an address.

Oh yeah, but that one was not really about a "complex" relationship, it sounded like it was just lovemaking but the performance was above mortal standards.

Oghren's tips: How to cope when someone you love/married to runs away from you and leaves you to rot away in you're own drunken missury.

Step 1: Get booze. Strong booze. None of that prissy, fruity stuff. Strong enough that could knock you unconcious.

Step 2: Drink.

Step 3: Try to get people to go after her/him and get denied.

Step 4:Drink some more.

Step 5: Try step 3 again and get same result.

Step 6: Drink some more.

Step 7: Take the first person that angers you and lodge an ax into their skull.

Step 8: Drink again.

Step 9: Find someone else and then ruin the relationship by embarrassing them at their parent's funeral. Bonus points if you do this with no pants on.

Step 10: Drink again.

Step 11: Go on an adventure to save the world and kill your ex when you find out that they have become a raving monster.

Step 12: Fix relationship with other girl/guy, have a kid with them, and then dump them to join the Grey Wardens.

Note: (Don't forget to drink.)
