A lot of fans forget that for pro-mage endings it's the backing of the Inquisition enforcing the change. Without the Inquisition, or with an Inquisiton that's no longer a world power, the change isn't going to stick.
The Inquisition itself is pretty much stripped off any real power that they had in the end regardless, yeah. If you don't disband, then you simply serve directly under the Divine, as their personal guard. You aren't a military power anymore. Sure, you have more 'resources' (men) to spare if you keep the Inquisition intact, but that hardly grants you the benefits you had before sealing the breach. Even the Divine doesn't hold enough power to keep change from destroying itself yet again, that power (mostly) still belongs to the rulers of Ferelden and Orlais - and you are hardly in any position to challenge them. Even though you could, you would endanger the Divine along the way - which goes completely against the reason why the Inquisition still exists. You're pretty much nothing but a shiny name in the end. ![]()
What did I just read?
Well that's... interesting...
EDIT: Though I did like this person's answer.

I agree with this, especially with the knowledge of the gay KISA thread. There are quite a few men who want to be able to romance such a character with a man and have expressed their disappointment that the romance options available to them are often "shadier".
You know I've never even thought about that.
Zevran
Fenris
Anders
Dorian
The Iron Bull
They're all either the roguish type or the brooding angster. Both of the knight in shining armor types have been straight and the female x female relationships have a lot more variety.
Oh, if there's anything I love, it's challenging those stereotypes when I play the romances. That's why my second love is Josephine, whom I have paired with a lesbian human templar, who is her knight in shining armor. I've called her Josie's knight in shining armor multiple times on this thread.
As for Cullen and Solas, I think I get where you're coming from too. Their sexuality is what it is, independently of their other characteristics. Still, I see the stereotype woven in Cullen's romance, and would've loved to see bi Solas, but he's great as he is.
(Minus his plan to kill everyone and end the world.)
I should romance Josephine I plan on making her a male Adaar or Trevelyan... because I haven't played a male yet ^.^ I should give the guys' voice actors a chance.
True dat
You are so perfect Solas... well except the intended mass genocide that is. But other than that!
Still catching up with the thread. If these were posted before then apologies.
Art post time.

Vivienne and Dorian approve of Solas' new choice of clothing but still feel like it needs a bit of improvement

Someone brought this trailer back the other day, and it's like they wanted to put things in our faces again.
You know that really puts things into a different light.
Is that an official trailer though, because I don't think I've ever seen it?
Could just be me, but I will think this story is going in a very sick, twisted direction if Solas brings a child into this world, given what he plans to do.
Agreed. Keep that shite headcanon.
I can't draw to save my life, so...
Picture silver fox Zevran Arainai, twelve years after DA:O. Just starting to go silver at the temples, with a few laugh lines at the corners of his eyes and lips. Still full of Antivan attitude.
"Inquisitor Lavellan, I fancy beautiful things. I fancy strong things. So it is only natural that I should fancy you."
If Leliana can be completely untouched by time at...what 40? Then Zevran should look the pinnacle of youth too! Seriously, what is Leliana doing to herself? Some nug poo mixture?
I've had thoughts about this. Why wouldn't Solas be bi, other than because of resources? I think it's a shame he isn't. Maybe it's my own sexuality that's biasing me, but isn't he all about the spiritual (and spirits are genderless) and freedom and such?
Because people have a sexuality? Characters will often let the writer know what works best (my original Lavellan, for example, was intended to be a Seramancing lesbian. I had a whole backstory planned out and everything. Realised shortly after meeting Sera that none of this was going to work, and let the character guide to me what I was meant to be doing.) When you write sometimes things just click or they don't click.
And are all Spirits genderless? He describes Widsom as 'it' but also uses she and her pronouns, Cole seems comfortable as a he, as did Justice.
I think they just had the male VA record the lines. I think in an interview (the Nerd Appropriate one?) Patrick said he wrote it specifically for a female elf. Cullen was intended to be for sure, though.
Cullen was intended to be, but the writer found it wasn't working for the character (see my point above about characters leading the writers). That's why Cullen actually has proper dialouge recorded for reacting to the Inquisitor flirting while in a romance with Cass and Dorian.
I think for me it's just a grounding technique for writing. I look through images to see if I see something I might not have imagined or experienced.
Yeah, Weekes said it was written for female elves but it was also largely gated due to resources. We've seen the Adaar/Solas videos.
The Cullen one was then gated to just humans and elves for budget. He kind of got the Kaidan ME1 treatment. I don't think it's so bad to have some characters just be monosexual. People just have preferences and various orientations. Solas, however, I don't think it would've ultimately changed his character, which is why the mod doesn't bother me.
I keep seeing a lot of misinformation and that always ends up with fans calling the devs and writers lazy (and worse). Do you have a source on this?
This pretty much.
The "super story reasons" was basically for why only elves. Why only females? Well, because he's straight. When you decide the sexuality for your Inquisitor do you pick a reason why? I don't imagine most do. I imagine when the writers write a character it's pretty much the same. The character came out the way they are and that's they way they are.
I never did understand everyone's insistence that there be a "reason" for why Solas is straight.
^^^^^
Which my Lavellan probably grew a bunch of in the garden
Worst kept secret.
My Lavellan totally did.
For... potions.
And... stuff.

Guys, guys....I know it's 2Am and totally off topic again but I think I just found the perfect solution for my Lavellan post-Trespasser!!!!!
In my worldstate......
................Zevran Arainai is alive and single.
Nothing bad can happen there right? Right?
Right?!?!?!?!!

I'm out of likes but lilliumsnow's comics always make me smile.
Regarding earlier mentioned mounts, I do pair my Lavellan with a mount. I just... couldn't... help myself... Pride of Arlathan.
Because riding Solas whenever she wishes is something you can't pass on.
Plus, I do like the colours.

I think that was from the interview/panel/whatever where Laidlaw remarked that Patrick wrote the romance, dropped it on his desk, and was told something like we can make it work if we only do, say, female elves. And that's when Patrick said that's what he wrote it for. So it became thematically appropriate as well as not a drain on resources.

Did Weekes write it like that because that's Solas' sexuality, or was it because of resources?

Just to add to this. A lot of people often comment on how nice the kissing scenes look for Lavellan, and how intimate her and Solas appear to be. This is able to happen because the romance was programmed for only one gender- the animators are able to do whatever they want, because they don't need to factor in different heights and body shapes for the Inquisitor.
Any time two models touch=budget increases.

I don't think it's entirely clear but it was the NA interview where this generally comes from. That was the story he told, about going home, writing it over a weekend, and then Laidlaw saying that, and Weekes saying that's how he wrote it.
The problem is finding this actually transcribed without listening all over again is sometimes difficult.
I hope not. I didn't interpret it as romantic love, personally. Rather, I saw the love between close friends, perhaps with familial vibes. I would be creeped out by my own interpretation if it turned out they were lovers.
Besides, it would really sting if he was willing to destroy the world for lover Mythal and not preserve it for lover Lavellan
That would really sting!
What if Lavellan was killed by Mythal or one of the other members of the Pantheon?? Would that be enough to get him to turn against the idea of destroying the Veil and known world? My Lavellan would die for that.
Oghren's tips: How to cope when someone you love/married to runs away from you and leaves you to rot away in you're own drunken missury.
Step 1: Get booze. Strong booze. None of that prissy, fruity stuff. Strong enough that could knock you unconcious.
Step 2: Drink.
Step 3: Try to get people to go after her/him and get denied.
Step 4:Drink some more.
Step 5: Try step 3 again and get same result.
Step 6: Drink some more.
Step 7: Take the first person that angers you and lodge an ax into their skull.
Step 8: Drink again.
Step 9: Find someone else and then ruin the relationship by embarrassing them at their parent's funeral. Bonus points if you do this with no pants on.
Step 10: Drink again.
Step 11: Go on an adventure to save the world and kill your ex when you find out that they have become a raving monster.
Step 12: Fix relationship with other girl/guy, have a kid with them, and then dump them to join the Grey Wardens.
Note: (Don't forget to drink.)
OOOOGGGGGHHREEEEENNN I MISSUS YOU SO MUCH! Come one, wouldn't he and Solas be so hilarious together?
Solas: This, this is an ancient elven temple. My people came here long ago and worship--
Oghren: *Belches* Ah, been holding that one in for a special moment.
Solas: *Turns and glares* Child of the Stone you--
Sera: *Belches* Right, that was a good one, yeah?

Beware Sebastian, he will lead you astray
Given Sandal's prophecy, I think Solas will succeed. Or at least, he'll succeed at the Veil removal.
In any case, "accidentally make things way worse for elves" is a key part of every single one of his plans, due to his fantastic skills at planning plans. He is the best plans-maker in all of Thedas. No one will ever plan plans as planfully as he plans them.
In a way, it's comforting that he thinks his plan will destroy the world... he thought his previous plan would destroy Corypheus, after all.

Hard question to answer, because it's basically a 'what came first, the chicken or the egg?' Weekes wrote the romance over a weekend with the knowledge that it would only ever be able to be open to female Lavellan.
Thanks. I had seeing misinformation spread around like it's fact. I like to know the accurate facts.
On topic Solas: mod on the nexus that allows all the Trespasser schematics to be brought and makes Solas' armour playable (Solas only). Requires Trespasser, obviously.
If you think about this...for people who cannon Lavellan moving on, if she does it with an elf...they might just be reporting that crap back to Solas....
Zev and Fenris would sooner eat their own boots than report to Solas. They are also both single in my Lavellan's worldstate ![]()
Still, though. Shaking up with random sexy ancient elves is maybe not the best idea with Solas's agents running about ![]()
Did Weekes write it like that because that's Solas' sexuality, or was it because of resources?
I don't think that was ever directly answered. As taken in-game, Solas shows no interest in male elves but will romance a female one, so whether it was written with such a strict gate due to resources or not the choice was made for Solas to be solely interested in women. He could certainly be bi if people want to use a mod and think of him that way, but I expect that will be another thing left up in the air so people can be free to headcanon whatever they want. People just need to not go around demanding an answer from the devs and getting into fights about it. ![]()

Regarding mounts, I pair my Lavellan with the Hunter Shade dracolisk. It's not the elfiest nor the prettiest but I do like it. (What can I say, I'm a sucker for dragon-like creatures.)
Also, Kestrel wrote a little fanfic some time back with my Tala Lavellan and Solas with regards to Tala's choice of mount as part of of a trade with me.
It pretty much showcases my Lavellan's reasons for loving her dracolisk.
If anyone wishes to read it: http://kestrelsansje...98379/dracolisk
Is it okay if I use the Solas part of your sig?

I... dislike sexuality being left to headcanon. I've seen people use this to erase the sexuality of canonically bi characters due to 'well, if I played an m!Hawke, and didn't hear any of Bela's banters about women then she's straight' (yes, seriously. This exact argument. About Isa freaking bela).
Is it okay if I use the Solas part of your sig?
Which one? "Var lath vir suledin"? ![]()
EDIT: Now I'm wondering if I just asked a dumb question... ![]()
We've probably moved on beyond this but I'm one who wouldn't mind a child. Let me add some disclaimer to that statement. I also headcannon that they haven't slept together yet. In my headcannon of possibilities for where the series goes I want a child to be an option. Assuming that there is a way to redeem him and they can set the world straight. If the world's still going to hell in a hand basket I'm out.
On a side note I figured that had to do with being an elf more than being female too.
I for one was glad that unlike DA2 where everyone could be into anyone that they had gating in this one. It made the game seem more realistic to me. 100% glad that art is emulating life.
Well, here's my "they didn't do it" canon twin again!
I also prefer the gating as it's more realistic.
Yeah, when they said Solas was gender and race gated for "plot reasons" (now we know it may have been largely for time and budget reasons) I immediately thought about babies. I'm not usually keen on babies, but I think it fits this romance. Solas doesn't want to die alone. He's been the last of his kind for so long. The guy needs a family. My Lavellan's clan is dead, so she'd like a family too. She wouldn't mind popping out a couple elflings as long as Solas gets his act together. Of course if there are to be actual babies there will have to be actual "elven glory!", not just headcanon at some point.
As a side note, given the whole Solas and Mythal might have been an item thing maybe the fem elf only romance could have other plot tie ins. Perhaps Lavellan could become a vessel for Mythal instead of Morrigan. The whole "you two'd make a cute couple" line you could interrupt with while Morrigan and Solas were arguing at the Temple of Mythal originally made me wonder if something weird was being foreshadowed. It gave me a bad feeling even though I was completely unspoiled at the time. ![]()

You have a good point there. I'm in the line of why does it even matter, but I guess to some folks it does. People will headcanon he's bi if they want though. And then we're left with thinking, is it wrong to believe he is straight after he shows no interest in male elves but romances a female Lavellan? I'm going with what the game shows, but isn't that the same thing people are doing if they play male Hawke and don't hear Isabela talking about women?
I'm confused now. ![]()
