Okay, I get the gender is meaningless thing, but why they use she/her, daughter, mother and matron then? How can they not be female 0.0
Ah whatever, as a zipline instructor once said when he mistook a girl for a boy "Ah well, gender is a state of mind anyway" *shoves her off* (at a Christian camp no less!)
With the asari, the devs could've taken more of a chance to do something more interesting with gender, but the inspirations behind asari and having them coded as female presented humanoids, well those were tied together. So the use of terms like matriarch and using female pronouns is part of that, and it's just how they are. Though, I do personally like asari and their ways. They're a fascinating people. My canon and only LI was Liara, everything else feels wrong, and if I could have brought myself to romance anyone else it would have been Samara (You can share a loving moment and a kiss in Citadel, though I've only watched it. But it's lovely.).
Ok, so I'm trying to push myself into writing more, and I might start by reading to get ideas. If anyone here on this thread writes fanfic, would you mind sharing your AO3/FF profile? And do you have good motivating tips for writing?
Also:
Family sometimes, eh? Well, I'm glad we're here to help a bit. As far as writing, Sable's advice is solid. I tend to start with a feeling or one particular moment or situation and then write around it. Sometimes nothing will come, but just write. Occasionally your brain will produce mud but sometimes you'll get a few usable lines you can turn into something.
Write with your senses. Ground a story by giving us some idea of what your characters are sending - seeing, hearing, feeling, touching, smelling, tasting. Doesn't have to be everything at once. What's your setting like? Sometimes I look up images as writing references.
If you're troubled by dialogue or a sequence that won't come, skip it for now. I tend to write something, put [DIALOGUE] or [WORDS] as place markers and then continue with what I can write, then return to fill the blanks.
My AO3 is in my signature too. I should reorganize my stories a bit, but there are three main areas there: Solavellan, stories about my Lavellan (including her first love and one Lavellan/Dorian friendship fic), and I have a short epistolary series I started and have neglected far too long based on a relationship between Leliana and f!Cousland. I really need to add more to that one now that DAI is over
