He can be a big fan of Fen'Harel but still be fearful of him.  I'm sure he knew what he was capable of.

I agree. He was scared because as a friend and close underling of the Dread Wolf, he knew precisely what he is capable of, both in terms of power (Fadewalking) and in pursuit of his goals (ruthlessness when needed). Solas didn't defeat the Evanuris by knitting them sweaters, he destroyed an entire empire and manslaughtered like probably hundreds if not thousands as a result of his action, and that's just in his final act of making the Veil, never mind all the people he used in his fight against them.

Unless you, like me, prevented him from doing so. It passed.

Oh, totally stopped him, there will be no senseless murdering rampages on my watch. Only cold, calculated, strategic murder happens in my Inquisition.

I didn't think he did it for a few reasons. Felassan seemed afraid of whoever his master was but he also seemed like a big Fen'Harel fanboy. So it left the door open.

But once Cole said that, I kind of groaned, and then Solas confirmed it. It took me a little bit that night but then I realized it made perfect sense in light of everything, and to me, I take it as indicative of the Solas "before" he saw differently, before we proved him wrong with thoughtfulness and effort and perhaps love.

As a response to everyone, I meant it was obvious he killed Felassan *after* Cole's reveal. It was ambiguous before that, of course.

Yes, of course. But there was a chance it was someone else at that point. Maybe another one of those locked away who wanted revenge and Felassan, a fanboy, was afraid because he was defiant in getting the password and thus, giving that person a way out.

Solas greatly approves :P

He must have been so disappointed in my Lavellan.  All these opportunities for intrigue and calculated ruthlessness, and she used them to be a right little ray of sunshine

I think Trespasser did a good job setting up why someone like Felassan would feel devoted to Fen'harel, while at the same time having some caution about where his plans were taking them. Solas was their hero. He saved them from servitude under the evanuris. Things didn't turn out as they might have wanted- but I'm sure Felassan probably felt he owed Solas his life.

Which just goes to show how much Briala meant to him, for him to betray someone he held in such high esteem.

I also really like the irony it sets up for Solas. He kills his friend for threatening his plans and decides to handle things on his own. And within a year, has fallen into the same trap that Felassan did. Even worse if it's a romance. I wouldn't doubt this probably is part of the reason why Solas is just blindly charging forward. How can he change his mind if he killed his friend over this? That would make the death meaningless.

The killing of Felassan is an excellent insight into Solas' character and sets up his development in DA:I awesomely. It serves an important purpose.

I like to think of his relationship with my Lavellan as something out of House of Cards. They're lovers and friends, but they're both scheming bastards when necessary, and she has the complete opposite political views to his. I often imagine how after sex they discuss the war table missions while cuddling in bed and arguing over the best moves :D

Sunk losses fallacy, away!

But in all seriousness, I think you're right.  I think he's rushing with his plan because he fears he might lose his nerve.  And that means he'll make mistakes.  I wouldn't fancy our chances against a Solas who has all the time in the world to plan and plot; after all, if he really wanted to make his own life easier, he could just wait.  He can enter uthenera.  Quizzy can't (presumably s/he is still mortal).  He could literally let her make a fool of herself, outlive her and her friends, and go right back to his plan.

While plausible, I don't think it's entirety of story - it seems that time to actually change things is running out or there's some sort of event that's about to happen that will help him push his plan further (totally betting on some sort of significant celestial event - eclipse, conjunction, comet... well, something).

I don't even WANT it to have been Solas. Felassan was my bae. I don't want to think one of my DA:I favs did him over. But it's staring us right there in the face

No, like I said a little while ago, things do feel like they're coming to a head.  But he could just as easily have let quizzy die of the Anchor, or even killed quizzy himself.  And I think the old Solas, the one who murdered Felassan, might have done just that.  But he didn't.

Mine too, though not on purpose. She's thoughtful and examines possible solutions. That includes how to take advantage of situations, as well as how to be merciful. How that played out practically was in open-mindedness and sometimes mercy. I executed one prisoner, Erimond. And most others were recruits. I killed Florianne with her but unintentionally. So the box became my only prisoner.

It seems to me there's something going on that's making him rush. He was still weak when he woke up and had to resort to Cory. If he had time, why wouldn't he wait until he was much stronger? He has trust issues and has made mistakes before, so if he could, he would rather do the job himself. His awakening was before he had doubts and when he still didn't see everyone as real people, so the reason for the rush can't be that he's worried he might lose his nerve.

Definitely agree with this. There's no way to get around what Cole said. There's no other wolf.

Unless...unless Fenris killed Felassan... working his way up the best elf chain...!

That's why Solas left. He's been helping us fight the Qunari all this time. We have to save him!

That was seriously a facepalm-worthy line of reasoning. Like, I know you maybe a bit overcome by the pain in your hand, the pressure of the last couple of years, and whatever is currently going on... but seriously, girlfriend?

No wonder everyone disapproved. :P

Except Cole! <3  I trust Cole. Cole knows them both quite well.

I picked it the first time I played, and the companion reactions are funny, but it's so spectacularly dumb that I'll never take it again.  Especially if you'd already worked out in-game (via those codex entries) that Solas is Fen'Harel.

Cole gave me too much hope not to take that option another time, even if it already clicked that he's Fen'Harel. A lot of my hope is really helped so much by Cole.

It was a bit disappointing that this was the only available heart option, tbh. Can't Lavellan be in love with him and not be an idiot?

Where are those Codex entries? Or is it only available for Elf Inquisitors?
