Woooooow, no access to the thread for 2 days and I missed a huuuuge announcement...

I'm actually super psyched for MP. Me and my friends love MEMP, we go back to it all the time. We're actually pretty good, and when we actually play properly we can do gold  But I'm not gunna lie, I am a dick to play with :? I'm an awful awful pointswhore and kill-stealer, and it even drives my best friends mad, which is why we rarely ever play with strangers any more

So yeah, MP for me is a big awesome hype for me :D And knowing it doesn't affect SP is just a big ole bonus

Ah   :( I'm sure I'll find a fun team for Solas. Though him giving Bull a hard time might be great to hear. I don't play a fixed party though so it's not a big problem.

Not every conversation can be a philosophical one, right?  IB may still be fun to have around with him.  Sera probably will be too, even if they don't exactly get along (I suspect Sera is only not fun if you have Cole around).  Dorian and Solas may get along better without Vivienne around.  Maybe Varric will be less debate-y if the third person isn't Cassandra?

All this talk of who gets along with who and having to manage conflicting personalities makes it sound like it's going to be tricky to retain all your companions to the end of the game.

There was also a remark somewhere about how Josephine (the diplomacy advisor) is the 'least likely to cause trouble behind your back'. Does that mean that companions/advisors might take initiatives and we'll have to step in to clean up the mess? (that kinda reminds me of the property management missions in     GTA 5)

I don't think companions have problems with each other will impact on the Inquisitor keeping them on side until the end, unless it comes to a confrontation between them which you have to resolve in one person's favour.   Even then they'll probably stick with you but not be so friendly.   I think it is actual actions by the Inquisitor that could make them leave.  So, for example, massacring a village for no good reason.

Most of what the Devs were talking about is more on the lines of the bickering that we've become accustomed to.   Trying to wander around with Fenris, Anders and Merrill as your team was always something of a trial, particularly as there was never an option for you to tell the two guys to just shut up.     I suppose there may also be a confrontation that you might have to deal with at Skyhold, a bit on the lines of the Miranda/Jack one in ME2 but with that one there was an option of talking them both down without taking sides.   Let's face it sometimes a bit of aggro livens things up a bit.      Things might get out of hand if you are a weak leader; I don't mean you have to be aggressive but you can be firm so that people respect you.

I think there are sufficient companions that you can mix and match until you get a regular team out in the field that you enjoy being with.    Luckily I think Solas is one of those people who will speak his mind if the situation arises but doesn't go out of his way to pick a fight, so I think he will be easier to get along with for the majority than some others I can think of.

Da. Hell? If it's true, it's a disaster.

I only hope it's due to her "politician" nature and wasn't mean to be actually that. I mean, both Cullen and Leliana tend to use some sort of force dealing with problems, while Josephine uses more a power of persiansion, I think.

I'd take that one with a big heaping spoonful of salt. It was from TV Tropes. Where they got that info is a mystery.

I've been wondering that too.  With all the different priorities and personalities, along with the fact that there's no way to make up for any approval lost due to not bringing a particular companion for a particular mission, it may be outright impossible to keep everyone unless you play specifically to keep approval up rather than how you want.

The thought of this is both terrifying and hilarious.

Can we actually lose approval by not bringing certain companions along? Huh, that will require some planning.

By not completing their personal quests, yes. They can leave actually if you'll ignore them and their... hm, "needs".

Oh. I hope the time limit isn't too restrictive.

I don't think there will be. Just for some characters those quests might be related to main quests (something like Dorian's business with the Venatori and Alexius, for example) and for some it might be something like the side-quests (Varrick and Bianca, maybe?)

Or, if there's some story-related time limits,I guess they'll let us know.

I think I should have said "not gained" there.  Lost opportunities but not lost approval.

If we're locked out of conversations/personal quests without a certain level of approval though, managing all nine companions could get rough.

If DAI turns out to be one of those games where you need a game guide even for basic stuff... Oh well, wait and see.

I don't think it'll be that bad. After all, in DAO they pretty much told you themselves what they wanted (like Morrigan with her Grimoire) and where you can find it.

Yeah, I won't think we'll get anything on the level of Final Fantasy X's 'ultimate weapon' quests. Oy, those were... ugh!

Morrigan's Grimoire was unusual in that, short of not talking to her, you couldn't miss it.  She always brings it up during/after the Circle Tower.  Others you had to have a certain level of approval for.  For some of them conversation and making all the "right" choices during the conversation was enough but for some of them it wasn't.

We'll just have to see how the approval system works in DAI, I think.

Edit: Maybe unusual isn't the right word since Shale and Zevran's personal quests are both available after certain story points.  Leliana, Wynne, Sten, and Oghren need high enough approval to bring up theirs.

Yeah  the whole Fenris-Anders-Merrill is pain to have to deal with, thats never the option to tell em to stuff it. Kind of bugged me given how they kick her at lowest point in her act 3 quest and she speaks out against giving Fenris to his master. Even with Anders she argues that she feels he should make up for what he did. But Solas seems like He gonna be the team nice guy, He seems to be the type who could take a joke and turn the other cheek. But I am curious as How he and Dorian interact without vivienne around. Solas due his upbringing and education might even not take issue with Dorian and his necromancy.

Ah... Nope, that's not about him. He's not the type to openly sass people, but he won't allow them to talk sh*t about him and just get away with it. Devs said he can reply to others insults and he will. And that person who was making fun of him will realize hours later that he's been, in fact, insulted. Subtle sarcasm as it is.

Both Vivienne and Dorian will make fun of him because of his looks and also, because of his lack of a "proper education." it doesn't matter if they're both in the party or not. All three of them don't get along and have something to argue about.

Now I'm tempted to have an all mage party... Volleying insults to be followed by volleying spells!

I have a feeling Solas and Dorian will get along. Just not at first. I feel like they'll eventually come to respect each other - a bit like Aveline and Isabela. I think their hate turned friendship was one of my favorite bits of character interaction in DA2. I believe they did say the character relationships would develop over the course of the game, so characters that at first don't get along might later, which would be cool to see. I love character dynamics that change. I might not have minded Anders and Fenris so much if it didn't feel like they were having the exact same argument for seven years.

My 'canon' DAO playthrough involved a mage that I decided would immediately dislike Alistair on principle. I had them clash at every opportunity, but slowly worked his approval up by making 'good' decisions in the game. I was about two thirds of the way through the game before the romance even started. It was fantastic.

I used to play with fixed parties but don't any more. I'll have one or two 'staples' I'll bring along everywhere (my LI for example) but like to switch things up otherwise. Fortunately I love to explore, and with so much world to discover I feel like we'll have plenty of opportunity to rotate everyone out.

the good old days in DAO, where you could begin a romance when you wish and a the pace you prefer. (a part from Leliana, that ninjamance every female elf I make... that's a serious fetish, Leli!)
I usually wait quite a lot to start a romance, if I can. and is even more cute when the LI came to speak about it, meybe after triggering the romance with a little, subtle flirt.
It helped with the immersion, and having less the sensation of "being the only one working to have a relationship". That was really the only big thing that bugged me in DAO with Alistair. the sensation is that he is ok in "doing something" for the realtionship only if is dump you if he became king... at least, I had many time this feeling.

Just like real life, not all the companions are going to get along neither will they approve of every single action you do. I would like to see a gradual change from a first impression where one doesn't like another and, after a time, their opinions change. It would also be cool to see different sides of people when certain others are around. There are people who change their personality slightly when certain people come around.

It seems that Cass will be the type to respectfully disagree with Solas whereas some might be firmer in their ideals (Cullen/Vivienne).

People who might get along with Solas:

Cass

Varric

Cole (they probably have a better understanding of one another than most)

Josephine (Being a diplomat means that she would do her best to be civil)

People who might not get along with Solas:

Iron Bull (Solas won't like the way Qun runs things)

Vivienne (She feels he's not a proper mage)

Cullen (Has had issues in the past with mages and not being in the circle won't help)

Not sure if they will get along with Solas:

Leliana (She seemed to be angry at mages in that demo)

Dorian (He seems a bit more neutral at first glance but we haven't heard much on his opinions. Though I lean more towards getting along because he is fighting the Tevinter's direction so he might relate)

Sera (Seems the type to blurt out and not mince words but don't know if she has a thing against mages or not)

Blackwall ('cause we know virtually nothing about him)

I personally won't shy away from putting two opposites in a group because I love to hear what they say to one another. This pairing was one of my favorites.

Also, I can't wait to hear Varric tease him. I hope there's a comment about him wearing pajamas into battle.

You can hear some of his dialogue better in this one:

The three lines we've picked out are: "It must have been a terrible illness, no one's come to reclaim the land.  No one living, at any rate."  "Interesting how widely Fereldan beliefs diverge." "They're endless!  We should head to the castle."

Someone put the audio up for the first two on tumblr:
