Mordin. One of his lines are "Had to be me. Someone else might have gotten it wrong."
And he says that maybe when they're done saving the Universe he'll retire on a beach somewhere. Shepard tells him he'll go insane inside 5 minutes. So he says maybe he'll analyze seashells. One of my favorite moments in Mass Effect 3.
Solas is so much like Mordin that I just want to lay down and cry.
Solas and Solus. Ironic overload.

Oh, thanks! Haven't played ME but I've heard him compared to this Mordin often on the thread.
Yeah every time you said that line that's what I thought of. Thanks for the opportunity ![]()
Mordin is more like Dagna IMO. Solas is maybe like... Javik??

Also, to clarify my own position on Solas/Mythal (since I spoke in opposition to it):
I'm not against the idea of characters having emotionally significant others - not at all. However, I'd be upset with Solas/Mythal specifically because it would likely imply much of his good work freeing slaves and fighting the corrupt Evanuris was driven by vengence and passion for his dead lover, rather than being primarily about justice for the elven people. It makes political principle about one dead lover.
Let me guess: things didn't work out very well for Mordin?
I bet Cassandra is the most reluctant Solavellan shipper in the world.
On the one hand, she sees the immediate practicality in stopping Solas immediately, with a very big sword if possible.
On the other hand, she is mildly disgusted with herself for finding the present situation - Lavellan and Solas, star-crossed lovers who won't let the immanent end of the world vanquish their love for each other - amazingly romantic.
Oh, Cassandra, never change
Cassandra is so awesome! *.*

But Varric better not try to write a book with our romance as "inspiration"
My Lavellan would murder him.
"As the night illuminated her soft pale skin he gently ran a finger down her cheek.
'The veil is thin here, can you feel it on your skin, tingly?'
'Yes,' Lavhena replied, breathless. She leaned closer to Sorel, her face a mask of desire. He--"
"What the hell are you reading to them Varric???"
"Inquisitor! I was just indulging The Seeker with a sneak peak of my latest novel, Dread Wolf Take Me, although it's a working title! I didn't expect to draw such a crowd."
*Dorian, Iron Bull, and Sera slink away*
"I am going to kill you!"
"I am only a humble writer in the service of my fans... and one particular fan was very vocal about her desire for this novel."

Thanks.
Solas had been planned since DAO, but was not a romance. Since becoming one, it's changed things and fans have spoken, so I doubt PW would keep a redeem option (in a good way) if it wasn't possible.
Thanks.
That I can understand. Even with Mythal alive(ish?) after the evanuris, it would be a little "stuffed in the fridge"-y if she was his love interest. I don't get romantic vibes from them, though, so I doubt there was anything between them beyond friendship.
I disagree. Mythal was not significant because Solas loved her, if we found out that was the case. It doesn't work with stuffed in the fridge at all (especially think I doubt she's fully gone anyways) because she doesn't exist just to serve as a catalyst of Solas' character development. Flemythal has been important much longer than Solas has. It would just be an interesting aspect to their relationship with each other. Mythal and Solas both are much, much more interesting than how they relate to each other.
In any case, if there was a Mythal and Solas thing, I picture it more as one sided from Solas to Mythal. And maybe more of a deep admiration, the kind that can be confused with love sometimes.

Solas already says that Mythal factored heavily into moving him to action. Considering how dedicated he seems to have been to his people, him having feelings for Mythal wouldn't imply to me that he was more driven by passion for his dead lover. Just partially, which was already the case with Mythal. No cheapening in my book. Him having his motivation be a mix of selfish anger and desire for revenge and true care and compassion for the people he helps fits Solas perfectly.

Wasn't there a fanart somewhere - of the cover for that exact book?![]()
Ugh I know. In a lot of ways he's already gone too far. I still can't help hoping that he's salvageable beyond any blatantly tragic means.
We all know that the possibility of our Lavellans and him setting down in a nice hut with a picket fence is completely gone. We also know that anything remotely similar to a nice, normal, happy ending is gone. All that's left seems to be pretty tragic. I just want the best ending for him possible, literally and figuratively.
Me too. I want him to be redeemable, and not necessarily through death. If killing him is an option though, by the end of the game, they'd have to find a way for a redeemed Solas to be effectively written out.
There's no way the Dread Wolf can just go wandering around Thedas unchecked - maybe if he were depowered or imprisoned or put under a geas that keeps him on a short leash (anything but tranquility, might as well kill him). I don't know, but I would like a maybe not "happy" but more a "not awful" ending for Solas and Lavellan - or for anyone who values his life.
Right click image > Copy Image > paste into chatbox. But if you're looking for the URL of the image: right click image > Properties or View Image Info > the URL at Location is the thing you copy.
Hope this helps!
Thanks, for replying, but I think I wasn't clear enough when I asked for help ![]()
If the image is saved to my pictures it won't let me just copy and paste to this.

I see the only safe way to end all madness is all magic being removed forever.

There's actually a queue forming for that. It's bring your own weaponry.
Must we resort to this again?

Rest of the post though - yes. There are just so many layers and he has been handled so well that one character evoking so many different feelings....at once....is something special.
And in BioWare's evil 'let him be a romance option' evil cackling ways they made it even more tragic, but also more hopeful, and stronger.
I see the only safe way to end all madness is all magic being removed forever.
I don't see the story going that way though. One of the things that makes Dragon Age kind of different is that the world is already depowered and broken, because the magic that is intrinsic to the world is cut off. I think it's the story of the magic all coming back, not the rest of it going away.
