Didn't they say that when they were making Solas they couldn't find hair for him that still had him look like he was wise so they decided to just have him be bald?

Yup, basically. They were also going to give him hair for Trespasser but couldn't find anything good enough.

I have some happy prompts sitting in my inbox like "sunshine" but I literally don't know what to do with them LOL I'm so terrible at writing

No no no, that one's easy. The pale, cold sunshine that casts no warmth in the depth of winter, offering you the memory of a dream hidden in lies.

So, anybody going to tell Mr. Weekes that Solas hijacked his Twitter account?

It's like he's promoting Solas's crazy. Like he thinks Solas is right for wanting to improve the world.

he confuses me so much sometimes =3=

It actually reminded me of Hawke, always trying to change things regardless of how many fails they've previously had.

There's nothing wrong with trying to change things. Sitting back and letting things be because you're afraid to rock the boat or make things worst isn't good either. But, Solas isn't viewing things like that. He wants change that he knows will hurt people because he thinks it will be better than the alternative.

It isn't like he's trying to fix something and there's a chance he might just make it worst. He's trying to destroy something to try again.

Really? You can't leave it off like that, explain!

Googling your name gave me pictures of flies.

LOL, yes, Drosophila melanogaster are fruit flies. Of all the animals, they are the ones most used for genetics. Basically, we can do just about anything with fly genes ... make the flies grow legs on their heads and stuff like that.

Their brain is suprisingly similar to the human brain. So I make this fly mutants that have a brain disease that affects many people. Then I do a bunch of experiments with them to learn why this disease happens. (We don't know the whole picture yet.)

That's the theory. In practice, I take a bunch of flies and dissect out their brains... Under a microscope, so it seems like you're looking at a gigantic fly. And since I have a phobia of insects, I shudder every time they move one of their legs.

Sorry to ramble about my stuff... Just read all the above in Solas voice :D :P

Well yeah these scenarios don't completely pertain to Solas. It's just funny because it sounds like things Solas would say over and over again in his head at this point in Dragon Age.

Lol.

@FrankWisdom I'm not very good at theory crafting, but I think you made some good points, especially about Solas's relationship to Mythal. One of the things that got me was that Solas had spent time in court before, if he was such an outcast with all the rest of the Evanuris and was doing things like setting their slaves free/providing them refuge why would he have been invited to any high class gatherings? But if he was going with Mythaaal...

Yeah I added pics to kind of emphasize what I was saying you can go back and check it out if you want.their all spoiler tagged but I think it kind of illustrates my point more efficiently.

So PW is tweeting about time travel stories right now.

https://twitter.com/...463420410667008

https://twitter.com/...464170515824640

Hrmmmmmm, interesting!

" 'Gracefully accept things as they are rather than risk screwing up trying to make the world better," is a bad message sent in bad faith.' "

I agree, although I find it ironic considering BioWare's usual stance on revolutions and rebellions, and the direction Solas' plan seems to be going.

Any time characters try to make lasting changes in Thedas, they're depicted as "well-intentioned extremists" at best (Solas), terrorists at worst (Anders), but always characters who just make things worse by trying to change the status quo instead of accepting it, and there's always some accompanying message that "yesterday's oppressed will just become tomorrow's oppressors if you put them in charge." (Example: Southern Thedas was enslaved by Tevinter, Andraste freed them, then they formed the Chantry and went around conquering and converting, and oppressing mages and elves, in her name.)

I'd like to think the series will take a slightly new direction with Weekes in charge, but still...

Ironically, I also work with insects.

I have a phobia of insects (and arachnids) and your username always amuses me.

a cultural thing I think.

Ghilan'nain is described as having white hair in codexes so they weren't naturally bald, I think. I mean if you live forever, hair can be kinda annoying. Also, if you're bald, it could resemble your lack of care for the aesthetics of the physical and your deeper spiritual connection, sort of like monks.

Yup, basically. They were also going to give him hair for Trespasser but couldn't find anything good enough.

So he's just shaving his head constantly

Represents lack of vanity...Falon'Din causes countless deaths so more people worship him *coughs*

Ah, here BioWare is, tearing down my elven stereotypes.

Dragon Age Origins: Elves are tall! ...why are all y'all so short?

Dragon Age 2: Elves are beautiful and graceful... AHHH!! Back, back away from me demon with Zevran's voice!! Merrill I know you never need to cut yourself since you're tripping all over the place.

Dragon Age Inquisition: Elves have long, flowing hair... who's the baldy?

So this tweet by Feels Overlord Weeks:- https://twitter.com/...63158342205440

Does this mean Dragon Age IV: Flashpoint Paradox ?

Solas = Barry Allen. Mythal = Nora Allen. Female Lavellan = Iris West ?

So we play as Solas in DAIV where he fixes things and finds the world even worse that is actually was before ? So he has to enter the Speed Force Fade Force, defeat his older self and put this right ? Maybe during that time we meet Flashpoint Batman Flashpoint Cassandra who helps him ?

As long as you are not trying to restore the world when insects like flies and roaches were giants that ruled the Earth, I'm sure we are all fine with it.

Hair looks weird on his model to me (going off mods). I think it's because it emphasizes that his eyes don't seem quite far enough from the top of his head.

I've also grown to love the bald him. I don't want those early days haters to win.

Oh, the thing is that if it's anything else than a fly, even if it's a fly but I'm not at work, I just scream when I see it before I even have time to think.

Edit: Top Solas. Do the shemlen seem like flies to you? Image from Solas-an.

I'm fairly certain that's in regards to something not Solas related.  I just jumped on it because a couple of us have been hypothesizing that Solas' actual end game goal is to do time magic when he takes down the Veil and do like a reset.  It's just an idea like all of the others, not attached to it.  But yeah seeing PW tweet about time travel and I was like Oh ho ho!  Liz needs to see this.

I hope that's not the case though, often times, time travel, especially if executed poorly tends to turn great stories into cliches, hot messes, or a clusterfuck of plotholes. When it's applied in inquisition, they don't delve into the specifics or "rules" of their time-travel magic nor do they rely on it. This way they don't create plot holes or use it as a crutch that dedramatizes specific events that happened or will happen to our characters or in the narrative as a whole.

If they use it as a driving force for the story however that might change. I trust the writing team so far though, so I'll reserve judgement until I play through the next installment.

That's so awesome! And kind of weird too!! I love learning about things like that, but hate doing it myself (if that makes any sense) ironically, I should be working on Biology as we speak.

Here's a question for all of you. Do worlds with magic hamper science's growth? If you think about it, almost all (all?) the scientific researchers we've encountered in DA have been studying magic. Of course there are things like astrariums, but where are the actual telescopes? The healer in Skyhold talked about leaching bad humors if I'm not mistaken.

Nah, I wouldn't take everything Weekes said either too literally or relating to DA in any significant way...

Though it MAY suggest that we wont' be getting an option of "preserve Thedas as it is" (or it will be sort of a bad option...), if other DA devs share the attitude.

Not that I disagree, both generally or in case of Thedas - this world appears to be in desperate need of change, even if not necessarily as drastic as some want it.

I don't like time travel either.  I think his plan might involve trying to go back in time, I don't think he'll be successful.  In this case I think he'll succeed in removing the Veil, I don't expect to stop him on that front.  But I think the protagonist will stop him from the rest of the plan which is using the time magic similar to Alexius'.  I don't put a lot of stock in it.  I just see it as yet another possibility is all.

Yeah, the hair mods look terrible. I don't like concept Solas either. Like, concept is concept for a reason and the final decision was made to fit the character. And it's pretty perfect.

I don't really like bald, though it worked as in real life. If someone that gets my interest is bald, it just works.

I think hairstyle for him can be pulled off, even with his eyes set as high in his skull as they are - simply put, the hairline above the forehead has to be high enough to make the face look proportionate.

Still, I'm just used to him being baldie, even if I myself like guys with lots of hair (longhaired, mmmmmmmm). He's the elvhen equivalent of Tibetan/Buddhist monk, which is even more strongly underlined with the way he wears fur over the shoulder :D
