That's so awesome! And kind of weird too!! I love learning about things like that, but hate doing it myself (if that makes any sense) ironically, I should be working on Biology as we speak.
That makes a lot of sense. Doing the research is sooo different than learning.
Here's a question for all of you. Do worlds with magic hamper science's growth? If you think about it, almost all (all?) the scientific researchers we've encountered in DA have been studying magic. Of course there are things like astrariums, but where are the actual telescopes? The healer in Skyhold talked about leaching bad humors if I'm not mistaken.
But magic is science. It's one type of science in this world with it's own laws and researchers.
I don't think magic is hampering progress, because:
1) One field doesn't really hamper another. Like, are biologists hampering physics right now? Nope, the physicists jsut work on their thing while we work on ours. There are so many non-mages in Thedas who could do research if they want to.
2) There has been some scientific progress in Thedas in non-magical fields. Like gaatlock, for example. I think what's hampering them are the constant wars and threats to the world, much more than magic.
The ancient elves are a special case, in the sense that they were SO dependent on the Fade and magic. But saying that magic hampered them is kind of like claiming we are hampered by the Internet. It has greatly accelerated progress, but if someone shuts it down entirely tomorrow, we'll be taking a major step back.
