lol, yeah, Lavellan wouldn't let a drunk ass have her back. Good point. I'll just head cannon that he cut himself off before he got too drunk but he felt good enough to act a bit more carefree at the ball.

 

Oh, he was totally intoxicated in my mind -- but from watching Lavellan play the entire Orlesian court like her own personal puppet, tugging their strings and tying them up within it. That's a level of finesse and power he had to have appreciated, and when it also happens to be done by someone you've shared a few kisses with, well. It was going to happen.

I don't really see it that way. In fact, as much as I want to see him either drop or change his plan, I don't think I want him to sacrifice everything for the woman he loves. That's just... selfish. 

 

For all we know, he does what he tries for the betterment of his people, who he feels he either wronged (even if his initial plan of putting the Veil up has saved them all from whatever Evanuris were doing) or there's no other way of saving them.

 

So it can't just be all Lavellan > "his people"/everything else.

 

It's a bit more complicated than that, even if their love eventually may play an important role in him changing his plans, or whatever they have in store for him on a road for possible redemption. But it can't be all there is, just like there can't be all there is to death of Mythal and him acting against Evanuris to avenge her, rather than because he thought it was right, and carried the burden of doing the dirty work.

 

In any case - if he sacrificed everything for Lavellan... I don't think mine would want it. Or could live with it.

I largely agree with this, I wouldn't want Solas to put Lavellan over what he feels his duty is... but wouldn't he want to save her at least? This has been the one thing I haven't been able to understand about his plans.

 

I mean, I can theorise all I like about his motivations for ending this world, because that's all that is, theory - I've never been in that situation, and I can't even begin to imagine how that would feel. But loving someone, we all know about that. Wouldn't he have plans for saving his love from death? But we clearly get the implication that he expects her to die when he brings down the Veil. I get that he can be ruthless, but this seems like flippancy, which is very jarring to me.

But also going by what he said, there's only death on his path. It's possible he doesn't expect to survive, himself.

I've seen a lot of people trash Solas to praise Abelas and I think a lot of people in this thread tend to get a little defensive.

 

Honestly I think if Abelas is in DA4 he's far more likely to be on Solas' team than our team.  I can't see Mr You Are Not My People siding with the shems.

Yeah, I'm with Illyria on this one in characters that are around for five minutes don't really work like that for me. Headcanons are headcanons, and personal and people can imagine all sorts of things, so I get it. Yet, while I think what we learned about and know of Ameridan can give feels, especially as a parallel if you're Lavellan who loves Solas,as well as erasure of his elven identity and related matters. Characters like this add flavor and they can sure make the most out of their time present (both Ameridan and Abelas had some key lines that add to the whole), it's harder to get anything but the briefest snapshot to work with and connect with. That isn't to say characters that are only briefly around don't offer us opportunities to connect with them. I just think more is probably needed for these sorts of situations, but that's just personal.

Its not pro Abelas. Its anti Solas.

If you like Solas, some people consider you a sorry little obsessed fan. People make fun of Solas because they know it'll irritate certain people. Anything to make someone feel and look stupid. It give them a superior, cool-kid feeling.

Thats fine by me. I know I'm a cool, confidant woman, and I don't need a bunch of people on the internet to validate me. I can love Solas and also other characters and talk about both without getting my panties stuck up my *******. And if someone makes fun of me, or Solas, so what. Sometimes it's true, sometimes it's funny. The rest of it means nothing.

People should stop taking everything so goddamn seriously.
