Hmm, I am pretty sure we can't redeem him without giving him an alternative because there appears to be lot of ancient elves or spirits that became messed up (archivist) after the veil was formed. I don't think he can be at peace knowing that they still need him.

What if instead of tearing down the Veil altogether, we could find some way to reconnect the Crossroads to the Fade?

Morrigan says that the Crossroads isn't the Fade, but it's close.   A sort of in-between world.  So instead of having three realms (Fade, Crossroads, physical world) all separated from one another, we'd have two (Fade+Crossroads, physical world).  That would at least restore some of the ancient spirits currently trapped in the Crossroads, and it might create an environment in which the ancient elves could be as they once were.

Solas is older, more powerful, and immensely more knowledgeable.  That doesn't mean he has better judgment.

But I don't think we're going to redeem him just by having a nice chat.  First, he needs to be at a point where he'll even consider listening to reason; he clearly wasn't quite there as of Trespasser.  And I think that means we'll have to challenge him.  We will have to fight against his agents, stymie his plans, and (probably) cause him pain before he'll even hear out an alternative.

This is for sure and it can't be as easy as it was with Corphyeus because Solas is much smarter and he understands his former companions. He's not at the Reaper level of power, but it seems that it's pretty unrealistic to be able to stop his plans without him changing his mind on his own.

Yas, I spied you posting FotC but held my identity back from you. I'm as bad as the Dread Wolf :P.

That's a pretty good idea actually. I wouldn't be surprised if that's what Bioware went for. Solas is very knowledgeable, but he can also be quite narrow-minded and may not have considered this possibility.

Just speculating, but I don't think talking him down or reasoning with him will be what stops him. It'll probably be what redeems him. But he already knows what he's doing is wrong, so conscience alone probably won't stop him. My guess is Solas is going to blunder into another disaster and realize, perhaps too late, that he's made another mistake. Something is going to intercede.

As for what? No idea, but at this point its pretty much choose your poison. We have so many powers at work in DA, many of which who could potentially benefit from the veil being down.

Jumping on the "Share My Inquisitor" bandwagon before it's gone. :D

(Just uploaded the game, picked the first conversation with the best lighting that I could think of, and clicked "prt sc" away.)

Chiara Lavellan, Keeper's First eventually turned Knight-Enchanter. (Generally uses Storm and Winter magic, as well as "Fade Step" and "Fade Cloak" magic.)

He might not have considered it because he wants Elvhenan back exactly as it was.  Across Thedas.  He might not be willing to compromise unless we convince him or stop him.

The Veil isn't the same from place to place; it has local properties, sometimes really unique ones.  I'm sure that the guy who created the damn thing knows how to use it beyond pushing an on-off button :P

I like how you've dragged in both genetics and feels in just a few short lines. ^_^

But I also figure my Lavellan's purple eyes came from somewhere, and it's not too common, so she shares them with her father, while her mother and siblings have green.

Good to know. Yeah, I love coming up with little things like that which make them more alive.

I'm not really sure how "dominant traits" and stuff works with elves - I mean, it's been said by the devs (even lately on PWs twitter) that elves don't really work in terms of genetics - it's all magic of some sort.

This is also why there are no half-elves - only elf-blooded humans or dwarves, which is more of a legal status rather than anything else.

Yeah, I've heard that as the canon point of view. It's fairly vague and it bugged my biology-obsessed mind to leave it that way, so I headcanoned that the "elfyness" is all magic, but physical characteristics are still inherited the usual way.

I think the biggest unintended obstacle to his plan is that he somehow accidentally reawakens the Titans during one of the steps of bringing the veil down. The awakening of the Titans might threatened the existence of both the fade and the real world. That would be pretty hilarious and Solas would realize the consequences of making unilateral decisions.

So I headcanoned that her hair used to be long, but got hacked off shortly before leaving for the Conclave. I headcanon though that it still appears long when she dreams in the Fade, because that's how she pictures herself.

Similar reasoning with my girl! Had very long red hair that she was quite vain about. But after running aground with her keeper for the thousandth time, she was asked to cut it and go help out in spying on the conclave. Which she could agree on a pragmatic level, but also knew she was being punished.

That's a great idea! I made a similar theory a few days ago, but no one commented on that.  :(

Solas mentions being able to "reshape reality" with the Fade, so I thought what if he simply reshaped the Crossroads with the Fade, or shaped a new reality beyond the Veil with the Fade, so there will be a new realm where elves can live connected to the Fade without destroying this world for other races to make room for Elvhenan 2.

Then again, I didn't think about simply reconnecting the Crossroads to the Fade to restore all the wonders that crumbled when severed from the Fade. I think that would be an ideal compromise.  :)

I'm late to the Lavellan sharing party!  i am so bad for always making really young looking, smooth skinned, pretty characters.  I try to go with making a more natural and realistic character.  But it never happens, lol.  Even my Adaars.

Inky's greatest advantage is that Solas doesn't want to hurt her so instead of sending people to kill you, he will instead try different ways to trap you until his mission is completed. I am imagining that we will be trying to break out of places for a few of the quests. Coryfish was way too passive of an enemy. I don't think Solas would make the same mistake.

Sorry, I didn't see your post!  This thread is too damn fast.

I don't think Crossroads+Fade is going to be perfect either.  At the very least, bringing down the Veil inside the Crossroads would probably wreak havoc on the eluvian network.  Blight can corrupt an eluvian; I don't think raw chaotic magic will be very good for them either.  But maybe since the Crossroads are closer to the Fade, the difference between having the Veil and not having the Veil wouldn't be as cataclysmic?  I dunno.

And I once installed a mod in Skyrim so I could literally be the prettiest princess.  I don't remember what mod it was, but it only applied to the PC.  Everyone else still looked like potato-heads :D  I'm too lazy IRL to bother most of the time, but video games definitely bring out my vanity.

I agree, I think something big needs to happen to make him question his path. I'm seriously hoping it's not another blunder, though, perhaps it can be a crisis point or some kind of major revelation that will make him stop and reconsider.

I don't know if it's bad luck or what, but the female characters I want to romance are always heterosexual (Morrigan, Miranda Lawson, Cass).  Alas  :P

Someone after my own heart. Replace Miranda with Jack and Tali, and you have my exact list of straight women I've always wanted to romance. As self-centred as this is, I think I would be a much, much, much bigger fan of Morrigan if she were more gay :P

Good ol' video game characters. It figures that the best ones for us can't be romanced. Bethany, the best female character in DA2 just had to be the protagonist sister, and then Aveline, and Varric, and Leliana (in Inquisition that is, it's just that her character arc is so much better then in Origins). Wanna bet the best characters in DA4 won't be romancable either?
