Good ol' video game characters. It figures that the best ones for us can't be romanced. Bethany, the best female character in DA2 just had to be the protagonist sister, and then Aveline, and Varric, and Leliana (in Inquisition that is, it's just that her character arc is so much better then in Origins). Wanna bet the best characters in DA4 won't be romancable either?

Awww, don't say that. Cause if June shows up I have to romance him.

And June would be best, we all know it.

So, now that I've finished Trespasser... is the blanket fort still up?  :(

It was an amazing DLC, one of the best in the Dragon Age series IMHO. All the feels, and all the lore! But damn it Solas, really? I'm glad we got the option to either try to talk him out of it or kill him, it satisfies both those who feel that he is just misguided and those who feel betrayed by him. The whole scene was so beautifully crafted, and the voice acting was heartrending.

I've spent the last few days just thinking about what kind of character he is and what it is he truly wants to achieve. Despite the lore dump I still have the feeling we are missing a lot of vital pieces of information. I like the theories about Solas and the other ancient Elves being spirit somehow given form, but there are still some obvious kinks to work out. The whole "burning her off his face"... I know many thinks it's a reference to Mythal, but I am not so certain - for all we know it could also be Andruil or Sylaise (although it is interesting that the statues of wolves guarding the altar of Mythal do wear vallaslin). I just find it strange that she would refer to him as an old friend if he used to (is?) her slave.

I wonder why the Evanuris killed Mythal. Solas implies that it was simply greed, but I'm not convinced the answer is that simple. Did Mythal have plans of her own that the other "gods" felt was a threat?

There is also one other thing that is really bugging me. Do we know whose vallaslin Felassan is wearing in The Masked Empire? I know someone tweeted Weekes, who only answered that it was a spoiler. The things is, if Felassan was an agent of Fen'Harel why would he wear his vallaslin? Solas obviously detests them, and it would be really strange for him to remove the vallaslin of other slaves but not his own. But if it wasn't Fen'Harel's, then whose vallaslin did Felassan wear and why would it be considered a spoiler? Ugh, perhaps I'm overthinking this way to much, but if someone with twitter feels the urge to ask Weekes if it's still a spoiler then I would be very happy!  ^_^

I'm glad this thread exists (although it moves way to fast for me to read every post)! Hopefully, if we all keep giving the devs the puppy eyes they will give us a satisfying closure to our solavellans in DA4.  :)

yeah definitely a lot of things we don't know. One that that keeps jumping out at me is that Solas is afraid to tell Lavellan exactly why he cannot save the ancient elves without destroying the world. I think whatever information he is hiding is the key to stopping him.

I think it would be hysterical if Felessan had June's vallaslin and what was really going on with that whole scenario is June is straight up MacGyvering his way out of the Fade. He just started to lose a little patience cause he can't quite get the lock on the Eluvian in the Black City.

Assuming the Evanuris are in the Black City.

Cause I kinda think they are.

Also, I'm pretty sure Solas blanket forts are eternal.

I imagine Felassan's vallaslin might have been fabricated just to maneuver around the Dalish. I remember Brialia describes it as 'appearing to move'. Which could mean nothing, or it could also mean that over their various meetings, Felassan has changed the spell effect slightly over time.

As far as Mythal's murder goes- hard to say. But Solas says that the evanuris were going to destroy the world, and Mythal was always the one to intercede when the gods went too far. So perhaps she tried to intercede once more, and this time she was not able to stop them.

I'm not really sure how "dominant traits" and stuff works with elves - I mean, it's been said by the devs (even lately on PWs twitter) that elves don't really work in terms of genetics - it's all magic of some sort.

This is also why there are no half-elves - only elf-blooded humans or dwarves, which is more of a legal status rather than anything else.

Well, if elves are really actually just sprits that became physical beings, or descended from them, then I would think that it makes sense that when they breed with (I guess you could say) a "more physical" being then that offspring would naturally take the physical shape of the "more physical" parent.

At least it makes sense to me.

It's also possible that Felassan was a mole for Solas back in the days of his rebellion.  If he removed the vallaslin and he was a former slave, it would have been really obvious who he was working for.  And when Solas woke up in the modern world, Felassan kept the vallaslin so he could blend in with the Dalish.

They'd be like the reverse of Asari. In Mass Effect eventually the whole galaxy could be full of Asari. In Dragon Age eventually all the elves will be gone unless they segregate themselves.

Although, I wonder if it's possible to reconnect the modern elves with their spirituality if that was their origins. This may also be a way for Lavellan to gain massive amounts of power.

I thought about this as well, but then why not just say so? Why would it be considered a spoiler? Or did they think we would immediately realize that he had to be an agent of Solas if he possibly lacked vallaslin? Yeah, I'm definitely overthinking this way to much... I still have a hard time accepting that Solas would just kill him like that. Not cool Solas, not cool at all!

Similar reasoning with my girl! Had very long red hair that she was quite vain about. But after running aground with her keeper for the thousandth time, she was asked to cut it and go help out in spying on the conclave. Which she could agree on a pragmatic level, but also knew she was being punished.

Aw, that... sad.

Mine didn't lose hers over any symoblic reason. It was just a backfired fire spell.  :P

(The game starts mages with Flashfire and Chain Lightning to matter what, even though I'd headcanoned that my girl started off with Spirit and Winter magic, so I headcanoned that her Keeper already specialized in that kind of magic and pressured her to learn fire and lightning spells to create spell diversity in the Clan. Very shortly before the Conclave my girl was practicing a more complex fire spell in case she'd need it there, but it literally blew up in her face and singed her hair off.)

ohh what was your theory?

Oh, well... that was it.

Solas mentions being able to "reshape reality" with the magic of the Fade, but he makes it sound like the Veil has to come down from this world, and he can only reshape the elves' world with this world as the foundation. I wondered, what it he simply went beyond the Veil instead of tearing it down, and used his "reshape reality" powers to create a new "third dimension" hybrid physical/spirit world for the elves to go to, so the physical world and the Fade can be left alone, and Solas can create a new homeworld for elves (where their connection to the Fade can be restored and their magic-related wonders can be moved to and revived) without destroying this world as a baseline?

It's like the equivalent of "I was going to destroy your house to build my own over the rubble, but now I'll go build my house on the next hill over."

Then use the eluvians to connect the physical world to this new hybride Fade/physical world, and send an underground elven slave organization that goes around informing elves of their new homeworld that they can go to if they want to see Elvhenan restored, or have their own homeland, or something.

Sorry, I didn't see your post!  This thread is too damn fast.

I don't think Crossroads+Fade is going to be perfect either.  At the very least, bringing down the Veil inside the Crossroads would probably wreak havoc on the eluvian network.  Blight can corrupt an eluvian; I don't think raw chaotic magic will be very good for them either.  But maybe since the Crossroads are closer to the Fade, the difference between having the Veil and not having the Veil wouldn't be as cataclysmic?  I dunno.

Yeah, pretty much. There doesn't seem to be a perfect answer, although I think it would cause less death and destruction, since the Crossroads don't seem to be as widely inhabited as the physical world, and what few Fade spirits and magic-related wonders that remain could only be rejuvenated from being restored to the Fade, not devastated by it.

The eluvians would be a terrible thing to give up, though.

I definitely think this is true! And, gives a plausible reason why elves can't hybridize with other races. What we know as "elf" is a trait built from magic. So even if elves are no longer spirits in the modern era, they still can't pass on this 'artificial' trait with mortal blood.

With all the political and cultural views on elves, and the response to 'elf-blooded' people, on multiple sides of the equation, as well as among elves of various backgrounds, at least it makes for good conflict and story fuel for canon and headcanon alike. Sera is a great example too since she has a very complex relationship to elven culture but then also suffered because of racial attitudes and deception. She's on the other end of it but that conflict does affect her in ways.

I do wish there were some way Alistair could've found out about Fiona.

I accidentally posted a post too early and when I finished writing it the thread advanced two pages >_>

So here:

I'm still 99% convinced that the Veil will go down no matter what, whether by Solas, or by some other person.

In my eyes Solas doesn't need to do anything to big to redeem himself (like throw himself to the pit of whatever so a green light would wash over everybody and make them spirit hybrids capable of understanding spirits and demons), putting on the Veil was a mistake that cost a lot of peoples lives and the lose of a culture, but we can't really know how dire was the situation, perhaps the Evanuris were a step away from destroying the world.

I imagine it could go several ways:

Irredeemable Solas:

1. Low approval Solas, Inquisitor pledged to track him and kill him.

2. Solas removes the Veil without hesitation.

3. Perhaps chaos indeed ensues, most live through it, Thedosians are, as Felassan says, stronger than they look.

4. Devastated Solas realizes he cannot rebuild the elves, since they are vastly outnumbered and now they made enemies with what is left of Thedas.

5. Solas is killed for his crimes.

Redeemable Solas:

1. High approval Solas, Inquisitor pledged either.

2. Solas' lack of conviction makes him slip, allowing Inquisitor & Co. to realize the repercussions of removing the Veil.

2.1. We find a way to remove the Veil safely OR we find a way to prepare for the removal of the Veil.

3. Solas is perhaps approached with said ideas, we [don't] manage to get through and cooperate with him.

4. Veil is removed safely OR we set a goal to operate an organization that will help deal with the issues caused from the removal of the Veil OR Solas decides in some miraculous manner that the world is worth keeping as it is, Mythal or perhaps an Evanuri that breached their "cell" removes the Veil.

5. Solas is judged as players please. A redeemed Solas helps the effort of stabilizing Thedas after the removal of the Veil.

I personally tend to believe Solas won't back out too easily from removing the Veil, I don't think he is capable of seeing the current world as beautiful as what was (and I kinda understand him). If I had to guess how Inquisitor/new PC could kill Solas I would bet on a side-effect from the sundering of the Veil.

Also, a mix could work, Inquisitor & Co learn of the repercussions and prepare themselves regardless of Solas.

Of course this all could be nonsense, I can't know the plot for the next game, nevertheless, I am still (almost) certain the Veil will come down, too many prophecies foreshadow that (Sandal, Flemeth, Eleni, Canticle of Exaltions [Prophecy]), it would be silly if nothing would change...

Plus, it's a chance to create the most beautiful animated CG in gaming history XD

And I once installed a mod in Skyrim so I could literally be the prettiest princess.  I don't remember what mod it was, but it only applied to the PC.  Everyone else still looked like potato-heads :D  I'm too lazy IRL to bother most of the time, but video games definitely bring out my vanity.

I'm totally not opposed to making pretty PCs. I stole my Lavellan's name partly from my super beautiful Altmer sorcerer in Elder Scrolls Online that I made specifically to be pretty and burn things. Except they're totally different.

In real life, it depends what I'm doing and my mood. But today will be a day where I wear a dress, green eyeliner and pink lip gloss and do a definite pretty princess thing. But my Lavellan didn't get that dark lipstick from nowhere. I was wearing that color a lot last fall.
