You can be patronizing and still be reasonable. I think most of his patronizing remarks, like the comments to Quizzy about his race, are unintentional. When he wants to be patronizing, lol, you'll know it. Just ask Iron Bull.

Considering what we saw in Trespasser, I don't blame Solas at all for feeling the way he does about Bull. Besides, Solas kind of stops being aggressive towards Bull if he becomes Tal-Vasoth.

Yep, I was always rooting for the Inquisitor to get to continue his/her journey.  I'm just hoping that they're still going to be important in the next game.  And implemented better than Hawke was.  Some folks are thinking we might get dual-protags so Inky can still get to deal with Solas.  I think it would be cool, but I don't know if BioWare would do it.  CDPR handled it well in The Witcher 3 with Ciri and Geralt.  Although Ciri wasn't exactly a protagonist.  But it was fun getting to play as her for her story segments.

Don't even get me started on the greatness that is Witcher 3, lol.. But yea, that would be sweet indeed. I'm rather disappointed, I thought the mark would be the key to stopping Solas' plans, or helping them along. Thought the Quizzy would be central to Solas' later story. Would be rather sad to see all that swept away in favor of another character. Who I have no idea how they're to stop him anyway with how powerful he is. Quizzy was already rather op.

I must say that Solas' armor in trespasser is amazing. I guess he doesn't actually LIKE looking like a hobo. He just wanted to be inconspicuous.

Naaah, I had a feeling he likes fancy stuff ever since I saw a pattern on the metal parts of more advanced schematics for his base armor - and then there's a very fancy (if a bit worn down) coat he wears as alternate armor that just oozes "I'm not a hobo!"

Neither do I, nor did I during the main game. No love for the Qun whatsoever in my corner. Or its real life counterparts.

Also, does anyone know how long Solas knew that the Anchor would eventually kill you? I think someone mentioned awhile back that he'll tell a low approval Inquisitor that only he could of bore it without it killing him, but I can't find a video.

If he knew that the Mark was a death sentence from the beginning it makes everything he did with Lavellan all the more sad. What was else was he thinking during the Crestwood scene? I understand that he didn't want to "betray" himself by giving up everything for Lavellan, but he left her knowing she was dying, without saying anything .

you can find by googling "Solas trespasser low approval ending" :)
Edit: http://vespidaequeen...s-that-option-i

Yeah there he says "Ultimately none but I could have borne the mark and survived". But to me it sounds like either he was hoping that was not the case, or he was trying to see what the mark would do on someone else but ultimately the truth is that it would kill you anyway.

It might be something like how he can make Cole forget certain things.  Maybe he does like a spirit mind wipe on his way out to cover his tracks?

So he makes the forget who he is, but not that he was there? Not really sure I buy it.

He doesn't look like a hobo but I'm not sure how I feel about the wolf pelts and kneefaces

I HATE the knee faces and try to avoid looking at them. They creep me out and I imagine them down there snarking away at the romance scene. Makes me want to push Solas down so I can face plant those things!

Yeah, not only he greatly approves saving the Chargers (even IF alliance with the Qun is more coldly pragmatic), but it's like he sees Bull in new light. He openly says "Hey, both Inquisition, Inquisitor and I am here for you!"

... Which, coming from Solas, is a huge declaration.

Solas and the Iron Bull do clash, but I didn't notice any mocking or sense of superiority. Every criticism was done in a fully serious tone.

I don't think him calling Varric Master Tethras was rude... it's his actual title and Solas never sounded sarcastic when he said it.

I know, but in that context it just sounded like sarcastic praise.

Well, my Lavellan didn't know that at the time.

I don't care how informed they are. Most of them choose to become Templars knowing that their primary role is to be the anti-magic police who, despite possibly having other duties and jobs, still can be called upon at any moment to hunt down, kill, imprison, and/or guard locked up mages. And most of them choose that line of work knowing what their primary function is.

And since Templars can only be humans, they have more options to get on in Andrastian society than mages or elves. "Hm... do I want to join the city guard, the army, the Chantry as a lay brother/sister or cleric or scholar...?"

*snip*
With Templars, I personally have less sympathy. "Oh, you picked a job that you knew involved slipping a leash on people that you know hurts them, and now you've found out that you have a leash that hurts you? Fancy that."

I'm sorry, but I will never feel nearly as sorry for the Templars as mages.

Not that much choice, I think, not all of them anyway.  By Alistair's testimony, many Templars are given to the Chantry and raised into the role from childhood, fed stories of becoming righteous defenders of the people and the faith no doubt.  I doubt many of them fully understand the consequences of taking lyrium until they're hooked.  I certainly doubt the Chantry advertises the side effects.

Going by Cullen's account, many join out of a desire to protect people.  Because that's what mages are to the majority of Thedas, dangerous and terrifying beings.  No doubt there are those that join because they want to oppress others, but it'd be a mistake to paint them all with that brush.

Yeah, Hawke's cameo was kind of disappointing, I think they could of done a lot more her/him. I would of loved a point where we were separated and we had to take control of Hawke, Stroud/Alistair/Loghain, and one companion, and then switched to taking control of the Inquisitor and two companions. I would definitely love to take control of the Inquisitor again. I haven't played TW3 but they had something along those lines in Origins with the battle of Denerim.

Honestly though, with her hand cut off, I really really doubt we'll get to play as our Inquisitor again.

Well they know that someone had to wake the librarians, right?  They retain that knowledge, but can't remember who did it.  That's my best guess anyways.  I am sure smarter people than me can come up with more plausible explanations.

I love the wolf pelts! Makes him look really boss.

The whole outfit is perfect. Solas is properly dressed as an elven god now.

Patronizing someone can easily be done seriously with no humorous tone or with superiority overtones whatsoever. In fact, the best kind is as dry as scattered bones and as cold as space. That comment he gave Iron Bull about expecting nothing more from a drone... dayum, Iron Bull's burn was worse than what Solas gave those pansy ass Kirkwall mages.

Perhaps that's another reason he's so upset when the orb breaks. Without it, not only can he not carry out his plans but he lacks the strength to remove the anchor from the inquisitor. (At least until he absorbs Mythal, anyway, by which point it's too late to go back.)

Yeah they've also made it a lot more personal for the players.  There's a new protagonist each game in DA so we're more than likely dealing with Solas with someone new.  But it's different going after an adversary that you spent an entire game with them as one of your companions.  I am really looking forward to how it will play out in the next game.

I think they are actually going to break the tradition this time considering the last cut scene. There's no point in hyping up the inquisitor more if they're not going to use the character.

Hmm, well I don't know which conversation you're talking about specifically. For the most part Solas has always spoken to Varric very respectfully, although I agree that the Child of the Stone thing was a bit aholish, though I doubt Solas even realizes that it can be offensive calling some dwarves that.

On the Bull note, I definitely think Solas has snarked him real good in a few conversations regarding the Qun XD the same way he did Dorian about slavery.

I really, truly, and sincerely hope so.  DAI was ambitious.  If money and time were unlimited resources I am sure Hawke would have been done better.  They've already adapted Frostbyte to work for their needs, so I am fairly sure they will have more time to get it right in the next game.  If Inquisitor ends up as an advisor or commander like Leliana or Cullen in the next game I am cool with that.  But I know to temper my expectations.  I try not to get too attached to an idea because it's less of a let down if it doesn't come to pass.  They've got some great momentum going and I just hope they continue to roll with it.

That was my problem with ME3.  So I'm trying to tone it down too.

His conversations with Viv are priceless for Grade A, Gives-Zero-F***s Dread Wolf Snark ™.  Anyone other than Viv would be cautious of that side of Solas, but Viv just snarks right back.

Ah, I totally missed the 'show your Lavellan' thing going on a few pages back. I really want to ask a few questions, though:

What is the first thing that you think about the moment you look at your Lavellan?
What stands out about her the most, in terms of appearance?

If you could change one thing about her, what would it be?

What is the first thing that you think about the moment you look at your Lavellan?

Bright and serene, just as I wanted her to be. I planned her look and name the moment Inquisition was first announced and I'm glad that I was able to make her the way I imagined. Her name, Sol, means Sun and I wanted that name reflected in her look. Blonde, wavy hair (well, as much as the hair options allowed it), Fiery, yellow eyes with a hint of red, some freckles and red lips. I actually smile every time I see her.

What stands out about her the most, in terms of appearance?

To me - her eyes. They're strange, I imagine that some people might feel a little bit uneasy because of the intensity of her gaze.

If you could change one thing about her, what would it be?

Um, hair I think. There's actually a mod with wavy hair, but I'm unable to use it, since Inquisition barely runs on my computer. Maybe I would make her a bit shorter if that was an option. She was supposed to be a petite woman. But I think she's ok the way she is. What annoys me is that I sometimes play on another computer and she looks much worse on ultra-settings, not exactly the way I want her to look.

Screenshots of her, with and without vallaslin - I prefer her look with vallaslin, but removing it fits her character, so I have to live with that:

Spoiler

Uh, these screenshots are huge, I don't know how to use internet properly, apparently.

And since this isn't exactly on-topic, but I had to share her, since I like her too much (I spent total of 330 hours playing as her -2 playthroughs and I'm thinking about another)...

... I have to say, ever since Tresspasser came out I can hardly keep up with this thread, so many awesome theories, lore discussions and all the feels all over the place. I find it impossible to stay away from this forum and it's a little difficult to find time for everything. I came back from work and caught up with the thread after 2 hours of reading. Stop writing so many awesome posts! :P

Also, more on topic, seeing all these wonderful Lavellans, I'm surprised how Solas could walk away from them. He must really have an impossibly strong willpower. ;)

Guys, important question - how do you name your Lavellans? I'm making a super aggressive Sera-mancing Lavellan (giving up on my Trev mage, she's just too boring), but I'm struggling to think up a good name for her.

Vivienne deserves it. As for Sera, I thought he seemed actually kind to her.

The worst he did was trying to scare her with the idea that she could be a late bloomer mage, but it didn't sound mean spirited.

Solas is a fairly reasonable person, really. The closest thing I remember to him being an actual jerk is when he calls Varric "Master Tethras" or "Child if the Stone". That kinda rubs me the wrong way.

oh god, "child of the stone" rubs me up the wrong way too, bleh bleh bleh. Solas doesn't understand dwarves at all and it makes his banters with Varric really painful.

I actually love Sera and Solas' dialogue. You get a sense of how very similar and very different they are at the same time. I always got the impression he's trying to reach out to her but just completely failing to do it well at all, rather than being actively patronising.

Seriously, I imagine everyone in Skyhold must think he's insane - he's being offered every incarnation of a fascinating personality and unique beauty and desirability, yet he turns away to go destroy the world. :P  At least we know he wants us to save him from himself.

Having a bit of a thought.  Well more like a 'What if?'.

So what if the Evanuris are blighted?  Either through tampering with things they shouldn't have, doing nasty evil **** to gain more power, or creating it.  I am curious what the blight would be like in a pre-Veil world.  Maybe it's even more dangerous.  I'm not sure how Mythal's murder factors in, but it's probably related somehow.  Flemythal is the one that came up with the Dark Ritual right?  Maybe she was going to cleanse them and they killed her?  That also could be why Solas gets really upset at the idea of killing the Old Gods.  Hrmmm.  I'm not sure what the correlation is with the Old Gods and the Evanuris.  This whole thing is probably a wrong line of thinking because as far as we know the Old Gods and the Evanuris are totally not the same thing.  OH WAIT.  The Old Gods could be (I always get it mixed up) the Forgotten or is it Forbidden? Ones.  Where was I going with this?  Right so Solas locked the Evanuris away but the blight got out anyways, because of the Magisters.  Maybe part of what Flemythal wants is to free them to cleanse them.  Yeah I don't know if I think any of this is plausible but it kind of popped into my head.   Sorry, carry on, lol.

I steal from other fiction :)

If you want an elfy name, there is a name generator specifically for Dragon Age elves.  You can also mine the wiki or Project Elvhen for ideas.  If you don't care about elfy-ness, start going through your favorite fiction and see if anything jumps out at you.

Delicious, decadent snark. I always thought of the way Viv banters with Solas as one of her most redeemable qualities in my eyes.
