This has probably been pointed out so many times but the Dread Wolf self portrait really reminds me of Flemythal and what she says to Hawke. "We stand upon the precipice of change. The world fears the inevitable plummet into the abyss. Watch for that moment... and when it comes, do not hesitate to leap. It is only when you fall that you learn whether you can fly." another reason to believe that the veil is coming down. Like it or not.

And adding to the conversation about Solas new digs in Trespasser. I think he looks sexy, the face-knees are...distracting. But  other than that he looks badass imo. His body language is done really well to. He looks commanding, sort of intimidating and assured. Until Lavellan sads or yells at him. Then its tiny fluffy wolf cub Solas.  Good. <3

I've never doubted that the veil was coming down since I heard sandal creep about it in DA:2. Dialogue like that could not be random. Good point though, and just adds more to the probability that the veil is going down no matter what any future protagonist does.

What really scares me though is that Solas has been planned since the beginning. That Hobo that everybody thought was fugly as hell from the previews was actually a mastermind heartbreaker in disguise. all that dalish stuff in both games was all leading to him. He's like the climax character of the series. It's terrifying how easily Bioware could shock everyone, and how easily I became obsessed before I even knew who he was.

Seriously, Bioware is evil, and they want to see us all suffer  =3= (probably)

I wish Solas had shown up in his outfit from his romanced tarot card. Not as flashy as gold armor and knee faces, but still very regal looking!

hS0ZGGs.png

Solas probably just doesn't find super powerful magic to be godly. He knows he's not a god, and he knows the Evanuris aren't gods, but they're all still super powerful. I imagine his perspective is kind of skewed. He can do these things because he has the magic to do so, not because he's godly. The abstract idea of "playing god" seems to be lost on him in his desperation to restore what he destroyed.

I'm sure this has been discussed to death, but has it been confirmed that his tarot card represents the heirophant? I read a very good analysis that states that his card has more in common with the elements of the fool. (fool is not being used in a derogatory manner in the tarot reading)

This picture reminds about peacocks. They use their feathers to intimidate, so multiple eyes in Dread Wolf pictures could also have similar meaning.

Yes, I'm reminded of peacocks as well. While I was playing the game, I couldn't help but get the impression that the artists may have been looking at images of things that scare people for inspiration and ran into fear of clustered holes or trypophobia. It's not a disorder that's made it into the DSM or anything but many people claim to have it. When the giant spider monster showed up in the fade, elements of its design reminded me of the lotus pod pictures that people with trypohobia really hate. Here's an example (don't look if you hate clustered holes):

Spoiler

People that claim to have this disorder sometimes don't like peacock feathers as well. So,perhaps the portion of the image that resembles peacock feathers is also supposed to inspire fear or disgust in the viewer. If that's the case, it's ominous as the peacock feather looking things are surrounding what looks like something 'good'. Perhaps it's the golden city surrounded by the blight or something.

Guys, important question - how do you name your Lavellans? I'm making a super aggressive Sera-mancing Lavellan (giving up on my Trev mage, she's just too boring), but I'm struggling to think up a good name for her.

*snip*

Thought I'd answer this well.

For me, I generally look at elven name generators or baby name sites and check their meaning. Or sometimes I pick names from deities from our real world mythology. Or I'd even name them after characters from books, movies, or video games that I like.

My Lavellan was named after Tala, Filipino goddess of the stars (or to be more specific, the morning and evening star). Which is funny because it turns out that apparently, Tala is also a Native American name meaning "wolf". And considering who she romanced and that a non-mage Lavellan's card shows a wolf instead of a stag, this all worked out well. xD

I was a bit stumped on naming my male Lavellan so I decided to name him Riel after one of the areas in the Exalted Plains. :P

Million pages late, but he is cold as ice to Dorian when discussing slavery.

Solas: If you wish to make amends for past transgressions, free the slaves of all races who live in Tevinter today.

Dorian: I... don't know that I can do that.

Solas: Then how sorry are you?

Dayyyyyyum. Boy was just trying to apologise, bruh.

(Not that I don't totally get it, but on my first playthrough I was just like '...well ****')

 He's so sh*t at talking to people. He did rebel and create the veil to stop slavery. So best mage Dorian just isnt doing enough according to him. Non-people are so lazy lol. I like the banter you get in Iron Bulls loyalty mission.  Gatt asks about if solas is from the chantry. "No <_<.." "have I done something to offend you?" " <_< you joined the qun" he just cant help himself, he's always offended. Shows his teeth to anyone who annoys him.

Usually cant stand preachy people but I sort of find him a hilarious old man sometimes.

which? o-o  never heard about this

It's one of the Fen'Harel anchor activated ones.  It's propaganda from the Creators saying to avoid the guy who comes to them looking like a wandering hobo and just focus on serving their gods.

That "fool" interpretation sounds very plausible in consideration of his character. he's so "wise" he's foolish. Like how pride causes you to only see what you think is true, and not see what actually is. The whole "know-it-all" concept. I would not be surprised if that was true. "The Prideful Fool." heh, interesting ;)

As to it being confirmed, it's more like it's just the title of the tarot card. Each card has a name, I think, and that's his for the romanced version. The name implies the meaning of the card.

I remember, a long time ago we discussed his romance card, it does look almost exactly like The Fool, but I like The Fool.. at the end of his journey he becomes the hero.

You must've seen it, since you need to use the anchor on all those mural/door thingies to progress through the DLC.

The story of the tarot is about The Fool's journey to enlightenment, gamewise you'd expect that to be the protagonist.. but, it's Sera.

Yeah Im terrified/excited about what Bioware have planned. Its not going to be sunshine and butterflies (when is it ever?). I have absolutely no idea what they will do with solas. Hes not going to get off easy though, that much we all know. BioWare are beautiful monsters lol.

And how can people say he's ugly?  Look at that adorable elfy nose, just begging to be booped. But yep I saw all the Nic Cage/Nosferatu comments.

Its a good thing that he's been planned from the start. Means they know where they are going with him. Dont know what that means for poor Lavellan though, since that was not. Im really invested in this story. Im worried but I still dont want them to let him off the hook. Like Mythal controlling him.

Winged it. Teluvyn sounded Elven. Found out later if I replaced the y with an e it seems to make sense (literally "not alone go", so 'never goes alone'?)

Actually that codex entry is in Shattered Library behind one of the purple flame walls.

The Treachery of the Wolf

The pages of this book-memory?-warn of a terrible danger, a wolf with slavering black jaws and pits for eyes. The Evanuris-the elven gods-stand in a ring around it, as if preventing it from attacking.

"Beware the forms of Fen'Harel! The Dread Wolf comes in humble guises, a wanderer who knows much of the People and their spirits. He will offer advice that seems fair, but turns slowly to poison. Remember the price of treason, and keep in your heart the mercy of your gods."

I guess it's the round shapes close together?  I don't really know as those images don't bother me. Apparently, people are really grossed out by images like that. Here's some more:

I know everybody hates me saying this, but I really think he's going to die, and if any option is available to us in which he doesn't, there will probably be dire consequences, and Lavellan will probably be pulled into it, if she chooses to still be with him.

what I can imagine:

*impending elf doom (veil collapses), Solas's millennia of betrayal and manipulation finally rears its ugly face to bite him in the ass*

*if Lavellan redeemed him and convinced him of the wrongness of his ways, joins him in his doom Romeo and Juliet style*

*Solas and Lavellan's spirits are forever one, roaming the world together for new wisdom, even after death*

*queue everybody exploding from the feels*

edit: Lavellan's choices in Inquisition effect if you can die with him, be with him forever, etc. he has to have been convinced that everyone is a person. Your quissy has to have chosen to change his heart at the end of Trespasser.

I totally agree with you. It will be sad but at the same time, what else can they do? Let him live in peace in a little cottage by the sea with his Vhenan...nope. As great as that sounds, I cant see it.

Unless they escape to some far corner of the fade together, I only see one way. :crying: But I think you might be right about there spirits being together. I can absolutely see that.

I still want my "Together in Uthenera" ending, dammit! No, but seriously, I think that could be a good solution. Solas' could be really, really weak after he collapsed the Veil (raising it caused him to sleep for thousands of years) and instead of dying, he would most likely have to sleep for a long time. If we choose not to kill him, that is. So I could see a romanced Lavellan deciding to go with him into Uthenera - they wouldn't die, Solas wouldn't be able to cause any more harm and Quizzie would not have to be the main focus anymore. And they could still roam the Fade together and help rebuilt the world from within their dreams.
