I had to stop that one after the author said it wouldn't end happily I was expecting fluff with a plot and don't want a bad ending. The game's bad enough

I don't want a gut wrenching ending forced on me. I just don't. Themes of death, sacrifice and redemption are powerful; but, sad endings for the sake of angst and the veneer of sophistication are overdone these days to the point of seeming trite. I'm reminded of the phrase 'dark and gritty' that so many TV shows latched onto. It lost its meaning after awhile and was just another thing that everyone tried to emulate to be cool.

 

I want the story to follow a logical, meaningful conclusion and as much as people will make fun of this, being redeemed through the help of the people that care about you is also a powerful and worthwhile message. It doesn't have to be done in a cheesy or 'fairy tale' manner. There should be costs for his redemption but the cost doesn't necessarily have to be death. The ending can be bittersweet but still allow for Solas and Lavellan to be together in some fashion.

Death is only the beginning!! I kid!

 

Like you say, it should follow a logical conclusion and make sense. Whether that be alive or dead.  Legion's death in ME3 is forced on you but it made sense.  I cried for 20 min. and loved every second.  I'm not fighting for Solas' death. I'm just fighting for good storytelling and I'm loathe to say that death is "grimdark". It's not.  there are a lot of really really lovely stories where it ends in death.  Soft, sweet, and slow stories.  

 

Yes Redemption is powerful and him staying alive can be as well.  But alternatively it could be equally as powerful and not "trite".   Since it's just character death and has been going on in stories since...well...when man first started telling them.  

 

Death is a scary and a powerful mystery.   But it's not necessarily bad. It can be viewed as a blessing and a peace in certain ways.  Hell even Erimond was happy to die. He BELIEVED in his bones he would be going to the side of his God.  He prefers is over Tranquility.  If you really wanted to punish Erimond, you should have made him tranquil.  Again, I'm not advocating for Solas' death. I'm more like... woo good story telling. Death is ok!!  Kill your characters!! Cut deeper!!

She announced it on tumblr a few chapters ago. So, I jumped ship. I've yet to find a modern AU I could stick with *sighs* Message sent had promises, but I want my happy ending, dread wolf take it all!

I wouldn't put his plan on Mythal's shoulders. From everything he tells us, it's been his plan all along, possibly from before he actually woke from uthenera. Unless he's been subtly influenced by Mythal since ancient times, which... would actually not be totally impossible if the theory that he was "hers" at some point is true.

Well, I'm not saying she is the big bad, but remember what she tells Hawke about who she is...the fly in the ointment, whisper in the shadows, etc. She has a dark side we have not really seen yet, and she is too important a character to count out yet. But Solas is clever in his own right, so who knows. Maybe he has something up his sleeves too.

I'm the kind of person that loves sadness and feels in normal fanfiction, but I really crave happy ends or at least bittersweet ends in AU's. It's weird, but my inner idiot tells me "Hey, they are in a different world now, they can be happy! Right? ...right?"

I don't mind angst and drama during the course of the fic (or novel) but I will usually want the resolution to be a happy one. In Message Sent, you can tell the whole thing will explode in their face at some point (not saying what in case someone wants to try the fic ) but I was hoping for a happy resolution to the conflict. Seems the author isn't going for that...

She definitely has a dark side, and I'm pretty sure she'll come back in some capacity as soon as Solas' plan start diverging from her own, but I am expecting the relationship with Solas to have several layers. They hint at this, and I hope we find out in the next game!

Yes, there was a lot of talk that it was sloppily drawn and wasn't fitting of Solas' style and that the wolf is definitely a dragon, not a wolf.

Oh. I must have missed that. I just assumed that it was a wolf and a dragon because that like... made the most sense.

Seems the author isn't going for that...

 

 

Yeah, this latest chapter is definitely continuing to point in that direction. I expect it. It's fine to me. What bothered me was the surprise smut, but feels? I can do feels.

 

I've been attempting to come up with an actual fluff story to write but I get like...a sentence or a scrap and the rest isn't quite coming.

Does this still happen if you don't have OGB world state in Inquisition? Just asking, because I haven't played without living Warden yet.

 

That does still happen in states where there was no OGB... which is also the basis of my theory of even if the OGB didn't exist in your state Flemeth could have procured a similar soul through other means (I mean she's been pulling all the strings for years) and there is potential she sent Mythal through to Morrigan and Solas got the other soul instead.

I've been wanting to try an archeology/Indiana Jones-related AU for a while now, but I can't seem to get started on it, and anyway it's better that I not try for more than one fic at a time. I have enough on my plate with my post-Trespasser fic.
