As long as it's over before I die it's cool.

Didn't feel like doing my workout this evening.

Reminding myself I want to live long enough to play all the DA games is making me move my arse

NOT WHILE MY SOLAS ROMANCE IS UNRESOLVED! WORK DEM THIGHS.

How have my likes still not come back? It's been 24 hours! I think this forum just hates me.

Oculus Rift.  Q1 2016.

No guarantee that Dragon Age will support VR headsets, but the technology's already here, and it's sweet as all hell.

Yes, I'd love to see DA4 on the Oculus Rift, though that's probably a little optimistic. Imagine being toasted by a dragon...! They'd better make a Solavellan sex scene then...

I can just imagine a VR sex scene being awkward as heck, frankly lol.

Yeah...I don't really need that in my life.

Also, in case anyone needed more feels, I was listening to the Dread Wolf theme, and someone pointed this out in the YouTube comments:

Lavellan sometimes came awake from dreams in which her lover watched her sadly from across an endless distance.
If they were more than simple dreams, she could not say, for every time she reached for him, he vanished into nothing.
Still she searched, and dreamed, and waited, for a way to change the dread wolf's heart.

The fact that only this part is written in the same rhythm and meter as Solas' speech is just... so.. ugh. Dread Wolf what have you done to me :(

I can hear the Hallelujah cadence when he talks, but I didn't recognize it written.  WEEEEEEEEEEEEKES!  :crying:

Honestly? I think I'd be creeped out by this . In fact I don't know what I think about VR experience as of now - I suppose it depends how the game will be designed, but I feel comfortable controlling ("watching") the 3rd person character and having something of physical distance between me and my game.

(I've never used TES 1st person mode and it's also one of reasons I don't play FPS games. Feels a bit 'too close' for me...)

Agreed. However long it takes!

Okay hopefully not that long. Seriously, I am bad at patience. I'll give them 82 years tops. And now my brain is making out of place Titanic references to the Solas romance.

Solas: I'll never forget you.
Tiger Festival: <blowing a whistle angrily after him> COME BACK!

True, I'm sure that's not where their priorities are in any case. We're getting the fade-to-black even now.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Rift when I tried it, but it was first person (Eve Valkyrie) and honestly I was too busy gawking around at space to think about how a 3rd person game would look. My boyfriend tried it with a third person platformer, and he said it was gorgeous and interesting, but it took his brain a bit to adjust to the disconnect between expecting first person and getting third person.

Good point. I like TES first person mode, but in VR it does feel a little weird. We tried Skyrim on the Oculus Rift once, and it was, well, buggy, of course, since it wasn't designed for it, but yes, it felt really weird.

Once they refine the technology it might feel better, but even then it might feel a little too intense.

Yeah, I feel that the technology is slowly "catching up", but we're yet to see most games being designed for it. I mean, while the games seem to be a medium of choice of early 21st century, the gaming industry overall is still very young and still has to figure out many things even with games for consoles/PCs, much less for something that's supposed to be way more immersive. The 3D imagery used in most games, for example, just starts to scramble itself way up from the Uncanny Valley effect.

I prefer the fade-to-black. I have yet to see a sex scene that didn't make me snicker for some reason or another.

Then again, I find porn funny, so maybe I'm just not the target audience for video game sex :D

I'd not heard of the technology before today. Sounds real fun, but I can just imagine the violence of some video games coming across as perhaps a little gory. Not sure I want to come face to face with a darkspawn in full VR glory :P

Same (and I have the same reaction to porn), I'm happy with a fade-to-black or subtle, but suggestive cadres (then fade to black) - that's really enough, especially in a medium that is yet to make it look in any way acceptable in terms of realism (honestly, when I saw Cullen of Blackwall scenes one of the first things I thought was 'SOMEONE! Throw them a blanket! They must be FREEZING there!!').

And even if we'd eventually start getting 'realistic' scenes, personally I don't really think I need to see anything too explicit - I have my own imagination, thank you very much :D I want it stimulated, not replaced.

I like you.  Couple of my friends made me watch a porn movie once - when they found out I had never seen one.  I spent the entire time critiquing the acting, the "outfits", the lack of logic in the story, the script.  My friends just looked at me and said, that's not the point!

Actually, it's something to think about, isn't it? The video game industry has already been criticised for its possible effects on youth behaviour, if VR takes the realism aspect further, a lot of people are going to be uncomfortable with it, for a number of reasons.

Anyway, VR Solas, at least, would be nice, I think.

Hello Solas thread!

I was just listening to my Phantom of the Opera CD and I was wondering if anyone had compared Solas and Lavellan"s romance to Christine and the Phantom's. Or if I'm the only person here who likes musicals that's fine too. Just something I noticed...

LOL, so I'm not the only one :D Like, most of these movies are SOOO poorly done I can't help but to be off-put just by sheer lack of quality itself. I have a higher chance of getting excited by eating chocolate than watching those travesties.

MY LIKES ARE BACK!

1121885.jpg

I find porn fascinating. I'm asexual so it does nothing for me, but I have watched it (and ruined it for others  ) to comment on the 'art direction'. I love the fact that someone has to get really in/under there to get some of those erm, graphic close ups. What a job. I just can't stop imagining and trying to pinpoint where the cameraperson must have been to get certain shots. It is so weird when you give it a lot of thought. When you really think about what it is you're watching.

Oh, I'm off again. I already scare my friend with my weird fascination of porn.

I can't deal with it in games so much because it just feels so awkward. I become painfully aware that I'm sitting alone, watching two animated characters rolling around, sometimes clipping  and I'm not sure what I'm meant to feel.

I will never say no to a naked ass though. I am all about that rump. That junk in your trunk. Shaking what your mother gave ya'. Male or Female, I am going to admire your gluteus maximus. It's why I like the Dorian 'sex scene'. Just his glorious backside on display. I don't need weird simulate rolling. Just give me someone flashing their buttcheeks and I'm good.

But yes, my asexuality is another reason why a VR sex scene would be the worst thing for me. I happily play as sexual characters. I had a Hawke that tried to bang everyone because I love being characters that aren't like me. But try and stick me in a First person view point of that? Nooo no no. I would be so freaked out. VR also gives me headaches, so er, that old excuse.

I used to love that musical as a teen (and still do), but there's an element of unealthy stalking and obsession on Erik's part that is so not Solas. So, I don't think it really fits.

. . . Well, now that's you mentioned it. . .

Lavellan: "In sleep he sang to me

In dreams he came
That voice which calls to me and speaks my name
And do I dream again for now I find
The Dreeeead Wolf is there
Inside my mind"

Sera: That's creepy! You're creepy! You singing about this doesn't make it normal!

Lavellan: "Those who know your name
Draw back in fear
I am the mask you wear"

Sera: That's demon shite! Argh! Where's my arrows?

(Note: I left out Solas' version of the song because Erik's... um... unhealthy obsession toward Christine is thankfully absent.)

I think my favorite scene was from DAO when Morrigan put *on* a bra for sex.  Otherwise yeah I've found the scenes to be hilariously awkward.  The ME1 scene was fine, it was short.  Actually the ME3 scene was fine as well.  The DA2 scenes were all fade to black as well which worked for me.

I think what really needs to be worked on over all is the animation.  It was much better in DAI than DAO or DA2 but things like putting arms around people, actually having hands that grasp and hold, a character crossing their arms.  I'm not even talking about sex scenes in particular but things like Cole holding up Roderick in Haven during the attack.  Having two people interact with each other in a cutscene has usually looked awkward to me because the arms/bodies don't animate together very well.  And clipping with clothes/hair.

Well, it's not just games that experiments with VR experiences and augmented reality - we hear of Google and Microsoft creating glasses/googles that will have virtual elements (names of shops, identities of people, adverts, etc) displayed directly on our field of view.

That itself is an interesting thing to ponder about - even a question of "what the heck is real anymore?" can become relevant at one point or another (kinda weird to think about us being on a route of creating what is effectively artificial Fade )

Well Solas, at the end of Trespasser, does watch Lavellan in her dreams. While I thought that was (sweet?) it still is kind of stalker-ish... In a "I love you" kind of way.
