I used to love that musical as a teen (and still do), but there's an element of unealthy stalking and obsession on Erik's part that is so not Solas. so, I don't think it really fits.

Well Solas, at the end of Trespasser, does watch Lavellan in her dreams. While I thought that was (sweet?) it still is kind of stalker-ish... In a "I love you" kind of way.

Generally, they tried very hard to make the Solavellan romance as equitable as possible given the constraints of the characters and story, and steer clear of the creepy.

I think it was David Gaider (in forum post about romance plots and stalking) who pointed out that what we consider creepy/stalker-ish vs. what we consider romantic is partially a function of context and execution. If it's done well, we think it's romantic. If it's done poorly or the context is disturbing, we find it creepy. I don't entirely agree with him, but I think he's got a point.

I will never say no to a naked ass though. I am all about that rump. That junk in your trunk. Shaking what your mother gave ya'. Male or Female, I am going to admire your gluteus maximus. It's why I like the Dorian 'sex scene'. Just his glorious backside on display. I don't need weird simulate rolling. Just give me someone flashing their buttcheeks and I'm good.

Dorian butt is best butt <3

And that's probably my favorite intimate scene that I've actually played.  It's clear that they had sex, but that's not the point of the scene.  There's a little eye candy and some humor, but mostly it's sweetness and feels.

(Note: I left out Solas' version of the song because Erik's... um... unhealthy obsession toward Christine is thankfully absent.)

Yeah, we could do w/ a bit MORE obsession on Solas' end, frankly.  ;)

But yes, my asexuality is another reason why a VR sex scene would be the worst thing for me. I happily play as sexual characters. I had a Hawke that tried to bang everyone because I love being characters that aren't like me. But try and stick me in a First person view point of that? Nooo no no. I would be so freaked out. VR also gives me headaches, so er, that old excuse.

Someone I can relate to, yay! :D I love to roleplay, but being demisexual/somewhere on the asexual spectrum really makes you question a lot of the stuff that you see. I never feel anything from looking at NSFW fanart or something. I read smut to learn more about how scenes like that could be done right, not to feel anything or get anything out of it. I'm just going to analyse the sh*t out of it. Same for scenes in video games or movies. If you show something that should stimulate others at least a little, then you must pass the asexual analysing test.

Just not Erik's kind of obsession :P. Else, he'll end up murdering stagehands and kidnapping her mid-performance (is it bad that I kinda want to see this AU now?)

Well, as long as we don't compare the Solavellan romance to Romeo and Juliet, the movie Psycho or Faust I'm still good.

I think my favorite scene was from DAO when Morrigan put *on* a bra for sex.  Otherwise yeah I've found the scenes to be hilariously awkward.  The ME1 scene was fine, it was short.  Actually the ME3 scene was fine as well.  The DA2 scenes were all fade to black as well which worked for me.

I think what really needs to be worked on over all is the animation.  It was much better in DAI than DAO or DA2 but things like putting arms around people, actually having hands that grasp and hold, a character crossing their arms.  I'm not even talking about sex scenes in particular but things like Cole holding up Roderick in Haven during the attack.  Having two people interact with each other in a cutscene has usually looked awkward to me because the arms/bodies don't animate together very well.  And clipping with clothes/hair.

I think they'll refine it way more in DA4, now that they don't have to deal with old-gen - since I am 90% sure that it's that particular limitation that has caused body animations to be kinda wooden (the body model and the textures themselves are mostly low quality compared to faces and likely with not that many bones - for animation - or movement range). They even said at one point in one of Pax Q&A's that some of the more advanced animations (the example given was Sera running her fingers through grass) would make Xbox 360 literally burst into flames!

Anyway - the patch prior to Trespasser contained refined facial animations and lipsynch for the base game for PC and nex-gent and while the difference is subtle, it does indeed make a difference in how real the faces seem to move or create expressions. It has also made a whole world of difference for the devs in creating new scenes for Trespasser, which is why a great majority of players reacted so positively to the scene with Solas.

So I can only imagine how good animations can be from now on. In fact I've seen what can be done for PC/next-gen in Witcher 3 - while not everything's perfect (some of the sex or kiss scenes were... um... bizarre-looking), the overall refinement of movement and body-object interactions were actually pretty spot on. At one point we've even had characters who counted things on fingers or grabbed things as small and thin as human ear and it looked very nice and realistic with the way things interacted with one another.

Of course I'm not sure how much work would have to be done to get EVERYTHING right, especially that they have to adjust every scene to different body models of different races, but I assume that whatever we're going to be in DA4 will blow animations in DA3 out of the water.

Grrr...I hate when I can't find something.

I know someone drew some art of Solas and Lavellan dressed up as Erik and Christine months and months ago. Maybe Sunny can find it.

I just want to share this post by Geeky Jez with everyone. It's a well-written argument for why we should make Inky the next protagonist. The only thing that I disagree with is that I don't think a dual protagonist thing would work well unless Bioware wants to make a really long game. Something like 3-4 core missions just isn't enough to flush out two characters.

I wouldn't be surprised if that happened either.  The animations have been getting better in each DA game.  The biggest constraint I think will be, as you said, the different races/body types.

If you want something truly depressing from PotO, or at least movie-wise, listen to "Learn To Be Lonely' or "No One Would Listen". Same tune but different lyrics, I'd lean more towards the latter song.

I seriously do hope I get to play my quizzy again. But what I absolutely hope they don't do is bring her back like they did with Hawke UNLESS it's done very well. Didn't really like that my entire romance with Anders was pretty much summed up in one sentence when talking to Hawke. It felt very one-dimensional like I didn't even know who they were.

As it is now, it seems like they set it up for the Inquisitor to come back in a major role. Passing it off to a whole new person now would seem so strange, when the Inquisitor has done all the work and knows who Solas is and how he works.

But...you like monsters! :P

If it makes you feel better, I made myself cry a few weeks ago looking for that quote about the alethiometer.  That led to me rereading the end of Amber Spyglass.  The last time I read that book, I was seventeen.  Now with more life experience (including being in love), all the feels are magnified tenfold  :crying:

Yea but...I want to bone new people!

I do agree the Inquisitor HAS to come back but I think their story is pretty fleshed out.  A new person with their story's interwoven in with the Inquisitors like GTAV --  would work. The game is long.  I mean, people aren't really all that unopposed to long games.

The Witcher 3 made 6 million dollars and it takes about 12,000 years to play out. LIke I literally died playing it.  (It's about 100 hours but still...long game).

I'm a big fan of the whole 'thrill of the chase' thing. The tension, the drama, the passion with your clothes still on. I get so much more excitement and appreciation from those scenes than I do from bumping their junk. Which, yeah, never quite sure how I'm meant to feel about those (when I play the Witcher games I actively avoid all the sex scenes. Geralt the serial friend-zoner of Rivia, in action!)

It's why I get so much out of the Solas romancethough. Whether you think they had sex or not doesn't matter, because there is so much passion outside of that. Those kissing scenes in the main game are inteeeense. Then the emotions between the two of them in Trespasser? FEEEELS FOR MY HEART.

That right there is what excites me. It's why I also love the Dorian romance so much (outside of the fact he has a wonderful buttocks). I love the emotions there, and his scenes in Trespasser with a romanced Quizzy really show growth in character with something as simple as a kiss.

I have a lot of love for many of the LI's in DAI. I know many get a lot of stick for not being all the sex or serious people want, but I'm happy with most of them. I'll never forget the awkward horror of those DAO sex scenes  and I'm still not a great lover of the romances in DA2. DAI got it right for me. Sometimes I feel alone in that when I wander into other sections of this forum xD but I stand firm in my love for it!

And I hope we can actually help see it through to the end, not just show up for a lesser mission to help the new protagonist thwart one of his lesser plans (like Hawke only helping to stop Corypheus from forming a demon army), then either get left behind in the Fade or leave the country on some meaningless errand while the new protagonist actually stops / redeems Solas.   :pinched:

Boning new ppl is easy. There's dragon age keep. Just make scenarios in which you were practicing sexual purity during DAI cuz you only had energy to kill demons.

Lyra and Will.  That's the comparison that always pops into my head.

Ouch. That comparison..

..Although admittedly did think of a similar one with Van and Hitomi from the anime series The Vision of Escaflowne. If I remember correctly (been many, maaany years since I watched it) they have a similar end.

Why am I giving myself emotions at 1am? I should asleep. Not feeling things.

They do. Then, you realize Hitomi's like 14 and Alen (don't remember the right spelling) is in his early twenties and the whole thing just goes a bit (a lot) creepier lol! Still, that ending killed me! I was a sobbing mess.
