Ouch. That comparison..

..Although admittedly did think of a similar one with Van and Hitomi from the anime series The Vision of Escaflowne. If I remember correctly (been many, maaany years since I watched it) they have a similar end. 

 

Why am I giving myself emotions at 1am? I should asleep. Not feeling things. 

 

First, I love your avatar. 

 

Second, I hate those weak cop-out "we're from different dimensions and now our inter-dimensional travel as been cut off and we have to stay in our own worlds separate forever" type endings. It's like, why have these characters meet and spend the long and painful process of falling in love if you're just going to suddenly pull the "oh, sorry, we have to go back to our own worlds and say goodbye forever" card at the last minute?

 

I mean, I can appreciate a sad and tragic romance as much as the next person here (we wouldn't be Solasmancers if we couldn't take it), but the tragedy has to feel meaningful, not a Deu Angst Machina. 

 

(That's honestly why I like Vision of Escaflowne Abridged (VEAS) better than the original. Apart from being surprisingly sweet, sincere, and a genuinely affectionate parody of the show, I like how it spoofs the goofier aspects, deconstructs the nonsensical, and just calls bull on weak, cop-out plots... like the ending. Without giving away the ending, I like this ending much better.)

I'd not heard of the technology before today. Sounds real fun, but I can just imagine the violence of some video games coming across as perhaps a little gory. Not sure I want to come face to face with a darkspawn in full VR glory

 

I'm horribly arachnophobic. Playing a game like DA with a VR system? Nope, not unless I want a panic attack.

They do. Then, you realize Hitomi's like 14 and Alen (don't remember the right spelling) is in his early twenties and the whole thing just goes a bit (a lot) creepier lol! Still, that ending killed me! I was a sobbing mess.

 

I always hated that guy   The Japanese VA for Van was my favourite back when the series aired so I was always going to favour Van and hate anyone that got in his way.

Because I have a voice bias that goes beyond just Dragon Age

Luckily I don't think we can have a 'my world, your world' ending for Solas and Lavellan. It seems very much like it's one world at the cost of the other  Either they stay in the same place or things get messy.

I think Solas talking about enjoying side benefits with her was way hotter and sexier than any sex scene ever could be in the game.  The sex scenes just make me lol but Solas' kisses?  Holy freakin' Elven orb balls, I was so happy I was alone when the cutscenes happened cause I was blushing like crazy.

I use that mod for Skyrim and I mod out the spiders in DA2 and I had a mod for Origins that I think turned them colors.

Hello Solas thread!

I was just listening to my Phantom of the Opera CD and I was wondering if anyone had compared Solas and Lavellan"s romance to Christine and the Phantom's. Or if I'm the only person here who likes musicals that's fine too. Just something I noticed...

 

Patrick Weekes made that comparison before. On Twitter at some point. He was referring to the musical and said he hadn't read the book. I've only read the book and heard songs from the musical.

 

People were pointing out the bad parts of Erik's obsession to him when he clarified.

the book has almost nothing to do with the musical. It's more like a protoo-thriller than anything. It's interesting in its own right, but shouldn't be mixed with the story told in the musical.

 

Also, I agree that the musical could have been telling a tragic love story, and in some ways it did, but as I've grown older I kinda stopped feeling so much for the characters. Christine never had the actual courage to go to Erik and help; Erik isn't quite mentally stable, and don't get me started on the Vicomte de Chagny...

 

It's a hot mess (and there is no sequel. Nope... doesn'T exist and nothing will make me think otherwise)

he leaves you alive, yeah cause of the 'few years of comfort i'm not a monster' spiel and yeah cuz in high approval inquisitor he WANTS to be shown he's wrong but mostly

 

he's just so damn proud and arrogant that he literally thinks they won't be able to stop him

*snicker* If it did wind up being a "all's well, the world is saved, now we have to go back to our own worlds" scenario, can anyone else see Solas trying to tear down the Veil a third time just to be with his vhenan again?

if not with mods, then likely with cheat engine - you can replace the look of the armor so long as you have codes/address to file with it.

Got another question for Solas fans. Actually it's more of a elven lore question, but there's lots of that on this thread.

 

In the Fade the main demon starts trying to plague the deepest concerns of your companions, and during that section there's an exchange between it and Solas completely in elven. Is there any way to know what they were talking about? They don't exactly allow us to ask about it afterward, and even my Lavellan was apparently clueless (because I am). Any ideas?

I don't know. It just seems a bit messed up to me. Of course, it's even more disturbing when it's about torturing Solas.

And yeah I have the sentinel/knight enchanter armor already (it's GORGEOUS) -- I purposefully made my Lavellan wear it just for that scene at the end, haha.

I think the only character I've hated enough to wish torture on was Dolores Umbridge.  I mean, sure, Azkaban is swell, but Ron's suggestion of feeding her to a box of starving skrewts was his best idea ever

Ah, Umbridge... the character created seemingly for the sole reason of "loving to hate her". I usually dislike such characters, but I can't deny that Rowling did an excellent job in creating someone... well... deliciously despicable.
