Yes. I do wonder if things are on some sort of time crunch that we aren't aware of yet. On one hand, it would make sense that the world is teetering on the brink of "oh s*it" and needs sudden and swift action. On another, if it's Solas being impatient and frantic for his own reasons I want him to own up to being the antagonist all on his own, without some half-bit excuse to "explain" his rationalization.

Well, he does say that to Varric.

Solas: The Grey Wardens allow elves and dwarves into their ranks?
Varric: Qunari too I imagine. They don't care about titles or blood, just stopping the Blight.
Solas: A pity they do it so badly then.
Blackwall: Would you care to repeat that?
Solas: Argue if you like, your fight against the darkspawn is noble, but what progress have you made?
Varric: Give them some credit, it's not like you can study the Blight safely. I may not like everything they've done, but without the wardens, we'd all be blighted by now.
Solas: They've bought us some time, I will grant them that.

Yup, I think the same thing.

In fact, the title of Herald itself has been implied by Flemeth (and Kieran) to mean so much more than what most Thedosians think it means.

"A Herald indeed. Shouting to the heavens, harbinger of a New Age."

So... Viddasala may not indeed be wrong when she said that it was actually Inquisitor who began pushing the world into change. Even if the chain of events that led to Quizzy's rising was began somewhere else - years ago, before Corypheus or Felassan... who knows, maybe even before the Veil was created.

It's controversial statement, I know, but I'm starting to think that the world needed change even before that and the Veil and that it's been indeed long time coming. The world of elves wasn't perfect and Mythal and Fen'Harel seemed to be involved in making a difference - that much is rather strongly implied. The Evnauris made their move against them, Mythal died and it forced the Dread Wolf to act.. but perhaps from world's (or Fate's, or.. Maker's?) perspective the creation of the Veil itself might have been an important step in a route for a necessary re-balance, by letting new forms of life with different perspective grow and make their mark, because back at pre-Veil times such new ways of thinking, or perhaps the strength of spirit or resolve necessary for "the Final Push" was unobtainable.

I bet not all may be comfortable with the idea that everything that happened till now was a matter of Fate, but again - I just don't see it that way. For me it's equal parts fate, equal parts choice, which is exactly why we can play Quizzies who will get their chance to redeem Solas or those who will fail to impress him (and anyone else as well) and likely may squander their chance to make a real difference.

Can I just say, I am very amused that the end of the world may hinge on whether we asked Solas enough questions about the Fade. Turns out companion approval was where the real game was being played :))

I leave open the possibility there's a time crunch that's driving him desperate.

Yeah, he says once or twice how they are running out of time. Why we don't know.

With the hints about holding the Qunari off for a few years, I'm guessing maybe it is a war. A big world war, or massive war in the fade . Or something equally catastrophic. It has to be something that would cause Solas to actually think his actions are the lesser evil...since that seems to have been his reasoning when he put the veil up in the first place.

Or. He's crazy and power hungry because he's really been a pride demon this whole entire time. ;)

 Oh I'll think of something... Right now I'm torn between doing more tiny, silly or smaller things and something that would require more time.

You know best how you work so whatever works for you. I found that personally I like to have tiny silly things and more serious serious things running side by side. The tiny stuff lets me write something almost every day, goof around, and get some sense of completion, while I put my heart into the more serious things.

Well, I've been laughing for some time now that the probable alternate title for DAI could probably be "The Taming Of The Wolf" :D

But lets's face it - a lot of decisions or outcomes hinge on approval of companions - all companions, not just Solas. Inspire Leliana and take her from her route of becoming Marjolaine (the more I think about it the more Leliana and her internal conflict mirrors that of Solas).

Become friends with Cassandra and help her gain confidence and perhaps save the Seekers (something that may be important in future game, methinks). Help Thom Rainier stand on his own and start inspiring people on his own. Become friends with Vivienne, and while she might not entirely on your side, you can use her connection to nobility at full advantage.

Every companion offers benefits that goes beyond friendship - mostly because of how the story is constructed: it's a story about characters. But they're not just characters in their own right - through them we see and can influence many aspects of Thedas.

Agree! If we're going to redeem Fen'Harel, we should redeem them all. And then throw a pantheon sex party.

Concerning the Qunari:

What if, when the veil comes down and the Magic comes back, all of the Qunari become mages???

I see several possible outcomes, their society would probably collapse under the weight of their views on magic...They will likely start killing each other, killing themselves, or have a mass exodus of Tal-Vashoth, with assimilation as their only option for survival...

Maybe all those elves that Solas is gathering are clinical trial volunteers :D

In that case, he needs to get himself a CRC.  Who would promptly tell all the volunteers to go home because OMG UNETHICAL WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU MAN

Someone on tumblr had a hospital AU going on with Inquisition.  Post-Trespasser, NOPE.  Solas can stay the hell away from my complicated biological systems, thanks.

Speaking of the pantheon, man. Ghilan'nain. Solas must have hated her so much :)). She experimented on people so coldly. And I'm willing to bet some of the creatures she made were spirits forced to take shapes she crafted. Kind of goes against everything Solas stands for, the way I see it. Now I'm thinking that's why he went after the halla in that tied to the tree tale.

I am largely fine with him being ruthless, he is a complex character after all, and we love that. Unfortunately the problem I'm seeing now is that a large portion of BSN/Reddit seems to see him as the Big Bad, with all the evil stereotypes you can think of, I think he's been called a murderer, a psychopath, genocidal supremacist, etc.

Will Bioware let him be reduced to just that, since the majority of the DA players already seem to see him that way?

Luckily, it seems bioware likes going against expectations of their audience, so I'm willing to bet he won't. But then, I also betted bioware wouldn't say he's gonna tear down the veil, even if I thought he certainly wanted to and was capable of it.

That could still happen, too.

Grrr...I hate when I can't find something.

I know someone drew some art of Solas and Lavellan dressed up as Erik and Christine months and months ago. Maybe Sunny can find it.

Of course I missed the POTO conversation. >w< I love POTO but yeah..Erik is too posessive and stalker-ish to compare him to Solas. I still haven't finished my "Point of no return" Solavellan drawing but I'm going to work on it again soon. (The one Sunny posted is way better than my own drawing!)

I found this though!

Interestingly, Solas may have liked some things she made.

Ghilan'nain kept herself apart from the People. She used her power to create animals none had ever seen. The skies teemed with her monsters, the land with her beasts. Andruil hunted them all, and after a year of killing, approached Ghilan'nain with an offer: the gods would share their power with Ghilan'nain, but only if she destroyed her creations, for they were too untamed to remain among the People. Ghilan'nain agreed and asked for three days to undo what she had made.

On the first day she struck down the monsters of the air, except those she presented to Andruil as a gift.

On the second day she drowned the giants of the sea, except those in deep waters, for they were too well-wrought, and Pride stopped her hand.

On the third day she killed the beasts of the land, except the halla, whose grace she loved above all else.

This is how Ghilan'nain was made youngest of the gods.
