As far as Corypheus is concerned, it seems he had evil intentions/motivations, and actions throughout, he's an evil blighted magister, for gods' sake!!!  :P

Maybe if he didn't create the breach and all that, Solas's plans may have gone more smoothly, and allowed for less possible bloodshed and collateral damage/fallout as a result...BUT, that would be a different game entirely, wouldn't it? :D

He didn't. He's not.  His actions were no different than Solas' actually. They were actually motivated on faith.  Unfortunately the game did a ****** poor job of showing it, but he breached the golden city to see his god.  He tells you this.  He is motivated by his lost faith and wanting it to be affirmed. When he was shown that Dumat was not real he wanted to be the God that Thedas deserved. Then at the end, when you send him to the fade, he finds the last shreds of his faith.  He dies believing. Corypheus is actually really really sad.

Ok now I have magister feels. Going to cry now.

One thing that I enjoyed is the treatment of Solas' identity. There were all kinds of theories about how he was all these other historical figures or that Solas is the man and Fen'Harel is the god soul. Instead they revealed that Solas was Solas first and Fen'Harel is the title. This means that despite all the deception, we got to see the real him instead of the one who has to put on a front to rally the slaves. I find that very sweet and I'm glad Solas is really the Solas we got to know instead of a bunch of other stuff mixed in.

Well, my Lavellan is all in.  What would be interesting is that if Solas can only be saved by sacrificing many more lives/resources than just killng him would require, because at what point does it become no longer worth it?

I've said it before but I figure its worth mentioning again. When faced with the choice to save thousands of innocent lives that had been lost, or save my dog in fable 2, I picked my doggie. Thus, the nameless innocents of Thedas better hope the cruel hands of fate, AKA the devs, don't make the scales to save Solas too unbalanced. Besides, Solas is aiming to destroy the whole world. I figure anything less is a bargain, no?

"Half of Tevinter and a couple of Orlesians may die. But! You'll have your man!"

Well! Sounds like a deal to me~

I admit I have a really hard time justifying the actions of, feeling any empathy for, or seeing any Good in an evil, blighted magister that's been trying to kill me since DA2...

Am I a bad person??? (sniffle) :crying:

Well, now I kinda feel the need to post this :

I'd never thought of Corypheus in that way, but you gave me lots to ponder.

Yes.

I do think Cory was wasted as a villian.  He has so much backstory and tragedy but a lot of that is hidden behind the Templar route, in codex entries and in a DLC for a different game.

I'm kidding. I don't justify his actions by any stretch(though he did in-advertantly save your butt by not dying) but I think their motivations and his desires are really upsetting to me and you can see that he was SO desperate to believe in something.  I do recommend reading the WOT2 to get more on the magisters. I think they are fascinating. But I have an insane soft spot for stories about collapsing faith and the things people do to keep it.

EDIT: And I do want to add so I don't come off too crappy - the game did a BAD job.  Your view of him is totally understandable because you would have to read like every little codex entry, the supplemental material, and then make some inferences with his dialogue.  He was well and truly wasted because I think we are supposed to see a bit of Solas in him.

I actually have my copies of WOT and WOT2 in front of me right now...and I've read the novels, but not the comics as of yet. ;) Been doing a lot of "research" lately.

I feel no sympathy for Cory. Ever.

Why?

Because I still remember that boss battle in DA2: Legacy.

RVBi3T1.gif

So much swearing was had from me during that fight..

Ah. But I do wish they'd done more with his character in DAI. Especially as he kinda is the hero in his own messed up way. He just doesn't do much of anything past the time he shows up in Haven. It seems like such a waste.

I also forgot that Varric says the whole "If he pulls a dragon out his ass, I'm leaving" comment when you fight him in DA2.

Gee, thanks Varric. THANKS FOR GIVING HIM THE IDEA.

The thing is, he will never be evil. His actions are evil. They just are. They are bad.  The big question is: Are we more than our actions?

Is Blackwall more than his selfish murder? Is Samson?

These are all important questions and ones that are totally left up to the player.

I've always held that we're all born more or less the same. Some of us just make bad choices or cause harm with our actions. In some cases, that defines us and everything we do, either in our own eyes or that of others. In other cases, a bad choice or hurtful decision is what reaches through to us and helps us to understand, or learn, or grow. We just have to be willing to listen and do so. Not everyone will be. So some people can turn their lives around and spend the rest of their days doing good for the world, and others will die the villain everyone saw them as. Most of us meander in the middle of that, and that's just how life goes.

But this is why I can't see anyone as just good or just bad. We all have potential within us for both sides of that coin, and sometimes despite our best intentions we will royally **** something up. It's what we do after that really matters. Which is why Blackwall was not "redeemed" in my eyes until Trespasser, when he showed that he finally understood himself and his actions and moved forward based on that. But... redeemed he was. I really hope no less for Solas, because as bad as his actions were, and as bad as they may be, he still can stop and make a different choice.

I mean, potentially. Based on the info we have at the moment.

Or we can learn it really is the best of a bad set of choices, and then the decision will be ours. I wonder just how those choices might define our place in the eyes of Thedas. :P

I really hope we get drastically different ending scenario options once this game is done. I'd also give Bioware a tip of the hat if they had a "terrible (you all failed) now burn in fire" ending option. You know, in addition to the other final world states.

OH. Blanket fort denizens, have you tried Starbucks' apple pound cake yet? I vote we bring these in addition to cookies and tea. PSL also welcome.

And OT: Real life dilemma: does going to the gym help or hurt you if you're sick? :S
