I still would have romanced the hell out of him with a male Lavellan.  I remember when Kyriel was going to be male. :P

As for the rest, I'm 99% sure we'll see Maevaris in the next DA for fabulous Tevinter funtimes :)

I am so hype for Maevaris in DA4.

It'll save him a lot of headaches in the future of people running to him and demanding he validate their headcanon. :P (Whichever way that might have run.)

... Sad thing is, I don't think people will stop asking about this, just like they won't stop asking about HOF, despite many Bioware devs being pretty clear about what they think about the possibility of future appearance of first DA hero in any future game.

It will be so great to hang out with someone who enjoys Tevinter politics as much as she does. I mean, Dorian secretly enjoys Tevinter politics, but he'd never admit to such a thing.

Mae truly revels in it, and there's something refreshing about that.

He didn't. He's not.  His actions were no different than Solas' actually. They were actually motivated on faith.  Unfortunately the game did a ****** poor job of showing it, but he breached the golden city to see his god.  He tells you this.  He is motivated by his lost faith and wanting it to be affirmed. When he was shown that Dumat was not real he wanted to be the God that Thedas deserved. Then at the end, when you send him to the fade, he finds the last shreds of his faith.  He dies believing. Corypheus is actually really really sad.

Yes.

I do think Cory was wasted as a villian.  He has so much backstory and tragedy but a lot of that is hidden behind the Templar route, in codex entries and in a DLC for a different game.

It's interesting to note that the name "Corypheus" is the anglicized version of the Greek word "Koryphaios," which is the lead actor in a dramatic chorus.  What is the role of the Chorus?  To describe action without actually being able to do anything.  To comment on the deeds of gods and heroes while remaining passive.  To set the stage for the players who really matter.  Cory is the actor who showed up to play his part, only to find the stage empty and the script unwritten.

So naturally he goes nuts and tries to burn down the theater.  Like you do.

Yeah, I always conceptualize Cory as this guy who said to himself "it sucks that the universe is indifferent and there are no gods. Maybe if I put on a god costume and pretend, people will be happier and the world will make more sense." So he comes up with this persona, complete with the monologues and the flashiness and the ridiculous weaknesses that gods have from the legends, and he tries his level best to act it out. Flaws and all.

Well, it'll save him headaches for that particular question.  Fandom will find other ways to give him headaches, I'm sure

Well, someone did ask him about the whole menstrual blood/blood magic thing. I have to wonder which came first after he read that -- the tears, or the facepalm.

So Patrick finally answered why Solas is female only.

https://twitter.com/...891965045448708

Solas was intentionally written as straight to avoid the "Depraved Bisexual" trope because of how some people would view him.

I've never heard of this trope before, lol.

It's something I think many people don't notice or pay attention to if not particularly concerned with matters of bisexual representation. I really appreciate the decision  they made though. Really thoughtful on their part.

Honestly, I just can't think of many bisexual characters for one, and the few I do know are mainly from Bioware games... Spartacus I guess.

Sounds like an anime thing mainly.

It's nice, but I wish it didn't come at the cost of once again having plot heavy characters being straight romance only.  While I've mostly gotten over it, this being brought up again kinda re-opens an old wound for me.

I give him props for answering the question! And I think they probably made the right call...but it wouldn't have been a problem if there were more diversity in gay romance types. Hopefully in the future, that will be changed.

There are a lot of anime examples, but also TV, movies, books. Not a trope for nothing. :P

Essentially, the DA team does try but at the same time, gating accomplishes a few things - representation (having someone be monosexual but not straight is new to DA), encouragement to replay, as well as sometimes, as with Solas, an appreciation for avoiding certain tropes. Whether they gate or DA2 happens again where everyone but one character is bi, (which had its own issues), they can just never please everyone on this.  I like how characters have their own orientations in DAI, personally. People can roll the PC who a character would be interested in (though for some that may trigger dysphoria, for many, it works okay).

Sooo um

I'm pretty sure all the ancient elves were rendered mortal through the veil, and only uthenera is keeping them alive. Apparently other people are thinking differently so I just wanna know if this has ever been clarified

So it looks like the people I was debating with misquoted the article.

I think most of the people are just stuck with this "new game = new protagonist" idea which was said long time ago. Just because BW said it doesn't mean things can't change in the future.
