Sooo um
I'm pretty sure all the ancient elves were rendered mortal through the veil, and only uthenera is keeping them alive. Apparently other people are thinking differently so I just wanna know if this has ever been clarified
I don't know if it has ever been clarified......but I do think ancient elves have been rendered mortal. Maybe not as mortal as modern elves if that makes sense. Like, maybe they live longer, but here is why I think that.
If you remember back at the Temple of Mythal, after you make an alliance with Abelas you are escorted by a female sentinel. I don't know if this was done on purpose...but she sort of...hobble as she walks with her staff. Like an old person would. No offense to the elderly. She is also carrying a large book and I actually wondered if maybe she is an elf that stays awake more than the other sentinels to take care of the ones who are in uthenera or the stasis Abelas mentions.
On another sad and unrelated note about uthenera is a codex entry from the that area that seems to be written by Abelas.
"We are trapped. The ones born here do not understand the keenness of what we have lost, or why so many of their elders weep as they enter uthenera. The new ones are faithful to Mythal, but do not understand what she was in her fullness. Without the wise to lead them, they will lose what they should have been.
I will teach them. They must serve. We must prepare for those who cast Mythal down. I shed my name the day I began her service. I shed my new one again, now that she rests. I will only be known by the sorrow that cuts my heart."
I have been wondering why ancient elves would cry about going into uthenera and I think it may be because before the Veil uthenera was probably a state where an elf could return to spirit form and roam the world as a spirit freely. After the Veil, it just meant going into the Fade that Solas created which.....probably not as fun.
Thinking about uthenera always gets depressing for me.
I'm gonna go back to finishing a cute little Solas and Lavellan pre-relationship thingy to cheer myself up now.
