I assume they didn't go with, because it was too difficult to realize that concept back at the time when they've had to re-adjust and simplify many aspects of the game for old-gen to be able to run it - but since they're done with old consoles, tackled Frostbite (which is being developed further with MEA) and have many things figured out on technical or conceptual level, as long as they're given a green light and good funds, there's really not much that can stop them, IMO.

Or they didn't go with it because it would be too similar to the Inquisitor, if they knew the character would eventually be losing the arm. Or maybe they did a missing arm/weapons mockup with Bull to hide the fact they were considering it for the Inquisitor. Either way, it's certainly something they could do. And it would be awesome if they did.

Honestly? I think they'd go with disabled protagonist just out of their sheer love for Mad Max: Fury Road and the awesomeness that is Furiosa - who... just happens to lack her left hand... cut in apparently the same spot Inky's hand is... And she has a pretty awesome/functional prosthetic made out of not really that technologically advanced parts...

I've seen many devs gush over this movie for months now, and I think that if they've had any doubts about bringing disabled protagonist, that movie might have convinced them that this is a route they should likely take.

Besides... we already know that they planned to bring a disabled character to DAI. Initially Iron Bull was supposed to lack his left hand and wield a bad ass artificial arm. They even went as far as 3D modelling and it seems that portions of his left arm cop are actually parts of his re-designed prosthetic!

No likes but yes! Gawd, I would love to play an Inquisitor with a range of fabulous prosthetics, all fully upgradeable etc. The gameplay potential is awesome if they could manage it.

Considering my warrior could already ostensibly shoot a grappling chain out of somewhere and hook and then yank something that weighed three times her weight through the air to land at her feet...

Prosthetics, let's go.

Doesn't even have to be magic-based to be awesome.

I've been thinking about headcanon and getting some more post-Trespasser writing inspiration. For my Lavellan, this is going to be rough for a while. Having trained in and used daggers for about 20 years by the end of the DLC, she's off balance, feeling highly vulnerable. I still don't have a completely clear idea what I'll give her, but I'm not writing this yet. The ideas are definitely forming though.

*gasp* And we could upgrade it like we can upgrade Bianca, with runes and grappling hooks and darts or whatever, weapons galore *dreamy sigh*

Well...now I can't help but to imagine Solas and my Lavellan sleeping cuddled and entangled together like two cats.

Cuddling-Kittens-017.jpg

Oh gawd, that's adorable! (instant headcanon)

That is the best mental image I can have right now. I'm sure that is Solas biggest regret.

For my Lavellan it's not combat but utility that presents the challenge.  By the end of the game, I still had a bow, but traps and grenades were the source of 80% of my damage, and Lavellan's perfectly capable of setting and chucking those one-handed.  But she's an artificer, and crafting is very different when one of your hands has been replaced by prosthetic hooks and attachable gadgets.

Just because a prosthetic is capable of certain things doesn't mean you can immediately use it to its full potential.  It takes practice.  Though personally, I'd prefer to strike a balance between real-life amputees who take months or years to adjust, and magical arms that instantly work.  It's a fantasy game; it'll still be difficult for a while, but I'd be fine with magi-tek prosthetics or compressing the timescale of recovery.

Considering everything else that went on with the whole losing the arm and the Inquisition, I expect my Lavellan marched herself down to Dagna and began work on some sort of prosthetic right away. She has a world to save and an ancient elvhen god's *ss to kick. And grab. But kick first.

Yes. I could be happy having her back to play in DA4.

This is definitely what's in the planning stages for me in terms of how to determine adjustment while still working toward this overall goal and returning to her clan to help them and retraining and all that. Much potential. Different for her when her damage came from her blades as a dual-wield assassin. Yes, there were techniques that allow you to stealth or toss sleep bombs if you wanted them, but even those gap closing moves or evasive ones, if they did damage, they were all tied to the blades. Particularly hard adjustment I think. But still figuring it all out.

Yes to both! I can see it now - fade touched variants, slots for runes and sigils, different metals/materials, possibly infused with lyrium for more magical effects. Differently purposed ones - a gadget-oriented one for assisting with lock opening, shield/weapon extensions, one that can provide healing/mana/stamina recovery, passives and buffs, even offensive magic. Our sending crystal can be embedded into the metalwork too.

Oh, I reaaallllly want this to happen now. I'm probably going to be gutted when they announce new protag no.4 and a scripted cameo for the Inquisitor handing us a note to give to Solas at the end ....

Alleyana already had hands so broken up and damaged she couldn't grip anything thinner than a sword hilt or the handle on her shield. All she needs is a flat bar extending off the bone with two holes in it, and a shield with two bolts and a couple (very large, because her right hand is still borked) wingnuts. It'd take her a minute to arm up (har) but after that, let's go.

And if she didn't have that minute, then to hell with it, she could do a lot of damage with just that bar. Sword-and-board Champion; her biceps and shoulders are ridiculously strong.

Honestly I can see dagger/dagger rogue having the hardest time. But we have no idea how crazy they could get with the prosthetics; my idea for Alley is quite basic and blunt and thus it's very suited to her style. Wrap the bar with a bit of duct tape for special outings... that counts as dressing up, right?

Judging by the poll results so far bioware is going to have a hard decision to make. I am surprised by the percentage of people who will be happy with the cameo option.

Man, I am in the worst mood today. I got my hair cut and it's way too short and way too choppy and I am severely annoyed but I just realized it's a bit like my Lavellan's just with additional longer layers underneath.

Still, the top part of my hair is basically this now. Which is simultaneously annoying and amusing.

I'm surprised with the amount of people that would rather a new protagonist to confront Solas.

I'm sorry! I have bangs and it's infuriating when they can't cut them the right way. I have ended up looking like Sera on occasions :|

Fingers crossed that it will be quicker than you realize when it grows back though :)

Me too. It just makes no sense that someone with no personal stake in this would be the one to resolve it! As someone posted in another thread, it would be like Darth Vader cutting Luke's hand off and doing the whole 'I am your father' spiel and then Lando turning up to finish the job in Return of the Jedi. Or Howe killing a HN's family in Origins, then Hawke taking him down in DA2. UGH. NO NARRATIVE SENSE.

All Bioware's best antagonists are ones where there's a personal thing going on - whether it's Master Li, Jon Irenicus, Howe/Loghain, even Revan fits into this - and here they are setting Solas up to be the best damn personal antagonist EVER, only for people to want random Tevinter dude who's never even met him to face him down. It saddens me :(

I suppose a lot of people who don't feel the emotionnal attachment to Solas Solavellan fans feel believe the Inquisitor's story to be mostly over?
