I completely agree with you Oswin on the returning companions. They left it perfect to give us new companions (with or without Inky being a part of the story) and it would not cause a disconnect or feeling of "wtf happened to everyone, I'm mad!"

That said Inky still needs to be in the game in some capacity for story reasons in relation to Solas, this goes for any relationship that the Inquisitor had with him.

The game that comes immediately to mind that I've played with dual protags (kinda) was FF8, switching back and forth between Squall and Laguna's storylines.  That was an interesting way to flesh out the story, kinda like a novel switching PoV chars.

What the hell even happens to Shale? She shows up to help Wynne and then, nothing.

Wasn't she going to go to Tevinter so see about a cure?

Cured Shale for cameo!?

The thing about having a game in the North that I'm excited about, is a whole new cast. As much as I love my DA characters from the 3 games - there better be a BLOODY good reason why they show up in DA4 or I won't be happy. Tevinter cares little about the South, and there aren't many who would happily go for a holiday there. So DAO cast? Only a Sten -> Arishok and possibly Shale would have reason to be up there. DA2? Fenris would have reason. No one else. DAI? Dorian. That's it.

I know it won't be a popular opinion but that's just how I feel. We aren't in the South anymore so the writers shouldn't have to worry about your choices from DAO and DA2. Who cares who rules Fereldan, Orlais or Orzammar. Not relevant in the GREAT IMPERIUM. The Mage/Templar war? Not relevant in Tevinter. Kirkwall? Nope.

For two games the only thing we really heard about Tevinter was 'Slave Trade!' and that was it. Dorian came along in DAI with Calpy and the Venetori to bring a bit more information but still not a great amount. I want that same attitude when we are in Tevinter.

I've played a couple that have switches in Protags.

Assassins Creed series had the switches between past a present with Desmond/Altair/Ezio and Random dude/Edward.

Tales of Xillia has two different leads and you see different parts of the story depending on who you play

Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep and Dream Drop Distance both involve switching between multiple protagonists

The Witcher 3 has it a bit with Geralt and Ciri. I suck at playing as Ciri

Jet Force Gemini! One of my favourites from the N64 had you switching between Dude, his sister and their dog. Damn that game was a pain in the ass. Still love it.

GTAV

I will throw in Borderlands here, because while they may be kinda characterless drones when you play them, they became rounded characters when the four of them show up in Borderlands 2

That bit in FF7 where you play as Cid for a bit..  :P

I could be here all night thinking through my games collection. But yeah, I've played a few with multiple protagonists and it is something I have liked.

I want to see a tiny, angry dwarven woman throwing rocks at birds.

That is 100% true.  It would be so dumb not to because his reaction is likely and largely based on his relationship with the Inquisitor. So it's like...they have to be there.

But going to be frank.  We are getting into fully new gen territory with the new game and the LI will be attractive.

A lot of JRPG's actually you play as multiple protags and old school point and clicks:

Suikoden - Which is considered one of the pillars of the genre

Saga

Banner Saga

The dreamfall games - same thing as broken sword

the brokensword games - YOU ALWAYS switched between the perspectives of the 2 main protags and they were usually separated physically and they went through different adventures

FF6

BEEF UP YOUR GAME LIBRARIES!

Has nothing to do with beefing up game libraries but more to do with preferences and how this story feels in comparison to previous games. I've played games with multiple protagonists including half of the ones you listed and others. Kind of comes off a bit condescending to assume those of us who would like a single protagonist don't have experience with multiple ones. But the Warden felt mostly done. Hawke felt mostly done. This is most definitely not done and I'd personally prefer to play as solely this character again.

*Sigh* Is it bad that I'm hoping at the Edmonton Expo they might give us some teasers or just flat out announce DA4.  Too much to hope for too soon right?

I have a problem. I can't stop messing with my Lavellan in the black emporium CC ... You think you get it right and then you get a cut scene with Solas and it's just terrible the contrast. Arrrg.

I would love having Dorian back, but I know that's just because I love Dorian to itty bitty bits.  It might not serve the story for him to be a companion, and I'll live somehow without my bestie :)

The only game I played which had kind of a multiple protagonist system was Ninja Gaiden Sigma, and I found it a little disorienting, almost like alternating between two books. Then again, if that was the only way we could get to play as the Inquisitor again, I'd be up for it. Also, I have confidence that Bioware would manage to make it feel seamless.

Very much too soon. :P  They have the GOTY edition coming.

But I do hope that with the DLC out we might get more Solas stuff in the store.

I'd much rather go the dual route.  I want to finish Inky's story, but I also want to get my heart broken by another sad elf.

I'm being facetious. Chu Chu asked and I remembered others and just responded again. I wasn't responding to you.  I think people should play those game because they are really good and considered classics.

I understand your preference is for a sequel.  I understand why.

I dunno, I think I'm kind of at sad elf capacity.  The latter third of Solas's romance (breakup through Trespasser) is just him and Lavellan competing for Saddest Puppy Face.  My Lavellan took the early lead when they broke up, but I think Solas rallied at the end with the extreme sadface right before he takes her arm.

What's the opposite of sad elf?  Cheerful dwarf?  Give me some dwarf lovin'! :D

I would like to see Dorian back in some kind of advisor type role. I feel he could be helpful there.

Then I'll take Mae as my mage companion  :D

and a team full of people wearing fabulous capes and black attire.

I agree. It just makes logical sense for Inky to be there - and that's no matter what are my personal feelings towards the Inky or their relationship with Solas (and there's always some sort of relationship; there's just no way the reveal of him as an antagonist and someone who had a hidden agenda all along would leave even the most non-caring Quizzy having no personal stakes in confronting/stopping him).

It just seems to flow naturally from the way they've constructed the story, especially in Trespasser. There was no ambiguous end or sending Inquisitor on retirement, narratively - even in the base game itself the Morrigan's VO claims that whatever new challenges may come, the Inquisition shall stand ready.

I'd say you should hook up with Dagna but she's dating Sera.

Maybe Sigrun?  Most cheerful dead girl ever!

Uhhh, I didn't expect these poll results. Sorry for stressing you guys out! *Hides in blanket fort.*

Its still 44% voting for the inquisitor to return as a PC so its not too bad.  :?

I absolutely want a dual protag because I think the quizzy probably has too much baggage to carry another full game.  I liked team but I really have no great wish to see them all in major roles again and would prefer they for the most part have only cameos (dorian, being the exception - he's an advisor).  This makes sense as Dorian is the only LI who is in the same place at the end of the game regardless (much like quizzy).

It would be difficult to have quizzy as a sole protag as some people would be unhappy if their LI was absent  and if all LIs were all returning characters it could be a little dull.

I would like the bulk of the story with a new protag, with an all new team.  It certainly makes sense in keeping a low profile and under Solas' radar.  The Inquisitor would be in the background waiting for their moment to strike.  I don't want my new protag to have any conversations with quizzy, but to send a representative to report on progress etc.

I would like for the quizzy to have their own missions at certain points in the game as well, and of course them being the one to confront Solas is a must.

C'mon, quizzy is not going to let a missing arm stop him/her. It's a fantasy game. Could use a mechanic arm, a blood magic arm, a non-blood magic arm, etc.
