Leliana's arc definitely took me from sad back to happy again as a player when I was able to help her put all of that behind her and find her way again and remind her of her great compassion. If they accomplish something similar with Solas, I'll be satisfied.

I know softened Leliana seems too idealistic to be a realistic Divine but Murder-pope Leliana is too bloody (thanks to whoever came up with that term, I love it), Cassandra is too middle of the road (which might seem like the best solution but sometimes isn't) and Vivienne horrifies me as Divine.  And I'm not trying to bash Vivienne, I like her as a character even if I don't personally like her.

Not that it's totally relevant, but Elgar'nan has Vengeance covered already IMO:

Elgar'nan (ell-GAR-nan)—also known as the All-Father, the Eldest of the Sun and He Who Overthrew His Father[1]—represents fatherhood and vengeance, and leads the pantheon with the goddess Mythal. He was the first of the elven gods, born of the sun and the earth. According to elven legend, the sun grew jealous of the favor shown by Elgar'nan for the things of the earth, and so burned them to ashes. In retaliation, Elgar'nan threw the sun down from the sky, and only later relented because of Mythal's intervention. He was convinced, with her help, to restore his father to the sky on the promise that the sun would set each night. With the aid of Mythal and his parents, Elgar'nan remade the world.[1] Most elves will invoke Elgar'nan's name when they seek retribution.

http://dragonage.wik.../wiki/Elgar'nan

Whereas Mythal symbolizes Justice and wants to be AVENGED, which in this case seems to imply righteous anger and wanting justice to be served...not blind vengeance!?!

Plus I think it would be kind of weird and/or redundant to have both potentially representing Vengeance in future games...They (Ancient Immortal Beings, etc.) can't all be baddies, can they?

...Go Team Optimism!!! :wizard:

Mythal did merge with Flemeth, though. And Flemeth certainly seemed to want vengeance of her own, so who knows how the two got all scrambled up in there?

Speaking of Arlathan, it's interesting that in DAO someone (don't remember who, it might even have been a codex. I should have paid better attention) says the black city at the center of the fade can't be accessed because no one actually remembers what it is or how it was.

Now this is interesting. Do you think when Solas saw it in the fade he saw something other than the black city we saw?

Also @TheEggCrusher, did you end up getting a reply for the tweet you sent yesterday? I can't remember what it was about, but I wanted to know :D.

No, I didn't :( I've been checking like every 10 minutes

I'm a bit bummed about it actually

(it was about whether the veil made all ancient elves mortal, and by effect, Solas)

That's right! Don't worry, if he avoids it: it could be very spoilery :P.

Those that Flemeth wanted to bring to justice were mortals however, and if I remember correctly, when meeting Flemythal in the fade she said something to the effect of "She (Mythal) gave me everything I had hoped for and more...". My thinking is that Flemeth already got her justice, maybe?

To me she doesn't. She's exactly the type of leader I'd want (and probably be), but then again I've been accused of being too idealistic. Take that as you will :P but it made me super happy for her to be my Divine. I still think she's best for the job. Cassandra is also fine, but not enough gets changed under her.

Well it seems to me like she's almost destined for the job :D You don't have lyriumghost!Leliana turning into a flock of ravens and leaving to parts unknown "until she is needed" if she's made Divine.

Well I would've never killed her in the first place. :P I didn't even harden her in Origins. She's one of my favorite DA characters so that added to it on the player side for me.

Oh, no I agree.  I've just seen many people say she's too idealistic and it'll never work.  I prefer her as Divine as well but I have also been told I tend to be too idealistic.  I guess we'll find out if that's a decision that turns around to bite us or not!

Personally I think Cassandra is not a bad choice, but prefer softened Leliana (Cassandra still assists the Divine via Exalted Council), with Cassandra focusing on rebuilding the Seekers (which I think may be important later). Vivienne... no. She's likable as a character, but there are too many things we disagree on (or she disagrees with my characters, even if they're friends).

I still find it hilarious that the most controversial choice of them all is the most conservative one, which sometimes tempts me to create a world-state with her as a Divine, but at this point in the story she seems to be better off in position with less power (that is, maintaining the rebuilt Circle of Magi - which she will always do, anyhow).

Catching up to the thread (I went over and hung out at the Cassandra thread for a bit, nice folks!)

Let's see...

FMA is awesome. Those who have watched it are awesome. Watch the original first though and then Brotherhood!

Small doses of positivity needed. We have to keep up with our doses guys, Solas sucks the hope out of people too fast.

Talking about naming Lavellan's crossbow arm Solas makes me realize how creepy Bianca being called Bianca is. She's not dead Varric.

I will ship Velanna and Nathaniel forever *_*

Okay, Broodmothers in Frostbite would be cool and-- Andraste's sword! Alistair and Broo-- ew, just no.

Shale is with my Warden... duh! :P

Seeing Sten the Arishok again would be sad, especially if you're playing a new character who never had that bond with him.

Ah, the mysteries of Mythal. Whatever happens I'm sure she'll have a hand in it.
Ugh, He-Whom-I-Despise. Ironically none of my main Hawke's killed him. Perhaps he'll show up in Tevinter (as a dead body with Justice in control if you killed him) and give me another chance to roleplay a character that will end him.
The males in this series don't age well. Zevran was "aaaaah, no you aren't mi amor!!" and Teagan was... aged. Leliana however, remains the pinnacle of mature beauty and Morrigan is ravishing as always.
I like kittens
Softened Leliana is the best option for Divine in my most humble opinion. I always have liked her better softened too.

I don't think it's strictly the idealism of soft!Leliana that some people have a problem with. It's the overall consequences of immediately overhauling the culture and political message of a practically omnipresent religion. Opening the priesthood for other races, declaring that the Divine can totally have a lover, and dismantling both the Circle and the Templar order (that last one is more on the Templars themselves) has a very high chance of having negative consequences for the common people of Thedas. Revolution of any kind can be bloody. The fact that Leliana doesn't even offer any solution to issues like training mages, preventing damage from abominations, integrating "old guard" Chantry priests with "new guard" elven and dwarven priests, and new rights for elves/dwarves is alarming at best.

Not that the "no Circle" thing actually sticks in Trespasser, but it's the idealism without solutions that causes problems if you're the Thedas pope.

Seeing that was the moment my Lavellan started to have this really big suspicion that Solas wasn't just an ancient elf like Abelas. This is also why I will probably never forgive the words she later said when I picked the heart option at the final push to find Solas in Trespasser. <_<

... Actually, Vivienne coronation for Divine seems to be far more bloodier than softened Leliana ever was, despite her doing everything to restore the previous system.

The Mages aren't also left alone - they either stay with Inquisition or organize the College of Enchanters. The College itself in fact, is now cannon to every world state in fact, so they do indeed want to organize themselves and fast.

I wouldn't read too much into the visual and spell effects.  They're usually just an indicator for us as players (glowy Anders = possessed), and they can be inconsistent.  I don't remember Uldred and his abominations glowing back in DA:O.  Abelas's can eyes glow during the Well of Sorrows sequence, and I'm pretty sure he's not an abomination.  Meredith's eyes glow too, red from the lyrium.  I think it's a (somewhat sloppy) visual shorthand for magical power, not for possession.

I haven't caught up so I don't know if anyone's added this yet, but the Inquisitor's eyes glow when activating the Anchor in its final stage. Full-on creepy Fade green, no less. Though that may have only been when it was at the third tier of Focus and was about to go off on its own if I didn't use it right then and there.

I think glowy eyes just means channeling a ton of power in general.

That bit did make her sound a little dense, especially since I'd always headcanoned her as slowly putting the pieces together, first that he was an ancient elf, and then slowly realizing he is Fen'Harel. She's definitely not naive enough to think he left to stop the qunari. It was a bit of a facepalm moment. Perhaps the anchor hurt to much for her to think clearly? lol

I think mine had some quiet, internal suspicions that she kind of pushed down, but seeing that, yeah, she would've put it together.

I can forgive the heart option line as something said in a bluster of emotion but it can totally be read as incongruent.

I suspect it means channeling a lot of fade/spiritual power, not necessarily just magic. That would explain why Anders has glowy eyes when he is taken over by Justice and maybe why Solas's eyes glow now that he got some sort of spirit (probably) power from Flemythal. Quizy's eyes would glow because their body is pulsing with magic directly from the fade because of their mark.

I'm going to go with the idea that the realization was so overwhelming to her that she wanted to hear it from his mouth first, and not alert the others until she knew for certain. So she acted just a little dumb about the whole thing, and that's why Cole approved. :P

Not the most shining moment of her intelligence if taken at its face value.

I guess you can kinda interpret the heart dialogue as Lavellan shamelessly trying to protect him and justifying to the group why he needs to be saved. Nobody's really buying it, but hey.  ;)

But yeah that was the moment I figure all Lavellan's would have made the connection, if they hadn't already.
