There's also the threads upset about the lack of female desire demons in DAI! I've been arguing in that one.

It can get ugly out there. But there are some fun threads if you are willing to wade through the misogyny to find them!

The last time I left this thread I ran across those desire demon people. The suggestion that maybe there should also be male desire demons was, obviously, dismissed out of hand.  <_<

I think I'll just stay here and avoid the misogyny altogether. Unless I have wine. Wine makes it better.

Also: @maia0407, I have no likes, but there are likes for you in my heart.

I've been trying to work out what it is that some people lack that leads to their utter failure to understand Solas. I don't know anymore, I thought it was a simple case of empathy, I'm not so sure anymore. *shrugs*

Perhaps it is just a simple lack of interest, which is kind of tragic.

I've been trying to convince my sister to play DAI and to romance Solas (it's going well so far*!), and her main problem with Solas was he seemed, off the bat, pretentious and boring. I basically spoiled the whole thing for her and explained his story up and down, and now she thinks he's interesting.

The thing with Solas is because he does come across as a know-it-all (even the way he introduces himself reminds me of Hermione) he'll immediately turn certain people off. To like Solas you have to want to get to know him, to take him outside with you to listen to the banter. You have to want to take all the investigate options and listen to what he says. And for anyone who's turned off by him from the get-go, that's unlikely to happen. From what I've discussed with my friends who've played it, Solas only became interesting for them after he left the Inquisition (main game epilogue and Trespasser).

Now I'm not saying this is down to the writers making a fuckup. Anyone who listens to Solas' full story will admit he's a damn interesting character despite anything else he is, but he takes a bit of work. For some people.

A while ago I mentioned how I now quite like Josie, despite every playthrough I'd ever done before not really noticing her. That was the same thing for me. I didn't listen to her, I took investigate options but didn't fully explore them, and I took the quick route with her personal quest. But then in my latest playthrough I took my time with her, and found myself really liking and appreciating her, whereas beforehand I found her dull and a bit irritating (that's the accent though).

TL;DR: Different horses for different courses.

*If going well means I play the game for her and she chooses what she wants to say. But she's done a few flirts with Solas so that's something!

That's a very very good point. Many people just didn't take the time to get to know Solas due to being put off by him. I initially didn't get to know Isabella in DA2 as her outfit really pushed my buttons. Eventually, I made the effort and liked her a lot for the most part despite her stupid outfit.

My housemate initially thought he was super boring. Now she's halfway through the game and her opinion has shifted more to 'I like the bald one. He says smart things.'

She hasn't finished the game yet (and has somehow managed to avoid spoilers). Man, is she in for a wild ride.

Isabela was another one I took time to appreciate, partially because I wanted to avoid putting her and Fenris in the same team to avoid... specific banters, but it was mostly down to her ridiculous getup. Okay, lady, I get it! You're a slinky sexy pirate! Just put some damn pants on! And Bethany, button up your dress! If I can't be scantly clad, no one can!

Praise be to modders. xD

Yep, her outfit was just so cliched. I was really disappointed in BW. I get tired of hearing the whole justification that "She was written to be sex obsessed and her outfit reflects that!" I can't help but ask why was this character trait so important to put in yet another game? It's been done to death. It's not original and BW didn't put a unique twist on it. She was primarily there as eye candy and I was really put off by that. It took me awhile to get to know her due to how she was designed.

Or when people are like "She's confident and empowered, that's why she chose to dress that way!" as if she were a real person capable of making independent choices and not a character created and designed by a bunch of dudes in an office... that's a good one.

Gotta' wonder if a woman had any input into her character design. She didn't come off as empowered to me at all. She looked like a typical male fantasy that we see in countless video games, comics, etc. Usually, Bioware is good at avoiding those cliches but they failed in her case. DAI was a major improvement in how women were portrayed though. There's a reason I play mostly Bioware games (and Bethesda) and avoid the rest!

With regards to the poll about the Inquisitor returning or not, I wouldn't worry about it too much for those who want the Inq to return and for those who don't.  A lot of people wanted the HoF back for DA2 and they didn't get it.  Granted, DA2 did not do as well as DAO but that was for other reasons.  I was one who really wanted the HoF to return and whilst I was disappointed we had a new protagonist, it didn't stop me from enjoying DA2, despite all of its faults.

I trust BioWare to do what's best for the story.  If that means the Inquisitor returning as the protagonist then I will be super happy.  If it means a totally new protagonist, I trust the writers to make a fun and enjoyable story and for it to make sense why the Inquisitor doesn't return.  However, neither DAO nor DA2 had the same ending setup as DAI so should there be a new protagonist I would expect them to have some connection to the Inquisitor.

Regardless, I plan to play the next game just to find out what the heck is going on lol.

While I would love for the Inq to return, I won't be upset if we get a new protagonist. We'll get to see the conclusion of Lavellan and Solas' romance regardless of whether or not we have a new protagonist. I'm confident that BW will figure out a way to handle this especially since the characters are in Weekes' hands.

At any rate, I imagine by the time DA4 comes out, I'll be even less attached to the idea of the Inky as protagonist just due to the time that has passed.

ETA: lol, Of course, when my new favorite, and final cannon, Lavellan gets her heart crushed I'll probably come back in here with a major change of tune. I'll be all "Waaahh! There's no way DA4 can exist without Inqy as protagonist!" I'll try not to throw myself on the ground and have a temper tantrum in the blanket fort though.

Well, the whole Inquisitor/Dual Protagonist/Cameo thing is splitting the Inquisitor vote, but seems most people in that poll do want to see the Quizzy back in some form, so I guess that's comforting for those who want to see more of the character. I think there's a good chance, we may get something, in some form. But of course anything could happen.

I wonder what earth shattering event's going to catalyze DA4 though. We've already had a blight, then the Chantry explosion, then the Breach.

Hm.

Well whatever it is, I'll be happy so long as it involves a slave rebellion, Solas, and

I have to admit, I belong to the group of people who wants a new protagonist for the next game. I have really enjoyed making new characters each game and role-playing them differently. That being said, I do think the Inquisitor should be there if there is a confrontation with Solas. Perhaps the best way to do it would be to allow us to play our Inquisitor for portions of the game, kinda like how we could control the Warden's companions when the Warden is rescued from Fort Drakon in DA:O.

I admit I would be a bit upset if we only got a resolution to Solavellan off-screen.  <_<

I'm against the idea of dual protagonists. I've never enjoyed it in previous games I've played and always found it a bit disconcerting. I get used to and attached to the character I'm playing at that moment and then suddenly it swaps. Nah. Gimme Inquisitor or gimme newbie.

I know! If we must have them in their sleazy form, then I support both male and female desire demons. But honestly, a sleazy ass male desire demon sliding up to me rubbing on himself would represent 'creepay demon to me' NOT desire. I think there's a better way to represent desire and they are on the right track with Imshael giving 'desired' choices through conversation rather than representing desire through appearance.

By the way, I am not sure if someone else has already pointed this out, but he really looks like the Lex Luthor (played by Michael Rosenbaum) from the tv series Smallville. I have been thinking for a long time now that he reminds me of someone, but now I've got it.
