You're right, they shouldn't.

I fundamentally believe it's wrong to hurt animals, and I once dated someone who fundamentally didn't agree, and liked to tell me about how she used to glue birds' feet to branches so they starved to death, or put mice in little boxes with rocks and broken glass and shook it till it was crushed to death. We still "loved" each other, so does that cancel out disagreeing on a fundamental issue?

Of course you didn't see it that way, because you were the Hawke in that relationship. If you were the Merrill in that relationship where the Hawke character treated your character the exact same way, I wonder how you'd feel?

*sigh* And now we're antagonizing each other.

I'm sorry, if my reply came out cold, and I'm sorry you had to go through what you did. And you're right, if I was in Merrill's situation, I'd feel terrible and most likely break it off. But that doesn't mean a Hawke on a rivalry path couldn't have just been trying to help someone she still considers a friend to get over something they're probably safer not doing. Disagreeing on whether or not to fix the tainted mirror does not equate to whether or not you agree on animal rights, since the first might actually lead to Merrill's death and more, so you could oppose that with the goal of saving her.

Details matter. Just because you're asking someone to change, as Hawke could be doing here, doesn't mean you're abusing them.

And if you don't want to discuss this further, then I suppose that's all I'll say about it.

Wait, so by that theory do you mean the archdemons are the flesh prisons of the evanuris?

Oh. That makes a horrifying amount of sense.

Wait, but then in the case where Kieran is the OGB wouldn't he have spent a good amount of time trying to stab Solas or something?  If this was the case?

The thing with the Maker - the devs have been very adamant that they will never reveal if he/she/it is real.  They wanted to keep it vague because they want to tell a different story about faith with the Andrastian religion. And I don't think that was a lead or a lie.

I think there is a grain of truth in the legends but this game has hammered the idea that history twists the truth to the point where it's almost unrecognizable.

That's kind of why I actually want BioWare to create a game set in Thedas say, 500-1000 years from the Dragon Age (once this series is over).  It will be really interesting to see how future Thedas twists the events that we actually played through/created.

Well, he does say he's had nightmares when Flemeth takes Urthemiel out of him. So that wisp was aggressive and/or scary. It just wasn't strong enough to take control of him, assuming it was even trying to.

I was wrong.

We've talked before about our love of playing bad in games, Sable. It can be cathartic, fun, and you can see a side to the characters and the story when you're being ruthless, self-serving, or just pragmatic to the point of cruel which is why I think it's important that these games have choices like this.  And I did not think any was undermining someone's disgust in the bad options either.

Evil cackling is extremely cathartic :D

I have a much easier time playing bad in Obsidian Games.  BioWare at least attempts to guilt me into not doing the terrible thing.  But Obsidian practically gift-wraps the black cloak, wicked scheme, and Force Lightning  As long as I recognize that 1) I'm playing a video game 2) the thing I'm doing is horrible and 3) other people may not want to do the same horrible thing, I don't think my actual IRL behavior will suffer.

(maybe I'll cackle a bit more when I GM  ;) )

He also says he feels lonely without it. And I believe what he says was "No more dreams?" He didn't say nightmares.

Perhaps his soul got a good rebirthing, it became clean (like we did to Hakkon in JoH).

It makes me wonder that if the Old God spirit/possible Evanuris fragment has to work within the limits of its container. A baby can't get up and go do crazy axe murder, though a ten year old might - but perhaps waking up in Thedas as it is now, is just as confusing for the Evanuris/Old God spirit as it was for Solas. They're possibly still trying to figure out what to do, because nothing makes sense.

Morrigan does say all the way back in DA:O that she's not interested in the Archdemon, but in the uncorrupted soul of the Old God.  The Dark Ritual clearly cleansed the Blight, otherwise Kieran would be all ghoul-y.  What's to say it didn't alter Urthemiel some other way too?

And meanwhile, the host has been preoccupied with ten-year-old things.  Like how much he hates mushrooms, or the book Mother got him yesterday, or chasing beetles in the summer.  Not very evil at all :D

I'd guess that even in more complicated cases of a spirit sharing a body, the influence is not a one-way street.  Kieran probably impacted Urthemiel too.  Maybe Urthemiel now has a dislike of mushrooms.

No worries. I'm not disagreeing with the theory exactly. Just wondering what that makes/made Kieran.

TBH, I figured that the archdemons were more likely the forgotten ones, who were probably people like Solas, trying to rally against the Evanuris but failed and ended up cast into the blight area/the place the blight comes from by the Evanuris.

I took that to mean it cleansed the taint itself, not and hostility an Evanuris might have towards Solas.

Sorry :( I hate it when equipment messes with my plans

Yesterday a younger lab member went and turned off the machine that was in the middle of running my experiment. It took a month and $$$ to generate these samples. When I saw it I had to take a few deep breaths before I could respond calmly and professionally.

I had only one spare set of samples, since these are really precious and hard to get. I started the experiement with them, then worshipped Dirthamen on the thread and it worked! So, yay, I don't have to work another month, and I'm thinking of setting up a shrine of my own or getting vallaslin or something

Which then makes me wonder... if they are the Evanuris, what happened to the souls from the archdemons destroyed by a warden? Would they end up the same as Mythal, a wisp clawing its way through the centuries? The Evanuris are supposed to be hard to kill, right?

Maybe having their soul destroyed leaves them a lot worse off than if they had simply been "killed", so maybe there is less of them to come back...?

Also, I think the Old Gods are most likely the Forgotten Ones/Evanuris rather than the Pantheon/Evanuris if they are the same thing at all...just my take.
