"Apocalypse boyfriend" is one of the best terms ever coined for Solas. I was also reduced to fits of silly giggling when someone called Bull "50 Shades of Hissrad" in another thread.

I think sleep deprivation is catching up with me.

*bows* Your Welcome

Your words.  I <3 your words

(and the rest of you too :P)

I wonder if there was something... more, between Solas and Mythal.

Think about it. Eternal punishment is a little too extreme and passionate for avenging someone you merely respect.

While Solas does hate the Evanuris for a number of reasons, the only one he found worth mentioning when the Inquisitor asked "How did the elven gods go too far?" was "They killed Mythal".

Oh, I think there was more than just respect, definitely.  In fact, I think Solas and Mythal's relationship was probably similar in many ways to Justinia and Leliana.  A bond that went beyond friendship, but was still platonic.

Well, I'm playing the game again for the first time since Tresspasser and I'm fine. Really.

I think since so much of what he said has changed meaning, I'll replay my Lavellan from the very start again. For the last time, I swear!

Godspeed, lethallan :)  I still can't do it.  I'm having dragon hunting bro time with Bull and Adaar.

"He didn't want a body, but she asked him to come. He left a scar when he burned her off his face."

That reminds me - has anyone done art of Solas with Mythal's vallaslin, just to see what it looks like on him? I've seen that one mod where he's got the chin tattoo, but I want to see him with full tree face.

Thanks, falon  <3

I think connecting my EA account to my husband's PS4 account, so I can use the keep for once, might cause me the most emotional damage

Or at the very least, we can always turn off the game and NOPE away.  Real-life relationships don't work that way.

I'm really drama-allergic IRL.  I'm not a people person to begin with, and drama shuts me down to the point where I don't feel like talking to people.  But apocalypse boyfriend who still dream-stalks me two years after a breakup?  Sign me up :D

Well, let's face it, it's really hard to think of real-life equivalent circumstances of what Solas has been through or wants to do as well  :D Same with Inky, really. Hence I accept the drama also because of those reasons - it's more extreme and intense, because what they've been through is more extreme and intense.

I mean, if Solas acted IRL the same way he acted because of some very mundane reasons we can more relistically find in real life, it might be hard to accept his levels of detachment or melancholy. But after what he's experienced? Good god, dude, you're holding up quite well! I'd be a gooey mess lost somewhere in the deepest pits of Marianas Trench in your spot!

I haven't touched the game since Trespasser but I might finally attempt to make a m!Lavellan and hope he doesn't turn out looking like a potato. I don't think I've ever made a male PC when I've had the choice. I'm also going to make him a mage but not sure what to spec yet.

Other than that, the stray post-Trespasser fic bits have been dribbling out, even though it's not what I want to write.

I just made a m!Lavellan to try something different, and it is amazing how different the game feels. For one thing this particular character is about as old as Solas looks - in his forties - so when he calls him da'len it's really hard not to roll my eyes. Also, I decided to try out the aggressive options for a lot of the responses, and while it fits the character, they are so hilariously hard-ass. I always play diplomatic or sarcastic, so I feel like I'm getting to see a whole other world.

Des Lavellan -

Spoiler

I like him a lot, and I might just play him all the way through, so I can have a character who actually wants to kill Solas.

My absolute favorite hard-ass response is the one to get Cullen to stop lyrium. My Lavellan was all sweet and supportive. My Adaar gave him a hard-ass pep talk worthy of Renegade Shep :P

I usually play a mix of top two options and never choose the angry ones so that could be fun, but it's not really who I'm looking to play. I haven't quite decided on age yet but he's destined to make one Seeker blush. Not going to make a jerkball for Cass.

I thought all the Cullen scenes were great....but I did feel they just weren't awkward enough in the beginning.

I mean, here was my Dalish apostate mage from the wilderness of the Free Marches talking to an ex-Templar who dealt with Kirkwall.

Pretty sure all early conversations between my Lavellan and Cullen must have looked like this from afar

This. Perhaps even close to how Alistair viewed Duncan, I think Solas is a bit naive to how terrible Mythal can be if she wants.

Now imagine just how awkward it would be if Lavellan decided to bond with him and had to explain it to their keeper.

Keeper: So let me get this straight, not only did you decide to bond with a human, but a templer. A man who thinks that me and others with magic should be locked up in cages. To be kept under watch by an institution that hates us. Not only that, he is from Kirkwall and he was the Knight Captain there when mages were systematically raped and abused. Am I missing something here, da'len? Tell me, do you share this shem's opinion that I should be locked up? (bonus points if you headcannon that the keeper is Lavellan's parent)

For my headcannon, its even more awkward since one of the mages there was a runaway mage from Kirkwall and he walks up to Cullen and is all like "I remember you, you're a d**k."

You know, I had to chuckle a bit even though the mood was serious, when Solas said that the Evanuris had to be banished because they killed Mythal...

All I could think was "Man, y'all hold grudges for a really long time!"

True, but at least he's an elf and there is no one in the clan that met him and remembers him personally. At least if he met the clan for the first time and they didn't know he was the dread wolf then the introduction would have gone smoothly. Lavellan would be thinking, "I'll let them meet him first, then I'll tell everyone that he's our god of misfortune."

Seriouslly, Lavellan doesn't really have anyone she can take to meet her clan without any proublems. Josie is nice and respectful of the dalish, but she is still a shem, which is the same with Blackwall but he doesn't know any elven words to say to them. Also, him use to being part of the orlesian army would not go down well with them. Sera is an elf but she would instantly be a b**** to them so she would loose all browny points. Cassandra is pretty much the Chantry on display and Dorain is a proud vint. Really, the only person who would sit remotely well with them is Iron Bull. Iron Bull is the closest thing Lavellan's family will approve of.

I think Cullen was for the most part pretty determined to leave his templar life behind, which is why I imagine it's actually not too awkward to be his friend/lover as a mage. He saw the value in the order, certainly, and still identifies a part of himself with it - I think Josie or Cassandra mentions he takes its faults pretty personally, and still sees himself tied to that in some way - but most of his arc in DA:I was about moving on from that - hence, his decision to about quit lyrium. So I could imagine by the end of the game it wouldn't be too big a deal, really.

Edit: I think the dalish elf thing is probably more of an issue - tbh I'd struggle to RP a dalish character who was 100% committed to staying with their clan also dating a human. DA:I gives you plenty of reasons to leave that behind - your clan may die, or you may lose faith in your gods for plenty of valid reasons, or your distrust in human society may be proven wrong, so it's not like lavellans can't reasonably date anyone else (hell no, that's definitely not what I'm saying). It's just more difficult to get your head around it if you stay loyal. I imagine your clan at some point will have looked for long-term matches within their own clan or another in order to simply keep their numbers up - there's pressure not to romance anyone, I think, because reproduction is viewed as a necessity in order to keep their way of life alive.

Actually, I can think of a funnier way to reveal this.

(Deshanna learns of Lavellan's vallaslin removal as well as many things that may not have been to her liking): "Has the Dread Wolf taken you, child!?"

Lavellan: (turns red and avoids her Keeper's eyes) "...... Actually, he did."

Deshanna: "!!!"

... I have to admit, the more I think about it, the more I have to laugh about the whole "What was that old Dalish curse? May the Dread Wolf take you?" thing used on romanced Lavellan. Like, I kinda miss the option more pronounced than "Yes, ironically", where she's just shooting knives at him with her eyes and be all like "Really, Solas? You went THERE, knowing history between us??? You... just couldn't help yourself, did you!? *pouts*"

I wish there was an option where they laugh like old friends at the absurdity of the situation, Lavellan gives him a hug and says, "Nice one, buddy!"

Re-playing is making me sentimental. I'm grateful for the blanket fort.

I think after Trespasser, what Clan Lavellan approves of is the least of her worries :P

Lavellan has so many weird, insane, apocalyptic problems that all of her normal ones kind of fall by the wayside.

^ This is true.

That said, I think my own Lavellan, who spent so long being devoted to her clan, is a little wary that if she doesn't reveal the truth in a sensitive enough way, they'll call her a disgrace and send her into exile. I can't imagine they were that thrilled about one of their own being made a symbol of the organisation which destroyed the dales in the first place - the dread wolf stuff may simply be too much. The thing she needs most now is emotional support - her family rejecting her during her time of need will not help.

I think it would be difficult for Lavellan to get her clan to deal with any of her romance options. My headcannon view Lavellan's clan as being protective of their own and views any of the humans trying to have a romantic relationship with her as trying to use her. In their minds: elf + elf = happy, healthy relationship, but elf + human = instantly abusive. The human is manipulating Lavellan, they don't really love her. We have to make her/him see the error of their ways and break them up. I doubt any of the humans would be happy about their in laws taking their partner aside and telling them that their love is not real and that shems only view elves as pets not people.  I also see them as using exile as the very last option to one of their own, like used in circumstances where one member betrays or murders one of their clanmates.

As for Solas, I already made some characters for the clan and one of them thinks that Lavellan might give into the Dread Wolf after she tells them everything. Like she can't help herself but compromise everything for him because the dread wolf put her under some kind of spell. I really need to make this into a fanfic, just whole string of Lavellan's interaction with her clanmates and how they deal with her position of being the Inquisitor.

In a way, given my Lavellan's history, this sense kind of helps her feel better in the long run. Not for falling for an elf or a man, but because of the earlier judgment and subtle cultural pressure she felt to settle down and how that made her feel a bit disappointing to her people, especially as the eldest in her family. In spite of herself and all. But all of these revelations about the culture she knew, and of course, knowing more people like her, help her to let certain things go.
