I'm happy to see another... "non-traditional" appearing Lavellan in the group. :D Mine is no great beauty, but besides that also has a broken nose and a honking ugly scar and it is perfection for who she is. Though she is a bit more on the motherly side. Just, you know, the sort of mother whose young you don't threaten else she'll end you.

As my personal favorite elf once put it... go team, hurrah!  :D

Alley is protective as hell of the whole group, albeit not in a motherly way. She's especially protective of the mages, because of the little half-brother she lost. Unbeknownst to her until later in the DAI timeline, her little Erynion Tabris was put down in the records (and raised as) Tannusen Surana... who also came to be known as the Hero of Ferelden. (Veilfire Bones takes place in the same universe as Silver and Scarlet, which is my smut-filled Warden series ft. Tannu.)

So anyway, she failed to protect him... templars came and got him when he was a young spark. She failed Adaia, failed Nelaros, failed Shianni... failed the whole Denerim alienage when her mien'harel rebellion against Vaughan (and his entire guard) lead to another purge.

She's a little angsty ball of broken bones and wrecked vocal chords and bitter self-loathing and self-destruction, and she will gut and string up anyone who tries to hurt anyone she considers under her protection, which is the entire Inquisition crew by the end.

And, when it comes time, she'll protect Solas from his own damn self whether he likes it or not.

Them Tabris', man, they have a reputation for being awfully uppity. (No wonder they've apparently been passing down a dagger known as the "Fang of Fen'Harel" since at least the time of the Dales. Makes me wonder if they're descendants from some of the slaves he freed, or something. The dagger's something I need to work into the story at some point, because damn.)

Have another random Alley screenshot since I'm rambling everyone's ears off... eyes out? Hm. Anyway I teal deer at the drop of a hat.

tumblr_nv77xeYUOr1r612o5o3_1280.png

I just enjoy the sheer level of "I'm too old for this ****" in this one. Just... dead-eyed, covered in blood, "this is not my first rodeo".

Alley is like... she's like that older cop in every movie who's so close to retirement, but crap keeps happening. I like to describe her as someone who drinks straight out of the coffee pot. That's her archetype.  :D

Sorry for posting out of turn. Haven't caught up with the thread for the day, but I just played through the Arbor Wilds and took pause on a particular comment. Below may not be an "exact" quote, but it is close:

Abelas - "No boon of Mythal's, has ever been granted without cost."

I think it could be very interesting if this line is not forgotten, by the writers. If it is something to be considered, then it begs the question: What cost will Solas pay, for Mythal's power? The thread has considered the idea of a "compulsion", regarding his taking of her magics (term used, for the lack of a better). However, there is a plethora of possibilities, on what such a price it may be. Any thoughts, or ideas, based on the bits and pieces taken from the games and extended media?

Again, my apologies for tossing this out there, while other conversations are going on. It just struck me, due to finishing that portion of Temple, and I felt the urge to post. ;)

the reason why everyone thinks it's mythal is because of "all new, faded for her" I think. "her" is mythal, and he faded the world and himself for "her" (mythal) to save the elves. multiple times Cole's used "she" he" "her" in dialogue referencing Solas (can't remember examples) and it all seems to be about him and mythal upon later inspection. this quote seems to be following that trend, imo

The part that sticks out for me, though, is the part about burning her off his face. There's a spell for removing vallaslin, and it doesn't leave scars. It sounds like he didn't have that option, for some reason.

People probably can't cast the spell on their own vallaslin, because lol, that would defeat the purpose of putting them on slaves. But if Mythal is so chill, why not just ask her to do it?

He was bare-faced by the time he started removing vallaslin from slaves, based on the murals, and IIRC the slave hideouts started when the evanuris were still wandering the planet. So he probably didn't burn off his vallaslin as a way of grieving Mythal's death, because Mythal was probably alive when his vallaslin were removed. So if she's alive and they're working together, why couldn't she remove them?

My wild speculation is that he belonged to someone else - there are three other goddesses in the pantheon, and at least one of them is canonically horrible. Or he belonged to someone who worshiped one of the goddesses. Then gaining a body (because his owner "asked" him to... Fenris mentions that slaves get to the point where they jump at the chance to please their master, so "she" wouldn't need to make it an explicit command), then removing the marks, then working with Mythal after all that.

Hehe, yes, mentioning the Dalish is bound to end in argument, but it won't be the usual one (I think).

Wow, that's very detailed and they have a large family. Maybe Nehn can come help babysitting. And she'll be so kind and gentle with the baby, and Nirwen will sigh... Yeah, sorry, drifted off into my own daydreams inspired by their story :D

I heard a sweet little song from my childhood that I completely forgot existed when playing a 90s music stream and I've gotten a little inspiration from the mood. It's a nice little fluff song, very simple, but it works somehow. Have to set up a fluffy music playlist on Spotify, I think.

I think I may have more clarity on what I"m doing with this, but you did hit on something I'd like to explore later.

I don't think it drags away from any of the topics discussed. There is after all a connection between Solas and Mythal. At the temple your Quizzy can ask him if he would drink and he emphatically says "No do not ask me again." He fully understands the price to be paid even if he won't tell anyone. As to what he faces about taking Mythal's power at the end of the game, that opens a host of theories and speculations, more now that Trespasser has answered some questions and raised others.

I actually took it to mean that he left a scar on purpose, showing a respect for "her." All that I really find interesting is that Solas once "belonged" to someone else, and in combination with him being the "guardian" of mythal that could have some pretty interesting implications.

I was sad at the thought of Lavellan losing Skyhold.  But with everyone moving on, it *was* going to get very big and lonely there.  Better for her to move to Wycome to be with her family and Clan.

I didn't disband, so the Inquisition still exists, though somewhat smaller and as a peacekeeping force under Divine Victoria (in my case, Leliana), but there's nothing to insist that the location must definitely change, so I still headcanon they're still operating out of there.

Lavellan: You fall asleep in ancient ruins? Isn’t that dangerous?
Solas: We don't know where this is going now. But I'm feeling love for you. (Take you High, Kelly Clarkson)  (I laughed my @** off at this one I didn't even know I had this song in my play list)

Lavellan: Something wrong with your tea?
Solas: Well you only need the light when it's burning low. (Let her Go, Passenger)

Solas: I am grim and fatalistic. Getting you into bed is just an enjoyable side benefit.
Lavellan: Dry lightning cracks across the skies. Those storm clouds gather in her eyes. (Blown Away Carrie Underwood)

Solas: No matter what happens next, I want you to know that what we had was real.
Lavellan: Hold on to me now. You know I can't stay long (Well S***!) (My last Breath Evanesence)

Solas: I suspect you have questions.
Lavellan: You call to me and I fall at your feet. How could anyone ask for more? (Trying Not to Love You, Nickleback)

Lavellan: Solas, var lath vir suledin!

Solas: I was blown away what could I say. It all seemed to make sense. (It's Not Over, Daughtry)

Ah, I suspected I wasn't the only one with a Pandora station for Solas. At first the recommendations just matched the seed genres, like usual. But then all of a sudden they started becoming more and more spot-on. As in, wtf I seeded this station with songs about revolution and longing for the past... how did it know to give me tons of tracks about wolves?!?

It must be all you other folks training the recommendation algorithm. ;)

Woah that looks epic! The animation is a very interesting style too, I liked the look of the Pride demon a lot!

Is it the same voice actor for Cassandra?

Nope, different voice.

Once again I'm jealous people have all these awesome dreams. I hardly ever dream. My latest DA-related dream was probably just a dream about me going on a safari, because I dreamt I saw a wolf fighting a lion. Solas avoids my dreams :(

I had a "must go find Solas" dream one time. And some other DA related dreams I can't quite recall, that had something to do with Solas. And when I played Origins, I had some creepy Blight and lots of red dreams and I think maybe red lyrium crept in at some point in a later one.

I had a dream where I got my hair done by a beauty spirit and went up to solas bragging about how great my hair was and how it sucks he's bald. he got really pissed and glared at me and then walked away.

and then another time I had a dream where ancient elves were interrogating me about whether or not I was "worthy." it was so weird. they were like "WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ON IMMORTALITY" and I was like "pretty nice I guess" and they were like "PPFTT MORTAL HUMAN. YOU COULD NEVER UNDERSTAND." It was really weird and I felt slightly harassed afterwords =3=

(everybody's dreams are cooler than mine. I wanna have a must go find solas dream ;-; )

... Um, which is why I and other people mentioned the possibility of double protagonists. Like you said, there's no need for Inky to be the main protag in DA4, but to give a meaningful conclusion to what they were set out to do, they have to be somewhat more involved into it in a way that goes beyond 'a small cameo'.

Yeah i wonder how they could implement this. If they do the inquisitor like they did with cullen, leiliana, and josphine. obviously the inquisitor would have to be around more/ more cutscenes and given what we exported the inquisitors reactions towards solas.

As usual, we have long since moved on from this conversation, but after replaying Trespasser (again...) I feel like we all might be onto something with the whole 'DA4 protagonist is one of Quizzy's agents' thing. In that little post-game map-stabbing scene after Leliana says that Solas knows everything about you, Quizzy replies with 'Then we'll find people he doesn't know.'

We could be those people, y'all.

Lavellan: You fall asleep in ancient ruins? Isn’t that dangerous?
Solas: I can move mountains, I can work a miracle. (Fall Out Boy- Uma Thurman)

Lavellan: Something wrong with your tea?
Solas: Boom boom boom clap! (Boom Clap - Charli XCX)

Solas: I am grim and fatalistic. Getting you into bed is just an enjoyable side benefit.
Lavellan: Let's Marvin Gaye and get it on! (Marvin Gaye - Charlie Puth)

Solas: No matter what happens next, I want you to know that what we had was real.
Lavellan: I thought that I've been hurt before, but no one's ever left me quite this sore. (Stitches - Shawn Mendes)

Solas: I suspect you have questions.
Lavellan: Get on my elevator, baby we're going up. (Levels - Nick Jonas) (Why is my Lavellan so thirsty? My gosh  )

Lavellan: Solas, var lath vir suledin!
Solas:  You're the light, you're the night, you're the color of my blood. (Love Me Like You Do - Ellie Goulding)

It just struck me, due to finishing that portion of Temple, and I felt the urge to post. ;)

I don't know about compulsion, but I think it may only be a matter of time before he loses the power.  Either in using it (creating the veil sapped him to begin with, dropping it may do the same) or if it's taken back from him at some point (Mythal's essence is still out there).  For the most part, he only has her power now because her goals overlap with his own.  On the "compulsion" side of things, I'm still wondering how things might go for Well drinkers.  Which might make for an additional argument for a new protag, if an Ex/Quizzy who drank from the Well might not be able to resist Solas at all after a certain point.

I came up with a meme. Rules are below.

You need either a playlist with at least 20 songs in it set on shuffle, a pandora radio, an automatically generated youtube playlist, or any other way to get random or semi-random songs to play.

Hit the "next" button to get the next random song to play. Then take the first 1-2 lines of the lyrics and use them to fill the blank dialogue line.

Repeat this process for each blank line.

You can skip a song up to two times for each dialogue line if you really don't like the lyrics. But once you decide to skip a song you can't go back (i.e. you can't pick and choose the best one between your two or three tries, it has to be the last one).

Hope you find this fun! Everyone here listens to such different music so I'm really curious of the results!.

Here's mine.

Wow, some of these worked well.
