Just a question :

So we know Solas is strictly into elves because it made super-sense story-wise. But...why?

I kind of get what they mean, but Solas does not held the Dalish in more esteem than he does the Humans, Dwarves and Qunari...He pretty much puts them in the same bag of "shemlen" who become "people" only because he falls in love or comes to really appreciate Quizzie. So if elves and in particular Dalish are not "his people", not "the People", the ones he wants to save and sacrifice everything for...why does he only fall in love with an Elf?

As I said, I still kind of get it, Solas being very paradoxical anyway (see:the difference between the way he talks about "us" to Sera and "you" to Lavellan). But I still find interesting that even though he rejects modern elves, he only dates them and no one else

I believe it's more that he's into spirits, and elves have a deeper spiritual connection. also the whole "I'm a bigoted ancient elf and elves are the best" thing he has going on.

sooo yeah. hope that makes sense?

Also this guy is really not helping my need for them to announce DA4. I would pretty much have to argue with him on all points.  Dragon Age is THE GAME that I wait for. There just aren't a lot of story based games/RPGs out there right now with a similar game style.

I have to stop reading this because this guy is making me sad. Sad in my soul.

Also: Why is he so committed to the idea that DA is a trilogy? Is that a thing?

I had to tell myself that he's just out of touch with reality.  I mean who would really vote for Dark Souls?

Now that I think about it, how did Solas know that the inquisitor wouldn't die? If the qunari plot didn't show up right in time, by what other coverup could he have swooped in to save the day?

If there wasn't any other reason/excuse for him to manipulate into meeting her, would he have let her die?

Ugh I can't handle these questions. Too sad.

Saving the inquisitor is important, even if he loathes them, due to the chaos that would result if they died. Doubly so if he likes or loves them. So he probably planned it out.

He says "the Qunari spies in the Inquisition tripped over my spies in the Inquisition", and we assume he means this happened in the past few days. But it's not unlikely that his spies have been tracking Qunari activity for months.

It would be easy enough to hassle them so their plan gets accelerated. If someone's messing with your plan, you've got to finish it fast or it might collapse completely. "This agent of Fen'Harel has disrupted everything."

I came up with a meme. Rules are below.

[spoiler]

You need either a playlist with at least 20 songs in it set on shuffle, a pandora radio, an automatically generated youtube playlist, or any other way to get random or semi-random songs to play.

Hit the "next" button to get the next random song to play. Then take the first 1-2 lines of the lyrics and use them to fill the blank dialogue line.

Repeat this process for each blank line.

You can skip a song up to two times for each dialogue line if you really don't like the lyrics. But once you decide to skip a song you can't go back (i.e. you can't pick and choose the best one between your two or three tries, it has to be the last one).

Hope you find this fun! Everyone here listens to such different music so I'm really curious of the results!.

Lavellan: You fall asleep in ancient ruins? Isn’t that dangerous?
Solas: Do you spend your days counting the hours you're awake? And when night covers the skies you find yourself doing the same.
(Injection - Rise Against)

Lavellan: Something wrong with your tea?
Solas: I backed my car into a cop car the other day. Well, he just drove off sometimes life's OK.
(Float On - Modest Mouse)

Solas: I am grim and fatalistic. Getting you into bed is just an enjoyable side benefit.
Lavellan: Working hard to get it on for you. Everyday and night.
(Loving You Sunday Morning - Scorpions)

Solas: No matter what happens next, I want you to know that what we had was real.
Lavellan: Come ride with me through the veins of history. I'll show you a god who falls asleep on the job
(Knights of Cydonia - Muse)

Solas: I suspect you have questions.
Lavellan: Jungle life I'm far away from nowhere. On my own like Tarzan Boy.
(Tarzan Boy - Baltimora once you skip all the ohs)

Lavellan: Solas, var lath vir suledin!

Solas: Come single guy and gal unto me pay attention Don't ever fall in love It's the devil's own invention.

(Captain Kelly's Kitchen - Dropkick Murphys)

Haha. The Dark Souls thing did kind of explain the rest of it. I couldn't help but think 'Oh, he's one of those...'

Sorry to anyone who likes Dark Souls, but... you know...

The Inquisitor was supposed to be a human and it only changed about year before release. Who knows when party banter was actually written. Some of it must have been ready before they allowed Inky to be an elf.

I mean, he still says "the return of my people means the end of yours" in Trespasser, so he has multiple concepts of "our people" even for an elven inquisitor. Sort of like IRL, where "our team" can mean either "our city's team" when referring to national-level sports, but it means "our country's team" when referring to something like the Olympics. The scope becomes broader or narrower depending on the context.

I think so too. I am more attached to my Lavellan than any other BioWare protagonist. When Abelas yelled to Lavellan that she is not his people, it actually hurt. My first Inky was human, but at that time it was just piece of dialogue.

I ALSO ALWAYS WONDERED HOW SHE ENDED UP IN HER OWN ROOM AFTER HAVEN DREAM XD sorry.. I had to scream XD

One of the non-romance dialogue choices has him tel you that you found him there. So you were already asleep and dreaming and were able to go locate him to talk. He just helped by changing the scenery. :)

Okay...I took a weekend to relax and keep reading WoT2...it's remarkably hard with a toddler. I came back this morning and there is almost 50 new pages...anything worth going back to read again?

He's like to me at least doesn't know anything about the game lore, one of those people who goes and does stuff to be the hero in the end but with no sense to how the world around him changed, like he was not into characters at all no feels no nothing. That makes me sad really Dragon Age is a game that for me will always have a place in my heart and i wish it will never end :)

That was an odd read. The article really didn't have much to it other than "I like DAO and Dark Souls. DAI shouldn't have gotten GOTY. Dark Souls should have won. I really like DAO and they should make another game like DAO. Dark Souls." Seriously, it read like he had never played DAI. He didn't even seem to realize that the story isn't finished. Eh, whatever.

Right, the qunari hadn't just begun their plot. Neither had Solas. He had likely been keeping tabs on you for quite some time. Since after he left or maybe he even planted agents before then. He knew the Anchor had been acting up and becoming painful.

That is true.

Maybe I should just slip in the Fade so I don't write anymore stupid things.

And you sort of look slightly like them, you'll do for flirting, non-person.   He starts to see something in you that sort of reminds him of his people. Well he says deepest journeys into the Fade on the balcony scene, but we know what he means. And then it becomes, 'oh crap, what have I done?' if you're romancing him.

There is something that I don't understand in regards to the fade and the veil. Did the fade only exist in Thedas or did it stretch throughout the entire globe? Did Solas only put up the Veil in the Thedas area or the entire globe? I am just wondering about how the humans lived when the fade and the physical world were combined.

Definitely brewing for a while. Heat of the moment likely brought it out but it seems possible/likely that he had already been infatuated, casually, then Fade kiss, then oh, wait, she likes me too....ugh what is this, I can't do this....but I want to......probably went up there after being unable to deny it to himself any longer and then he had second thoughts.

And from this, hope for the future.

'I love you' on a first date? We've got a stage-five clinger.

But more seriously, I figure it depends on where you think his realisation of her 'people-hood' fell. From a lot of his comments (especially those about her grace/indomitable focus) it seems like it may fall a lot earlier in the game than a lot of people seem to be thinking. Romances or not, if you've proven yourself to be resourceful and thoughtful, you'll have his respect and admiration. It's not too crazy to assume that by the time you reach Skyhold he's already crushing on Quizzy a little.

Well, he also tells liked/romanced Inquisitors that "drawing them here gave them a chance to save them".. Which makes me wonder whether there was something about that location or time that helped him save the Inquisitor?

Plus, who other than Solas left all those eluvians open to reach him? We do know from Morrigan that opening one requires either specific key (like one to Daarvarad) or power.

We see at the beginning of the last scene that the eluvian leading to the location we meet him shuts right after Inquisitor, preventing others to enter. He rather obviously staged it all, or used everything to his advantage.... and like I said some time ago - he must've not been worried about the Qunari stopping Inky at all. Quite some confidence in the Inky team there, especially with all the mutated Saarebas, poisonous dragon, gaatlok to explode a mountain and exploding hand itself.

I always figured that he starts falling hard for her early.  He talks about in the fade scene(I think) how he sat with her for days watching the mark. I figure the intrigue starts there and he's always liked things that are a puzzle.  I think from there it's gradual with everything you do and he's probably already feeling it by the fade kiss, just fighting himself on it.  Then he spends (probably months) before the balcony scene reliving that kiss and watching everything you do.  Falling deeper and deeper.  He even acknowledges in that scene it would be easier if he didn't continue.  I think that has so many meanings for how things will be easier, including but not limited to the fact that if he actually kisses you he knows he'll be admitting the fact that he loves you and that makes things hard.

Spoiler

Ok, I shuffled my complete collection for maximum randomness (I'm somewhat of a music hoarder). Things got weird!

Lavellan: You fall asleep in ancient ruins? Isn’t that dangerous?
Solas: If there's a time when the tears should fill your eyes, and you can't see past the shadows to the sun on the other side, don't despair.

Lavellan: Something wrong with your tea?
Solas: You're on your phone with your girlfriend, she's upset, she's going off about something that you said.

Solas: I am grim and fatalistic. Getting you into bed is just an enjoyable side benefit.
Lavellan: Two feet they come a creepin', like a black cat do, and two bodies are layin' naked, a creeper think he got nothin' to lose.  :o

Solas: No matter what happens next, I want you to know that what we had was real.
Lavellan: There's no need to argue anymore. I gave all I could, but it left me so sore. And the thing that makes me mad, as the one thing that I had, I knew, I knew, I'd lose you.  :crying:

Solas: I suspect you have questions.
Lavellan: I don't care what my teachers say, I'm gonna be a supermodel.   :D

Lavellan: Solas, var lath vir suledin!
Solas: Don't want your love anymore, don't want your kisses, that's for sure
