Aneth ara, lethallan. Have a welcoming hug! (And another cookie  )

If I get to play Dirthamen in DA4, I'll kneel in front of BioWare HQ, cry warm happy tears, and scream THANK YOU, WEEKES AND LAIDLAW!!! until security drags me away.

Thank you! I am really done with all the despair of the Solasmance since that break-up in the swamp! As great as that story is I am not playing video games to hurt that much and that long. I remember the fealing I had after playing ME2 - being drunk on exhilaration and awe with a positive expectation for the coming game (not the fear for a small cameo like I have now). A well, bring on the awsome and let's imagine a DA4 of our wildest dreams! Get me more of those cookies!

I'm not good at writing but I do come up with many ideas.

Yes, of course you can use it! :)

Thanks!!! Do you have an AO3 account or tumblr or anything else I can use to acknowledge you?

Go you! I still hurt sometimes, but that's why we have the blanket fort.

I like you, have some of the good cookies!

I don't think a dual protagonist would work at all, that would totally ruin the game for me actually.

... And cutting away or postponing what has been established in DAI somehow doesn't ruin the game? Dragon Age is not TES - it naturally follows what has been established in previous games.

DA4 would be a good opportunity to give a fleshed out Tevinter perspective, although it would also be a good opportunity to have a disabled character being important to the story as well. At the end of Trespasser one of the dialogue options even has the inky saying 'my adventuring days are over'...but then in the last scene they're pictured in Haven with Leliana and Cassandra making future plans. I think perhaps they might serve as an agent like in Inquisition, but I don't think they'll have a very big role in the next game.

The "my adventuring days are over" exists only in one dialogue option - the aggressive one literally has "now excuse me - I have the world to save. Again."

I somehow doubt that Inquisitor's involvement will depend on which dialogue option we choose at the end, or even if we choose to disband or not - not with the last scene being Inky planning a visit in Tevinter and with hints all over the epilogue cards (especially befriended Sera's) that the whole "retirement" is just a ruse to placate public.

I mean, it is implied by the ending itself that Tevinter becomes important for Inquisitor in plans to stop Solas - that itself makes them important, and I can't see how they'd scale down their involvement without it feeling cheap, if we only end up with a cameo or worse - a chain of letters or proxies.

I don't think Solas' and the Inquisitor's story is done but it's pretty hard to see it being a happy ending at this stage. I reckon Bioware might do a cut scene like they did with Hawke, but imo I don't think the romance would ever really work. :( It seems to me like Solas has way more backstory than he's told us about him and Mythal too.

At this point this is not about a happy ending - Trespasser itself strongly implied that it's Inquisitor's job to either try and stop and perhaps kill Solas or try and redeem him. They wouldn't be using words as strong as that if they didn't have something planned for Inky... maybe not as much as they have for Solas, but certainly more than "just a previous protagonist". Trespasser effectively gave them a new purpose.

Dirthy. I will call him Dirthy from now on! You're a genius!

Eviebot gave me that one, IIRC.

Dirthy Baby, Dirthy Baby, Dirty Baby

So now I think of him as a big dirty baby.

I think he'd be a physicist, more inclined to study theoretical things that have to do with the fundamental laws of the Universe or something.

Or maybe economics or fiannce, how people and markets function, how you can manipulate them.

I somehow think biology would be too practical and empirical of a science for him. I see him more coming up with obscure theoretical physics equations in his sleep rather than pulling 12-hour days in the lab. Also his view of how to deal with "non-people" are a little unethical to be doing research on living things.

Stay out of my field, Solas!

I think he'd be some flavor of physicist, as well. He's extremely concerned with the fundamental laws and nature of reality vs the Fade, how to bend both to his will, and insistent that all things have an inherent nature that is unchangeable. Also, he loves playing with electricity and barriers almost exclusively if you let him use his default build which implies to me he has a special interest in electromagnetism and electromagnetic fields. What is the Veil? A wavelength that repels the Fade.

I like that reasoning! And I didn't know his default build was electricity. That's actually nice to know!

That may actually be beneficial, especially if the blood type is  O- or AB+. Universal donor blood or a really rare blood type. I'd fill buckets and get it to the (blood) bank!

I like how you think. :P This is a good idea for a plague.

It would make me feel worse about probably not being able to donate blood if I were O- instead of +.

Wait, what did we Edmontonians do to deserve cursing?? Do I need to hide in a bunker somewhere?

I think these are just pre-emptive plans for if BW screws up in resolving Solavellan. We must be prepared. But I like the combined power of Shari'El & Frank for the best plague.

Hmm, that's odd. I've never autoleveled anyone. But since he comes by default with cold spells, I think of him as the Winter guy. Dorian for me is electricity. And Viv was fire.

This is how I always saw them (and build them before they get their specs):

Solas - Spirit

Dorian - Fire

Viv - Winter

My Lavellan - Electricity

Weirdly enough, for me Viv has always been cold spells and Dorian is either fire or electricity depending on playthroughs :P Solas has been spirit mixed with either electricity or cold every single time.

Both Dorian and Solas wound up with Spirit trees too. Useful since I hardly used Vivienne and Dorian was clearly around for Trespasser. I stripped Solas of his barrier+ gear before he left and gave it to BFFmage.

I play on low or normal difficulty and take advantage of that to go around some areas with all four mages. I love my Mage Army of Awesome. Plus the banter is 100% snark.

Solas always struck me as a fire mage, actually - I always thought he was kindling a flame in his first tarot card. As cliché as it is to say, underneath the cool, rational surface, I think he's motivated a lot by fiery passion, by emotion.

Viv already had ice covered - I mean, she literally uses Winter's Frost at a party to shut up a hater, and Dorian definitely strikes me as a lightning kind of guy (I think Varric nicknames him Sparkler, even?).

In reality I always fully spec my mages with the spirit tree, and put all remaining points in whatever my PC mage doesn't have. Solas usually gets lumped with Winter, because I always hog all the fire spells myself.

I'd like Skyhold to be left open for the former members of the Inquisition who have no home to go back to, for whatever reason, while my girl goes off and saves the world. Again.

I couldn't resist a modern Solvellan

Spoiler

 That's...actually fairly close to how my SO and I dress.

Yes, he starts with spirit, ice, and electricity but by the end of the game his bar is like 3 electric, 2 (or 3) spirit (including barrier), 1 (or 2) rift magic, 1 ice

I can't remember if I switched anything around on this save, but I'm pretty sure this is his base build here at lvl 21:

Spoiler

Edit: Although I do have another save of him at lvl 18 on another character and he has Veilstrike instead of Mindblast, so one of those is probably right. :P I'm very lazy and just do the defaults until everyone has three bars of Focus and then I switch something out for that ability. Hmm, you know what, I'm thinking that the one where he has Veilstrike might be more accurate. Now I feel like I should go play one of my other characters and auto level him again just to know for sure.

I always spec out my mages with all the talents in the Spirit tree (except Revival, as a self-imposed challenge), so I can easily swap out Viv, Dorian and Solas as my resident support mage at any given time.

While it limits their damage dealing and forces me to play more defensively, it's still overall better than relying on just one support mage I'm forced to always bring along everywhere... like was so often the case with Wynne and Anders in previous games.

Individually, I like to give Dorian and Solas fire and lightning so they can use them along with their Necro and Rift skills to provide some nice crowd control, while Vivienne is specced in both Ice and a mixture of talents from the other schools to buff her KE skills.

haha, those abilities at the bottom are exaclty how I build my Lavellan, except I make her learn Fade step ASAP and use it extensively :D

she and Solas do overlap a lot in how I build them, but I HC she learns a lot of spirit spells and the Rift mage spec from him.

As of now I cannot say that I look forward to DA4 with gleefull anticipation from all that was given to us in the actual game. I more like dread the developments for Solas and Inky, which keeps me emotionally involved - but at what price? Should I look forward to face a friend of mine in combat? I certainly don't and I cannot enjoy seeing Solas in that position. As a gamer I want so much more than 'just' a good antagonist (and not many good come to mind easily). I want to experience and build worlds, expand my opinions and challenge my prejudices. That is what I love Bioware games for. And that is why I can forgive them for some let-down in the romances (Thanemancer here and oh - Solas!) or less-than-perfect-antagonists (Corysad wasn't so great and noooo - Solas!). I really hope there will be some great story behind the veil - regardless of Inky playing a major role or not.

My party is almost always (unless I'm on a specific quest, like finding those trinkets for Blackwall) two mages, one rogue, and a warrior. The rogue is generally me, and then I split the rest. It worked out in my first DAI playthrough, that most of my favorite companions (Solas, Cassandra, and Dorian) just happened to add up to a full team. And it would have been the case if I could've mushed my other favorite, Cole, in there somehow. Where is my spirit companion summon mod similar to the dog is always present mod for DAO?

Haha, yeah, would've been awesome if we could summon Cole.

When I'm not using the Mage Army of Awesome, my party is usually Solas, Cole, and Blackwall. I like Iron Bull a little more than Blackwall as a character, but he's very squishy.
