Felassan: Now you're starting to understand. Next step: go back to those friends of yours and apologise.
Solas: And who will apologize to our people as the last of them become like you?

Solas and Blackwall seem very similar when they first banter and I wonder if that's why he gets so upset when he finds out he lied about himself. He's not doing any better, even though he didn't lie about his real name like Thom did.
He sort of did though... I know Solas is technically his real name, but he pretty much called him self Solas the unassuming but helpful apostate hobo who travels the Fade seeking knowledge and who just generally wants to do what he does in peace. While in actuality he was Fen'Harel who was at one point Solas and is also known as the Dread Wolf who is also considered a god by some and he has godly powers and wants to destroy the world but denied actually being a god.
I would argue that lying by omission is still lying. Both Rainer and Solas hid who they truly were behind different identities, they were wearing masks. Solas even admits as such in one of the post break up dialogues.
We don't judge...much
And I'm not a beard girl either. With the exception of Richard Armitage as Thorin because HAWT DAMN.
I think Chris Hemsworth makes a hawt Thor too! But I'm definitely not a facial or body hair person, unless it's a bit of a shadow, cuz that can be hawt ![]()
Yeah, Thorin was the first good looking dwarf I've ever seen that still looks fairly traditional.
Droso I just read the fic :'(. Feels. Thank you..

That's also what I think too. Lying is lying, but he did not directly make up (or steal) a name like Thom. That's what I meant. Also I found it interesting that both he and Blackwall say that the titles Fen'Harel and Blackwall are like Inquisitor and try to relate to you and both have caused some pretty nasty things and can be judged or attempted to be redeemed in the end.
Oh, playlist. Why.
Spoiler
Am I the only one that makes a little AMV in my head whenever I listen to a song that fits Solas?

Yeah, their similarities are interesting
except Rainer's bloody past will lead him to a future where he lives for the individual. He'll always remember the ghosts of his past, but he's ready to move forward and let them go. Solas can't escape his ghosts.

I was wondering, for all those lucky enough not to be like me and be stuck with an Xbox 360 game, how did your Quizzes (Lavellan and others) respond when they caught up with Solas in Trespasser? (angry, sad,i.e)

It has to happen no matter what, so either we stopped their awakening or they are still safe. It had to be one of the creepiest things I ever saw in the game after learning what lyrium really is too. It made me think of vampires and human blood.
Nothing is as creepy as that black ball with red eyes in the library though. I wonder if that's the image we supposedly see in the Temple of Mythal (using Veilfire) of the person being punished for taking on a form reserved for the Divine?
If you mean what I think, I suspect that might be a representation of the Void.
And yup, things are getting kinda vampire-y in Thedas after DA:I. I want my anti-blood magic Surana to find out what's actually in those lyrium potions. ![]()

That really bothered me, especially coming from Blackwall, and I think it's what initially soured me on his character arc. Blackwall is a name he stole to cover his shame. Inquisitor is a title that I damn well earned, constantly risking my life for people I've never met. Not even close, buddy. I was happier when he turned up in Trespasser as Thom.
The analogy holds truer for Solas, though.
He seems to want to use it to help redeem himself, but I don't think he meant for you to take offense to it. He might have hinted you were inspiring him to honor the name.

Solas only almost lets go because of his love for Lavellan, but I strongly suspect he is bound to Mythal in some odd way based on how he speaks of how what you think or do will never be you. I think he's both wanting to do this, it's Mythal's Will and he wants to die or be punished as the Enuvaris were. Thom is the white version to his black I would say. Like a Yin and Yang possibly.

It looks like Mythal is emerging from a rock, and the dragon form appears more like a sea creature. (And all the water pouring in when things start blowing up suggests the place is somewhere underwater...)
Ooh... And according to Dalish legend, Mythal first emerges from the ocean.
Wow this is interesting. I've always wondered about the sea in the deeproads we see in descent:

The fundamental difference between Fen'Harel and Blackwall is that "Blackwall" for Rainier was a lifeline and a source of inspiration - for Solas, it was actually a mask and something used to accomplish his goals, no matter how ruthless. And while "Blackwall" helped redeem Thom in its own way (it at least let him survive, both literally and metaphorically, until the arrival of Inquisitor), "Fen'Harel" may yet consume Solas.
Seems to me that "Dread Wolf" is a road of deception, doom and gloom - unlike Thom, Solas was just Solas in Inquisition. In many regards, he hasn't been more true to himself than when he hanged around with his new gremlin friends.
So in some sense both are similar, but in others - they're completely opposite.

I just got back from a nap (note, not uthenera, but allergies have been playing with my system hard lately

Sometimes I see Thom in Trespasser and wonder if Solas COULD have been that guy too.

I really liked seeing him just reclaim Thom and no more running, owning up to everything, no more denials. He went to the Wardens and could do his good deeds without the weight that had been upon him for so long. But I felt like you about his character arc in the main game.

I always make him a Warden but was surprised at how sad he seemed if you just let him go free instead.

I've only gone through Trespasser with my canon Lavellan and I think I got the max feels ending possible. Sad options, imply that you were trying to save/help him, tell him you agree with his goal and want to join him, refuse to give up on him.

We've been talking about lyrium in Frank's lore thread if anyone is interested.
And to add to that, there's a landmark called "bastion of the pure" by this 'buried sea' which says:
The water shimmers, a subtle but eerie blue, reminiscent of lyrium. Swimming in it would not be wise.

Reminds me of that place with the coffins I posted a pic of a few pages back.

I haven't seen that option but he does feel bad about what he did, so I'm not surprised that sending him to the Wardens seems to net him an arc completion that makes him feel a sense of atonement as well.

I don't make him a Warden, I let him go free. I like his ending slides in Trespasser. They're awesome.

I hope that's not the case. I want Solas's decisions to be his own, however horrible those decisions might be.

He seems pretty lost if you just let him go free. I think being a real Warden gives him purpose. He is still better than before, but not as truly happy.

Yep. That redeemed his character in my eyes. Not because he was off doing good and helping others, but because he got to the point with himself where that is what he wanted to do to finally atone for what he did in the past. He, Thom Ranier. Not Blackwall's echo. Not a shadow being noble and doing good to try and exist in the world. A flesh and blood man who finally owned up to being himself. I loved it.
Ooof, right in the feels
