Just found this on reddit's DA page, relevant to current topic I think:

https://www.reddit.c...official_elven/

I get what they mean and I feel that way myself. My first romance was Cullen, but once I tried Solas none of the others came close. I just completed a Bull one and it was so sweet but still felt less passionate than those moments with Solas.

I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if opposing Solas at any cost in DA4 will result in him turning into an actual pride demon at the final battle. Given the revelations about spirits & elves being much closer than they once were, I think it's quite possible that the allusions to pride demons - in Solas' name, in the six-eyed depictions of the Dread Wolf - turn out to be literal, rather than just a symbolic discussion about Solas' struggle with his own pride, his greatest asset and his greatest flaw. After all, I think 'opposing Solas at any cost' will likely push both the Inquisitior and Solas down quite a dark path, a race to the bottom as such, so the idea of him being 'corrupted' into a pride demon isn't exactly far fetched.

Interesting. I remember my first gut reaction to Solas, in my first playthrough before I finished the game and found out all this other stuff about Fen'Harel and the ancient elves...was that he was a mage possessed by a pride demon. He mentions befriending pride and desire demons early in the beginning of the game, and ever since I thought there was just something... pride demony about him.

Given the revelations about how ancient elves may have been a lot closer to spirits, and that he says he was Solas before he took on the title of Fen'Harel, I think it's more complicated than that. But his character arc still fits the theme in DA about the quest for justice and freedom having a double edged sword. This theme goes all the way back to Mouse in the mage origin story in DAO. Anybody remember Mouse? Uldred. Then there was Merrill with Audacity and her mirror. Hawke's downfall in Kirkwall. Now Quizzy's impending downfall, potentially.

I think he has some sort of demon in him he's keeping control of if his self portrait in Trespasser is legit. That many eyed wolf is like a Pride Demon mixed with a wolf. Everytime he tells Lavellen he does not want her to see what he becomes, I see him transforming.

Same here. Romanced him on my second PT, but I didn't know the breakup was coming. Somehow I expected maybe Lavellan could run away with him or something... yes, I was very naive. :D But thanks to Solas I've learned to appreciate, and even enjoy pain :P

My bestie has declared that when it comes to Dragon Age, I basically love pain and hate joy :P  It's not *quite* true, I got the fluffy-ish Warden Alistair ending with my Amell.  But Anders?  Check.  Solas?  Check.

I was not looking for or expecting angst, especially after Anders. I had no idea.  The adorable awkwardness of Alistair seems so very far away.

My last BioWare romance before DA:I was Garrus. So whenever Solas is getting me down, I think of sweet, adorkable turian husbando who rigged my apartment with deadly explosives <3

I have a friend who is a Cullenmancer but she keeps track on the Solasmance and after Trespasser, even she agreed that there's something about the Solas romance that feels special. To quote, she mentioned that the storyline us Solasmancers got is the stuff of (Dragon Age) legend. :D And she even mentioned considering jumping ship from Cullen to Solas just for all the Fen'Harel drama. xD

For me everything that got me interested in Solas had nothing to do with his romance. The romance was lovely, but I was on my second PT and I was already sold at that point. I romanced him because I really liked his personality, views, and ethical principles... yeah...

It also feels like that romance is part of the main story. It's not a break from the game for fun (though Bull made me smile a lot lol), but a key part in it if you want to save him from himself once you learn the truth. I just feel a female Lavellan is the closest to canon in a game that has no canon. Especially if you play one in JOH.

Come on in! The licking flames are wonderful this time of year! :D

There's less painful shock you already know it's gonna go down in flames. But then there's the flip side; playing through the Solasmance and knowing how it ends leaves me with this weight in my stomach, like I'm spending all of DA:I waiting for the Damocles sword to drop. It still hurts just as bad, but in a different way.

Yes, absolutely. It's even worse post-Tresspasser if you believed once. I'm still at the beginning of Haven, but it's pain to talk to him again, and hear everything he has to say but with a different meaning.

Even Alistair could get sad quickly. First playthrough with my mage Amell, I made him king and then he broke up with me. Then, he proposed that I be his mistress and my poor mage was so offended! I also refused the dark ritual in that one. Oh boy... I really had no idea what I was doing lol

My first playthrough, he did the same thing, and he didn't "love" me enough to take the hit from the archdemon, so when I refused to do the dark gift, he went up the tower with me and watched me die! (A**!) I was devastated.  The only other time I was totally devastated was playing  a Dwarf Noble who romanced him and then saved Loghain - Wow! I had no idea what was coming. Talked about being totally bummed out for the rest of the game, geeze!

I recently learned that the second part of that come back is, "But satisfaction brought it back."

That is, *cough*, quite accurate in this case, I think.

Alistair is a sweet fuzzy apricot hiding a hard pit of angst.

I suppose that makes Solas the Orlesian ham from Mark of the Assassin. Looks tasty, tastes of despair :P

Same. Though I wish I had more time, and would gladly let my life be taken over :D I'll have a lot less time for Solavellan soon. People will depend on me and I'm not afraid at all that I'll make stupid mistakes and screw things up for everybody. Nope.

What I find funny thinking back on my first time playing DAI is I had always intedned to romance Cullen first and I did. When I met Solas. He did nothing for me. He was a haughty little bugger who had a smug smile I wanted to wipe clean with my fist lol but after talking with him, I realized we had too much in common. I thought damn... he may be an annoying ****** but he is beginning to fascinate me. After I beat the game, I played a Lavellan and gave it a shot. Best romance ever!
