He doesn't really have any good words about anybody, really. He calls people brutish and petty and I don't really know what he says about the dwarves, though he did say to Varric something about dwarves being pretty much zombie-like ;P He seems to have something of a slightly better opinion of the Dalish for being able to raise someone among them 'with the spirit like Quizzy', but he voiced his full opinion about them earlier in the game with elf Inquisitors anyway.
So while I think his dislike towards Qunari may be deepened by what he knows about them (how they were created and stuff?) or because of the Qun philosophy itself, which doesn't teach most Qunari how to be a fully-realized person (which is why many Tal-Vashoth turn to savage monsters, as he explained to Bull) I don't think they're that much more gremlin'y than others.
... Also, did anybody found it curious that elves seem to be veeeery susceptible to the Qun? In fact, I kind of get the feeling that in general they may be a bit more impressionable than others - maybe it's a legacy of them being somewhat closer to spirits than others, or maybe it's a legacy of rules of the Evanuris (well, most of them were slaves, so...) and the way they ruled them still holds some sort of tangible sway over them or how susceptible to certain influences they can be?
Most elves live under oppression. The Qun supposedly treats everyone as equal, thus, no oppression. Granted, you also don't get to be a person, but for an elf who's only ever known hardship and mistreatment at the hands of humans, the Qun could look extremely tempting--almost like a paradise. A society where even elves get enough to eat, share in the fruits of their labor, and are not either ignored or addressed with racist slurs or physical abuse? Yeah. I can see why the appeal...
Random rant - got bored and went through some random fanfiction and I have to ask... in what world or play-through Solas's eyes are anything other than clear grey?
I've seen people describe his eyes as gray-blue, green or even stark or icy blue eyes and I'm always like... wut? Am I seeing something wrong
? I have two monitors calibrated differently to work with graphic stuff so I... don't think so?
Plus, grey suits him - with him being 'grey' in terms of morals and also with grey eyes being generally associated with wisdom, since the Greek goddess of wisdom, Athena is oftentimes called 'grey-eyed' (it's actually misconception based on wonky translation, but it stuck). Also, this: http://tvtropes.org/...p/Main/GrayEyes
Well, someone did once post the HD texture of Solas's eyes. It was a mix of grey, blue, and violet. On my screen, his eyes tend toward greyish violet, and when they glow, I get a more violet tinted blue--the screenshots others show look much bluer when they glow, so it doesn't appear to be just my monitor. Could it be something to do with one's graphics card and how that interacts with the game engine? Could it be lighting? Difference in human perception? All of the above?
I have no idea.
Regarding Solas as pride demon: This surprises anyone? I don't think he's possessed by one, but he is or was one. Spirits become elves. Solas may have begun as pride. We romanced a greater pride demon.
On the more complex end of things, though--elves started out as more complex than usual spirits, it seems, so complexity is fitting--Solas points out that whether a spirit is a demon or spirit is the spirit's decision. And, pride is not always bad. Pride demons embody the all-encompassing hubris kind of pride, but what about the quieter pride of satisfaction with who one is, or what one has achieved? And can Solas not be wise and proud at the same time? I think he can. The Pride-Wolf is Solas, and Solas is the Pride-Wolf. They are not separate, even if they are presented as such. Both are part of his self portrait. Both are Solas. Whether he has an alternate form or whether the wolf is symbolic, it's hard to say. Kind of hoping he does have a wolf form though. I want to see it.
Other thoughts, from earlier today:
Solas likely began to see Inquisitor as a person after the fall of Haven. That's when, at Skyhold, he begins painting the Inquisitor's story as a fresco in the rotunda. Previously he seems to have preferred to paint himself and his own actions (we don't know for sure though--maybe we will see more Solas paintings in DA4 and they will have other subjects). I remember pointing out that frescoes are a particularly enduring kind of painting--they aren't just ON the wall, they are actually PART of the wall. Solas is also painting the fresco on an interior wall where it's less likely to crumble away quickly should Skyhold fall to ruin.
There's significance in this. At that point he's expecting the Inquisitor, and the Inquisition, to die in his plan to take the orb. But he wants to be sure that the Inquisitor's actions, and likely sacrifice, are remembered, even then. Even if he hates the Inquisitor. His way of saying you didn't die in vain, maybe? Or just that he values you (even if he doesn't like you), which may be enough.
The fresco is, effectively, the best and maybe only gift Solas feels he can give you. And unlike what he says about a gift for Sera, the fresco is not "human and fleeting." (It's elven style and we know his frescoes tend to last for thousands of years, in the Crossroads and at the excavation in Darvaraad.)
