Random rant - got bored and went through some random fanfiction and I have to ask... in what world or play-through Solas's eyes are anything other than clear grey?

I've seen people describe his eyes as gray-blue, green or even stark or icy blue eyes and I'm always like... wut? Am I seeing something wrong ? I have two monitors calibrated differently to work with graphic stuff so I... don't think so?

Plus, grey suits him - with him being 'grey' in terms of morals and also with grey eyes being generally associated with wisdom, since the Greek goddess of wisdom, Athena is oftentimes called 'grey-eyed' (it's actually misconception based on wonky translation, but it stuck). Also, this: http://tvtropes.org/...p/Main/GrayEyes

Here are pics I have taken of his eyes

Without mod:

eyecolor_by_painhidanfan-d8dgtdh.png

in_the_dark_by_painhidanfan-d8dmdef.png

eyecolor_by_painhidanfan-d8dmd5y.png

and with HD eyemod:

eyes_by_painhidanfan-d8hfeqq.png

In the middle without the mod there is violetish color that blends to greyish blue. That picture of ''grey'' eyes you sent looks like ice blue in my eyes. For me grey eyes are like this:
uvodna.jpg

and blue is this (I would know cause I have greyishblue eyes with green in the middle lol)

Clarins-Crayon-Khol-Intense-Blue-Eye.jpg

I would say his eyes are very light grey blue so depending on the light the color changes but I would still go a bit more for blue instead of grey and the middle is yes indeed more purplish. I will see if I can have a better picture taken of his eyes without mods :)

Wow. We of the nerds can do anything if we put our minds to it. Or love it so much, we use mods to get there eyes.

Another art post. :P

Post-Trespasser (It doesn't look it, but it is.): One day, Lavellan realises she's seeing Solas' dreams and not her own. (Solavellan family) Based on this text post. :crying:

Trespasser: WIP Solavellan.

Solavellan happy moments.

Solavellan in the style of the murals/cards.

Solas about to kiss Lavellan's hand.

Some WIP Solavellan sketches. Lavellan has a great butt btw. (One of them is slightly NSFW though.)

So I typed in 4187 instead of 5187 and just spent the last three minutes reading about Mass Effect and wondering how we all got onto the topic of Mass Effect ^.^

Anyway, a question I will pose for you guys. Who do you think the most powerful mages in all your parties were, in order if you feel like it and no Solas after he gets his divine power! Including your Warden, Hawke, and Inquisitor too!

All possible mage companions :D
Possibly Amell or Surana
Morrigan
Wynne
Anders
Possibly Hawke
Possibly Bethany
Anders&Justice
Merrill
Possibly the Inquisitor Adaar, Trevelyan, or Lavellan
Solas
Vivienne
Dorian
Edit: I think the separate upbringings would effect the Inquisitor's magical prowess, also minus anchor.

I'd say Morrigan would be at the top. She's got a lot of experience and knows all sorts of obscure magic. Vivienne would be up there to, she was almost at the top of the circle.

THE GREAT EYE DEBATE.

I believe that his eyes are classified as grey just because of the viewpoint I describe below. And yes I say 'view'... since it has to do with what people in this day and age consider blue/grey. It's not just a visual perception but a mental perception as well :)

And since some of you have blue/grey eyes you might be interested in this too :>

*Ahem*
So in the REAL WORLD.... technically blue eyes and grey eyes only differ in that grey eyes have even less melanin in them than blue do (or the light refracts differently somehow). That's as much as we know about why grey eyes exist. It's kind of a mystery.

Thing is: Many people who think they have blue eyes actually tend more toward the grey spectrum but they just don't realize it. I grew up being told I had blue eyes, and then once I grew older and wiser I realized mine were actually more on the grey spectrum because they change color a lot (which is fun, because I'm the sort that 'stormy eyes' are attributed to! Also the goddess Athena had grey eyes!). Grey eyes tend to have flecks of yellow in them, but not always. If your eyes ever appear to change color it is because they are actually more on the grey scale than the blue scale. But try to imagine it like this:

(-)Grey --------------------------------------------------- Blue(+)

Each of the dashes above actually translates to the varying levels of melanin in your individual pair of eyes. Genetically, they are very similar... grey eyes are basically really really lightly pigmented blue eyes (but as they are different enough, we call it a different colour). Less melanin = lighter eyes... and greyer eyes.

Why the confusion? It's because many of us grow up being told there are blue eyes, green eyes, hazel, brown etc eyes... and grey eyes are lumped in to the blue eyed category. Rightly so, honestly: grey eyes are often attributed as just less intense blue eyes. Because that's basically what they are -- a less saturated blue eye. And that's why it's so confusing for us to determine if we have blue eyes, grey eyes, or blue-grey eyes.

So back to the world of Thedas:
Given the screen shots we've seen of Solas' eyes, his eyes are very light and desaturated in colour. Thus? I toss him in to the pool with us grey eyed (or blue/grey eyed) beauts! :P

It's like tomato, tamahto. Potato, potahto.

I don't know. Solas didn't "get" divine power... he was legitimately just that powerful! He made the Veil. He one-upped the Evanuris. Mythal's boost afterwards is like icing an already delicious cake.

(in the tone of a 'your momma' joke)
Solas' mana pool so big, it took him like over a thousand years to regenerate that ****!

So I vote Solas as most powerful.
Followed by Morrigan!
...and then the Inquisitor.

That was interesting yes hahah I am still confused my eyes though. They change a little in different light but are more greyishblueishgreenish LOL I don't even know but yes I even have pics where in some they look super blue and in some they are like grey and in some they are mixture of all the colors. It's weird haha... really x_x but yes I would not say that Solas' eyes are really BLUE BLUE I they are a mix.

Interesting ChuChu!

Is it the cooler colours that reflect light better, giving them the ability to seemingly change in different light? Mine change from more green to brown, maybe it's because the green in them is a "cold" tone.

They're like this (not mine, from the eye colour wiki page):

In terms of gameplay, Surana of course, battlemage+arcane warrior+spirit healer=GOD. But it would be unfair though, because the spells and specialisation system are so different from game to game.

Solas knows a bunch of lost old knowledge and magic that non of the other mages listed would ever know. Even well-morrigan can't compete with him. I suppose from this aspect, Solas is the most powerful.

If we are talking about pure magical power and skills... Anders Merrill Wynne seems to be middle one, they are well-trained mages from circle/clan I suppose.

Vvn, considering her title, perhaps is more powerfult than them. Dorian is hard to compare, since we do not know how tevinter magic differ. The apostate group, morrigan and solas....arhh so hard to compare!

This actually remind me one of the banter:

Vivienne: You know, Solas, you do an excellent job of spellcasting without any concrete knowledge of technique.

Solas: Your rigorous training lays a solid foundation, true. It also creates boundaries, limits, where none need exist.

What did I just read?

Kind of on this thought...but this is why I hang in this thread ;)  I love the theories.  Not sure on the majority of the article but the thought that the elven gods created dwarves with the anvil of the void doesn't seem too crazy.  Just interesting crazy.

I hope Hawke is dead, it's been two years!

Hawke: I spy with my little eye something beginning with 'R'.

Nightmare: ROCK.  IT'S A ROCK.  IT'S BEEN ROCK THE LAST 100 TIMES WE PLAYED, WOMAN.

And I mean, this is Solas we're talking about. This man is terrible at breakups, and I don't mean that he doesn't handle them well. I mean, he fails completely at breaking up, every time he does it. I'm not even sure he comprehends what a breakup is, because every time he "breaks up", he just makes the relationship more serious.

"We shouldn't" turns into a trip to Lavellan's quarters, which becomes "I love you" on literally the second date. Walks away again except now she's vhenan every time they talk to each other. Third date, now it's time for a tingly wyvern pit and throwing his entire millenia-long plan into the wind. At the last moment he remembers himself, breaks up again. Toughs it out for the evanuris-equivalent of, like, a day, calling her "Inquisitor" like a true professional. Exceeeeept now in Trespasser, surprise she's vhenan again, and also "my love". For this date, he saves her life and finally tells her the truth. Two years is goddamn nothing for him, and he couldn't even hold himself together for that long.

So now he's broken up again, and it's super for realsies this time. He's her enemy, he's wearing a fabulous pelt, he told her "I will never forget you" like he truly believes the relationship is totally unsalvageable. So probably the very next time they meet, he's going to leap into her arm, twirl around, then they'll go on a decades-long tour of the Fade and grow old together. Then on his deathbed, he'll whisper "this cannot continue." And she'll say "Suuuuuuure. Sure, vhenan. I know you'll be back the very instant I turn around."

And he will be, because that's how bad Solas is at breakups.

This post is golden  <3

I've seen far more Anders fans saying what he did was right and wishing they could've joined him than Solas fans saying that about Solas.  Okay, so Trespasser has been out a lot less time but social media is also much bigger than it was back in DA2's day.

At least according to the short story about them, Anders + Justice were able to take on a bunch of templars by themselves, and Anders feels no pain when he's in full-on possession mode.  Gameplay wise, possessed!Anders + Haste = demolition crew.

Definitely Morrigan.  Maybe she doesn't have the raw power of possessed!Anders, but she probably has the deepest knowledge and versatility of casting.

I always specced my Amells (Warden and Hawke) as very powerful offensively, and weak on healing.  So my Hawke would be up there too.  Blood Mage/Force Mage and no moral scruples make for a very scary lady.

Both are wrong?  I think the way the game depicted mage rights was done...not well.  They did a shitty job of balancing out the templars to the point when you mention them in certain circles people go frothing at the mouth crazy.  So you have this "cause" that people can attach to and feel bad and actually feel like they are doing something to help. Unlike real world analogies where people can feel powerless about the inequality they see.

Solas is rolling off the apocalypse. A lot of people will die in the war leading up to it, in the chaos after, and likely the war after the chaos.  He tells you this and you can infer it from what he says. It's harder to stomach and also I think his critics are more ready to jump down the throats of Solas' defenders.  It's...not a popular stance.

I'm not going to applaud or condemn Solas until he actually does what he plans to do.

So you won't be able to do either because you'll be dead??

All kidding aside, I think you'll have to stop him before he does anything.  I don't think you'll ever have a chance to join him.
