From Dragon Age Confessions:
I've seen far more Anders fans saying what he did was right and wishing they could've joined him than Solas fans saying that about Solas. Okay, so Trespasser has been out a lot less time but social media is also much bigger than it was back in DA2's day.
Totally. I also do not agree with Solas on his goal. He is misguided and wrong but I don't want him to die. I want Lavellan to be able to save Solas from himself.
Both are wrong? I think the way the game depicted mage rights was done...not well. They did a shitty job of balancing out the templars to the point when you mention them in certain circles people go frothing at the mouth crazy. So you have this "cause" that people can attach to and feel bad and actually feel like they are doing something to help. Unlike real world analogies where people can feel powerless about the inequality they see.
Solas is rolling off the apocalypse. A lot of people will die in the war leading up to it, in the chaos after, and likely the war after the chaos. He tells you this and you can infer it from what he says. It's harder to stomach and also I think his critics are more ready to jump down the throats of Solas' defenders. It's...not a popular stance.
So you won't be able to do either because you'll be dead??
All kidding aside, I think you'll have to stop him before he does anything. I don't think you'll ever have a chance to join him.
I've found that after posting about Solas in a different thread (the thread wasn't even on Solas. It was on Bull but I couldn't just let it go when I saw someone make a completely unessessary for their argument dig at Solas). Attempting to explain why I understood what Solas was doing (and pointing out that if Solas was the player character then we wouldn't even think twice about doing it) apparently means I support his actions and will happily excuse them :I
Ugh, guys I'm sick and feeling a bit miserable... I feel like I am in desperate need of elven-themed cuteness and laughter! There has to be something out there with both Solas and Fenris together! Aid me before this disease claims me! *Overdramatic flailing*
Yeah, I'm a drama queen when I'm sick...
Kind of on this thought...but this is why I hang in this thread
I love the theories. Not sure on the majority of the article but the thought that the elven gods created dwarves with the anvil of the void doesn't seem too crazy. Just interesting crazy.
Yeah, that part was interesting. I do love seeing theories thrown out for discussion, but some of them...
This morning I find one of Solas being Dirthamen, which I know has been suggested before. Gosh, that would explain him getting on so well with Cole... ![]()
But really... we have Solas telling us he was Fen'Harel by title. I don't get the wanting to cram as many gods into him as possible, but I guess anything is possible. It's just, well... nah. ![]()

At least according to the short story about them, Anders + Justice were able to take on a bunch of templars by themselves, and Anders feels no pain when he's in full-on possession mode. Gameplay wise, possessed!Anders + Haste =
demolition crew. Glass cannon.
Definitely Morrigan. Maybe she doesn't have the raw power of possessed!Anders, but she probably has the deepest knowledge and versatility of casting.
I always specced my Amells (Warden and Hawke) as very powerful offensively, and weak on healing. So my Hawke would be up there too. Blood Mage/Force Mage and no moral scruples make for a very scary lady.
There, fixed for you. Anders can be the ultimate power house, but at the cost of having to micromanage the **** out of him, otherwise, he would die in two seconds.
I actually prefer Bethany. Not particularly powerful, but her force mage skills allowed for great crowd control.
Ok, perhaps I am missing something in my interpretation of the situation, but why do many people think Solas is amassing an army (I know elves have been disappearing, but bare with me) and going to war before destroying the world? He tells us clearly that his goal, at least until he can put his plan into action, is to have people living in peace. Unlike during his time in Arlathan, he isn't heading a rebellion. I figure he'd want a network of informants for sure, to keep track of the different player and make sure his plans can go forward without a hitch, but I don't see him bringing chaos up until the point where he brings down the veil. What would be the point? His goal isn't to free the modern elves; it's not to end slavery across Thedas. This time around, he is not a freedom fighter and a rebel. He is a man wracked up with ancient grief and guilt and wanting to correct a mistake. None of this to me mixes with him sewing chaos or having his people fighting the Thedosians.
Now, that doesn't mean elves couldn't flock to his side anyway, especially when/if his presence gets known. Many would hope that a revolution is coming that will help modern elves. Some might even commit violence in Fen'Harel's name. But, I don't think that would mesh well with his plans as told to the Inquisitor. He has no reason to want it. Right now, I see him laying low, keeping an eye on the situation while searching for what he needs to bring down the veil (if he wasn't still missing something he would have brought the veil down already, yet he seems to think it's at least a few years in the future at the time of Trespasser).

I've noticed that the people who hate Solas are far more rabidly obsessed with him than many of the people that romanced him. Kind of makes me giggle every time I read a "silly Solasmancer" comment. Like, seriously, most people who romanced him are pretty chill about the whole thing and aren't hesitating to say we'll smack the eff out of him if it comes to that. Liking a character and the story they bring is not the same as being a nutter or tearfully clinging to a bad situation. Frothing with what seems to be personal rage and betrayal over a character in a game is both confusing and worrisome.

And Zevran, I really think you should let that particular fish back in the sea!

Which does make me wonder. If Solas isn't drawing all the elves to him, then what are they doing? Where are they going?
I still get nervous about the idea of a massive blood magic ritual, but maybe it is just the ancient elves and sleeper agents withdrawing from the shems.

I bet elves are disappearing for all kinds of reasons. Some may be trying to join Solas while others are probably grouping up to oppose him.
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we some see weird cults form out of this in the future. Both for and against him.

Perhaps some of them at least have started hearing rumors of Fen'Harel's appearance (the ending slides does mention the fact those rumors exist even if most don't believe them) and are getting the hell out of Dodge before the shems start thinking a purge is the way to go? Again, some others might wish to join him? At this point, I can only speculate. Too many elves are going missing to be only Solas' sleeper agents though, at least the way I've interpreted it from the slides.

Watch it turn out to be the most ridiculous elvhen festival in Ages. Like, a f**k it all, it's the end kind of party.
And that party ends up fueling the release of the Evanuris.
Oh, yeah.
Don't have time to sift back for the original commentary...but as for Solas being terrible at breakups I think it bears a bit more fleshing out.
Solas after Crestwood scene: We're broken up for realsies. Inquisitor.
Solas after Corypheus: I want you to know that what we had was real. (I'm personally imagining at this point that for me & him the relationship was just taken out of breakup mode. In the most awkward I'm not speaking to you for two years way.) It's supported when you have the option to 'breakup' with him in Trespasser.
Solas in Trespasser: I'll never forget you. (Again I'm thinking that this is his way of saying we're broken up for realsies....psych!)
Seriously it feel like everytime he breaks up with you he says it's for realsies...but then he takes a breath and he's saying something that basically binds both of their hearts back without letting them have the 'dating tile'.
Future Converstion:
Random Guy: "So you single?"
Lavellan: "Yes...no...maybe..." ![]()

Wat
We're the Solas thread, is there anybody here wanting him to destroy the world?
The only thing I can say is that creating the Veil wasn't necessarily a mistake (since we don't have enough information about the circumstances, we do know however that the Evanuris were on track to destroy the world), I feel really sad for him that stopping the Evanuris meant the end of the elves. I'm not entirely sure Solas knew so many would die when he did what he did and it was vain of him to think he had it under control, but he didn't kill anyone on purpose.
We are kind of lacking in knowledge so we can't know how the world would've looked like if Solas would have done nothing at the time (or if there would've been any sort of world left), so I can't say if it was the wrong course of action to take (Cole tells him he was right in one of their banters).
I sympathize with him and I can understand what he's been through, I can even sort of understand how he was able to look at the people of Thedas as non-people gremlins, all of these don't accumulate to me agreeing with his plan though, and I'm pretty certain that this is true to most of the people here.
As Uirebhiril said, it seems like those who hate him obsess more over him than us Solasmancers, the most annoying part is when they take the fact we chose to befriend him as some sort of indication of our personality and attack people who like him like they are sociopaths.
However... I am soooooooo curious how the world would look like without the Veil, it sounds like such an interesting world to explore. It definitely doesn't mean I feel like Solas should go on with his plan (unless we can guarantee everybody's safety -cough-).
Edit: so many.. issues with... words.. I can't.. English good.
I think I'm still too sick to be writing long posts ![]()

I still rage a bit when I think about Jacob Taylor. Or the Illusive Man. But that's less to do with the characters and more about bad writing.
IMO BioWare writes characters well enough where I come to like most of them, given a little time and thought.
Right. Bad writing is one thing. Being angry or having emotions about characters or events that happen in the game is normal. But at the end of the day you still go back to the real world where Jacob didn't cheat on you, Thane didn't die, and Solas isn't set on a path to destroy the world.
I wonder if the all-encompassing rage I sometimes see about Solas is because it kind of points out you didn't have total agency over the events and lives of others in DAI.
And TIM... a bit of a missed opportunity with him in the end. His arc didn't complete quite like I had hoped.
Lavellan: "It's complicated...
"
Random Guy: "Say no more."
Solas: "I think I want to breakup."
Lavellan: "You think?"
Solas: "Yes. Can I take a few days to decide?"
Lavellan: "Uhhh....I guess?!"
Solas: "So I have decided that we should indeed breakup."
Lavellan: "Okay...whatever I guess?"
Solas a month later: "I've change my mind and I can't live without you. We should get back together."

This was actually a conversation I had with an ex-boyfriend when he was trying to decide if he wanted to see other people. Solas can be excused...but only because there's not another woman in the situation/it's TOTALLY COMPLICATED.
But seriously....never IRL.
