Vivienne is interesting in her ambition and sounds tough as nails but very image aware in terms of surviving and thriving. The question with her is will Image win out or will the Power of the Inquisition be enough to override what could be race gating? 

 

actually I don't care that much about race gating, as long as I don't have to play as a male dwarf. I just hope she'll be a (bisexual) romance option. ^^ But since having a relationship with an elf would be quite scandalous, I could imagine her being gated against them.

I'd always planned to only romance him with elven characters (a mage and a rogue) so I'm not disappointed but feel for those who are.  I don't think him being elf only is at odds with his being open minded, he might not be against romancing humans and dwarves in principal, he might just not fancy them.  Or he may have a strong belief in the survival of elves (which is understandable), and see relationships with other humanoid species as working against that belief... which might mean he wants to be a Dad!

I see Vivienne as the sort of person who goes for what she wants and gets it. So if she wants a dwarf/elf/qunari Inquisitor, she'll go for it.

I wonder if Solas being only available to elves is perhaps for cultural reasons of some sort, but I'm not very au fait with elves.

Yeah, I took the interview as confirmation of LI status. But the interview never said anything about gender/race gating, I'm shocked that he's elf only.

I'd pretty much taken it as a subtle confirmation too and do think that is what Mark is referring to.

I.e. she may plan to use Inquisitor for her own ends, but she won't let her personal feelings take over. Kinda reminds me of Raistlin and Morrigan.

Mark could be referring to Solas as being at least confirmed to romance elves only (so far). As in so far we have confirmed that he can romance elves. We don't know about other races yet. At least that is what I'm hoping. I'll wait for something official before I get disappointed.

Man, what a half-bummer. All of the LI announcements have been half-bummers for me, as the three I wanted are (possibly, in his case) romances, but none can be romanced by my female Trevelyan. 

 

I have some elves planned, but I am not entirely comfortable playing female elves in DA, mostly because of the City Elf origin/strong themes of fetishization that surround so many of the female elves in lore, so if he really is elf-only, he went from being my primary romance to "maybe 8 playthroughs down the road, once I know what to expect".
