Yes, but they are enchanted socks! They're the softest socks he's ever worn, and when he puts them on, he thinks of her. They deal extra damage when he kicks people!

Ooh the mental/emotional torment. Alright let's go with that!

Did you notice how much he tries to harden himself when facing a romanced Lavellan compared to his pained and regretful expression with a friend Inquisitor? He's so gentle with the friend, but with Lavellan he is near tears and his brows are tightly pressed downward.

Hmm Ive been stripped of Gremlin rank and sentenced to mere Troll.

Disappointing

Look i'm not trying to offend people (probably not true but it sounds like something I should say)

I'm really curious as to why you defend him so much, like him so much, and your character still likes/loves him

Go to my thread, give out your points and I will answer back without fece slinging. At you, Solas gets all my wrath, and I might find your Inquisitors absolutely mental, but in the nicest way.

No worries, I wasn't offended :D I struggle to take anything too seriously :D

But I mean, the first spirit to take form? The actual Maker? The soul of the world itself? There's so much I want to know...

Well... she may be more ancient than even the myths suggest she is. Solas calls Evanuris 'the first of his people' and I don't think he just means it as leaders or the most powerful ones. They were likely one of the first elves.

Though I have to wonder about the origins of Mythal. She just... springs from the sea like frikking Aphrodite? ...Even Aphrodite's origins were less vague!

Anyway - I've noticed that water and earth seem to be connected (twice already we see Titans being surrounded by massive underground bodies of water), in a sense that they may be more associated with the Earth/unchanging world, while fire (sun) and especially air may be more associated with the Fade.

Water, seems to me, might be sort of a 'medium' state between solid and etheral - a 'bridge' between both states...

(don't mind me, those are just random musings...)

Let's not forget her statues in the Deep Roads with the coffins and lyrium well. I wonder if she sprung from the lyrium water?

 I'm getting a laugh out of your posts my slightly offensive friend! As much as we may say we love differing opinion we're still a Solas obsession fan thread and will defend that bald elf to our last breaths! I'd offer to come over and defend Solas, but I somewhat question my own obsession with him, so I'm probably not the best Solas defender.

Sorry sister, you really are speaking for yourself here. It's true this is a fan thread, but you don't have to like Solas to like the character and what he represents. We need an antagonist in each game, and we need conflict. This time around the role is being set up to go to a former companion, and a well-written one at that. I guess some people get sore about the feeling of betrayal, but it's not often we get to see the other side of a villain before they're coming at us from the other side of the battlefield, you know?

Part of the "romance" aspect might be that we have the meta knowledge via Weekes that Solas really does truly love and care about Lavellan, and that he is ultimately someone who cares about others and doesn't like to see suffering. So we can sit here and discuss Solas with that in mind, even if our characters have no clue. How we have those characters react in game is going to be different for each person, and dependent on choices and dialogue.

And we have something like four years to wait to see the result of that. <_<

I've noticed, yeah. :( He's deeply hurting, if he wasn't trying to harden himself, he'd be a sobbing puddle on the ground. I wish my Lavellan could just hug him and let him cry, but they both have thier duties, and he owes her to stay composed and to calmly explain himself to her.

Not only that, he has hard time walking away - with a friend, he still ends with 'live well, while time remains' and does his typical arms-behind-back walk, but with Lavellan he's slower, arms loose on sides and shoulders slightly drooping, like it takes a lot from him to not turn around any step now and go back to her.

Especially his "my love" line. Gareth-David Lloyd nailed that too good! Or when he says "and now you know" then quotes the Dalish curse. He seems embarrassed, shamed and a bit scared of her reaction. You can hear the small tremor in his voice.

I noticed that too! He's just completely given up his last bit of hope. You can see his heart breaking.

Or the Blight might have changed them into something more like the Magisters. It's just from the way he talks of Mythal, she was above them all.

I'll try to keep my geeking out to a minimum, but the fact that the ancient elven gods were once just generals in a war is so freaking cool. Can you imagine witnessing a fade memory of them fighting alongside each other and bantering like your companions in the Inquisition? Even then Mythal probably kept them in line. :)

For all we know, the traits attributed to the elven gods originated in their combat abilities. Maybe Sylaise was an exceptional fire mage for example and after thousands of years ended up with the legend of bringing fire to the elves. And what did they believe before the other elves deified them? How in the heck did the writers come up with all these layers of religion and lore without going completely insane?

On topic: Come back Solas, there are too many questions! Was he a general as well? Or a servant who ended up rebelling? Not sure I'm on board with the 'calling out of the fade' thing. Do we have some evidence for that?

I have this little wish that in Tevinter we master time magic with Dorian's hep and go back to the past to see what we can use to stop Solas and witness the Envanuris and their daily lives.

He already has one sock. He just needs the second one trapped in the Skyhold vault to get a matching pair!

Oh, is that how he lost it? I thought he could have had two socks, but Xenon the Antiquarian told him he could help himself to a sock from the basket, "BUT ONLY ONE!"

Stupid special Solas had to pick the super special rare magically-infused Fade-touched wool sock from Ancient Arlathan--finding or creating a matching pair is not easy to come by!

Eluvians! I. Want. Tevene. Eluvians!

Can you imagine how to how far away corners we could travel, with all the logistics or time to get there cut? Or if somehow Dorian managed to accidentally hook his inventions to old Elvhen network?

Ah, well sorry for speaking for everyone. But I do think (as a thread) we don't always take Solas hate very well  ^_^ not that that's some horrible thing. We just really love the character, and it's sometimes annoying to see people hate something you love.

I do think we're a lot more welcoming of differing opinions than a lot of other fan threads though  <_<

I can't wait to got there! We will be in the heart of it all, and they have so many secrets and we only got a small taste of what scholars know from Calpernia's old master. I have a strong feeling the Old Gods origins will be revealed soon.

Hating a character is far better than not caring at all about them. I only think it's sad that people will see Solas so one-sided after everything, but their feelings are still valid.

But I am so reminded of my earlier observation that people who hate Solas seem to be far more obsessed with him than those who romanced him.

(And yes, true. We are. It would just be nice if people of more differing opinions would come and play and hang out and chill and discuss stuff too, rather than deciding we're all idiots and refusing to actually engage in discussion.)

I wouldn't say more obsessed than romancers (I know what lurks in those fanfiction websites) but I won't deny Solas left me with them feelz.

My feelz are just angry hatred

Seriously though someone come argue his good points with me on my thread.

Hey! I was very coherent!

And he is, he is the devil.

But I wont argue that here since you guys are obviously obsessed with him (like those weirdo women who send love letters to psycho murderers in prison)

You're all Solas romancers right?

Your Inquisitors are like weirdo women who send love letters to psycho murderers.

I can compromise.

Hmm Ive been stripped of Gremlin rank and sentenced to mere Troll.

And why can't you give a coherent answer here? We are actually quite reasonable regarding the "Solas is evil" argument. The people who post here regularly are acutely aware of his BAD side. We're more intrigued with him as a character than obsessively in love with him. So calling us OR our characters "weirdo women who send love letters to psycho murderers in prison" isn't really fair. We don't condone his actions or plans. We are hoping to redeem him because he is teetering on the edge of good and bad but there is so much more to him in-between that. It's fine to hate him but if you're going to say that, make it a good debate instead of instigating!  :P (Sorry for speaking for everyone. I didn't know how to word this properly!)

No offense meant, but if you saw absolutely no good points about Solas during the game, I'm not sure what any of us could say to convince you. Different strokes, after all! If you're curious as to how we feel, you can just read the thread a lil bit.

The short answer: Most of us believe Solas is a very nuanced, sympathetic character with a clear good side as well as a clear bad side. Most of us are invested in and love his complexity. That's why we're Solas fans, and why we argue round and round about all sorts of things here, very much including his bad points. To call us his "followers" isn't quite accurate, considering most of us want to shake him until he changes his mind.

True - especially that a lot of what we discuss isn't even that much Solas-related - or only related in a sense that he's pivotal to the story. Personally, I wouldn't be sticking to this thread if we were just swooning over Solas or something. There are good debates going on here, as well as ideas thrown around, on variety of topics.

...Which is why it's quite annoying when some try and deride everything and everyone (just like I'm annoyed at people who think that I think that Inquisitor may be back in next DA apparently *only* because I'm obsessed with romance content for Solas). Like... folks, there's so much interesting stuff going on here!
