Why?
Uh, as opposed to what other option? It should be obvious by now that why I dislike him.
I am perplexed as to why everyone is engaging with someone who calls himself a thoughtlessranter.
What can I say? I grow on you, it's part of my charm

Puh, and his excuse for me? He betrayed me, not the other way around. And I didn't read the book but that sounds really cold. He did this before the Inquisition?
Sure, it's cold. But you don't win wars by playing nice with traitors.
And as for the Inquisitor, he lied to them, sure, but he also made them one of the most powerful people in the world.
It's hard for me to say that he even truly betrays the Inquisitor. He wasn't honest with them, but he helped them with their goals for the time that they worked together, and then now that they're not working together anymore he's pursuing his own (really, really shitty) goals.

As I recall, he made the decision to drown people infected with the taint to save the village. There were healthy people, citizens of his village, down with the refugees at the time he flooded the area. He killed sick people to save the rest, but also killed healthy people as collateral damage. Was he wrong for that choice? Why?

I wasn't interested in power, and I'd much rather my arm back thank you. He might have helped you save Thedas, but it was his mess to clean up (I said that in a snooty Solas talking about the Qunari voice btw)
Thanks, quick question though, do you have some type of fly thing?
I have all the fly things. ![]()
...what are these raisins!?
The details are of no concern to you for now. Life will continue as if nothing happened. But you will be summoned when the time comes.
You could free yourself by figuring out our plan. It's somewhere in the last 500 pages of the thread. Ironically, if you read all of those, you'll also learn the answers to most of your questions about why we like Solas so much.

The same answer I gave midnight tea. There were other choices, he just chose to hurt people, innocent people.

Well, as the for the arm, Quizzy's the dipshit that snatched up a suspiciously glowy and dangerous looking orb. You can't pin that one on Solas.

Uh that sounds both tedious and unless you want me quoting an arguing with the last 500 pages of your thread I doubt that that's a good idea.
Jokes on you! Morrigan ate the cookies!
No judgement, flies are cool... when they're not in my house, or on my food, or in my car, or on my body, or buzzing around me. But cool other than that.
Maybe your not thinking straight (your user name has the word 'Thoughless' in it).I try
I think it made worst now seeing everyone defending him. It makes me question humanity, oh god i sound like that bassterd
How are they destined to be doomed, because your elitist a** (not yours Solas's) says so?
We are talking about a concrete scenario - no elitist a** tells anyone that they're destined to be doomed.
Also - this is not about elitism. This is about survival. Bouth in case of scenario presented AND in case of Solas and the elves. They will be doomed unless something drastic is done.
... So how quick you are to condemn the elves and call them 'elite' and just let them die? Why are you so quick to value their life as lesser than others?
He's such a friggin hypocrite, one of my favorite banters is where he tells Bull that even people in crappy situations have choice and should have that choice! That's what that is! You can't be sure of anything, they may suffer and die, but they could pull through! And maybe they're finding happiness in their suffering lives too. Little things, like kissing their kids goodnight, or finding new love, or enjoying some fermented juice! People deserve their chance at happiness and life, no matter how slim, or how dire it is!
That particular banter was about a choice in a situation where world isn't at the brink of a disaster or extinction. It ISN'T always about a choice - be it in games or real life. Even Soals him says says it: sometimes terrible choices are all that is left. And considering how compassionate and mindful of well-being of others he is all throughout the game, in a way that makes me certain that he genuinely is, the matter of saving elves doesn't seem to be just one of simple elitism or elves being 'magicky people'.
I mean.. don't the elves deserve to survive too? If so - why do you judge their lives as if they had less value than others?
Well, as the for the arm, Quizzy's the dipshit that snatched up a suspiciously glowy and dangerous looking orb. You can't pin that one on Solas.
His orb! And if the dipshit didn't pick it up Thedas would be under Corypheus's control!

Too late. Accepting the cookies in a post was all that was necessary. It's irreversible. As I said, don't worry about it.

No one deserves to survive. People simply do or they don't. Solas is looking out for his own, can't fault him for that. Nor can anyone fault me for looking out for mine by killing him in the process, if necessary.
Maybe your not thinking straight (your user name has the word 'Thoughless' in it).
I noticed that it has Thoughtless in it. I typed it in their myself, I'm quirky like that.
Again, my endless charm.
The same answer I gave midnight tea. There were other choices, he just chose to hurt people, innocent people.
What other choices were there? And how do you know there were, considering you weren't there and information found in old Crestwood village basically confirms that most people were blighted or symptomatic of infection?

Yes, but in this case it's a matter of survival, not a matter of ascribing value to certain group of people, especially by observers like us.
I am perplexed as to why everyone is engaging with someone who calls himself a thoughtlessranter.
Dude reminds me so much of the clowns we had stomping into the Zevran thread on a weekly basis (in Origins' heyday it was it was often much more frequent than that) to try to rile us up about how much they hated him and how they totally murder him on every play-through etc.
Our standard response was to simply post Zevran making out with dwarven Wardens. For some reason, that worked.
Now, I ain't saying I'm reaching for my tablet pen to draw random Solas/Cadash make-outs, but I ain't saying I'm not, either.
It's the religion or rather the religious climate in western countries that really gave the reason to single-out and hate Jews anyway, because there was hardly ever any other reason to single them out. It's a very complicated and century-, if not millenia-old issue though, and I'm not sure it's time and space for that^^;
That might have been how it started and a huge factor in how it persists, but it alone is not the sole factor, nor was it the sole factor during WWII. Hatred takes new forms and new pretexts over time. I could go into more detail, if you want.
Also no - sadly, intelligence and enlightenment doesn't protect one's country from teeming with superstitions, no matter how old-fashioned.
I was being sarcastic. I'm saying they fancied themselves intelligent and enlightened, but that didn't make them so.
Remember that after WWI and prior to WWII the situation in Germany wasn't really one that fostered enlightenment, really. Most Germans were frustrated - they were forced to pay massive reparations for World War I and then the Great Depression swept over the western hemisphere and made the economic situation worse. In times like that, it's really easy to entertain more and more extreme ideas, or even invent entire "scientifically-based" race research or listen to an impassioned leader who'd say that it's all other's fault that the nation is suffering...
I know. I'm Jewish, I'm a Jewish Studies Minor, and my mother's father's entire Jewish family got wiped up in 1943. And I also acknowledged it in my previous post, if you cared to read it.
It's worth noting though that before Germany's disgrace after WWI, they were at the forefront of class, sophistication, art, science, philosophy, great thinking and military might in Europe. After their fall in WWI, Germans also lamented how they used to be great but now fell to rags, and part of how Hitler rallied them was stoking that old pride from their glory days, and promising to recreate the glory they lost. To that end, many Germans considered their own scientists, philosophers, etc. especially more civilized, enlightened and intelligent compared to all those lesser ones around Europe, and especially the world. And when Germany's greatest minds said, "Yes, scientifically we're The Best and they (the Jews) are genetically Inferior and Other," it was considered a stronger argument than just "Our religion is right," because many of Europe's best minds at the time considered themselves above such old-fashioned discrimination. Anyone could claim their beliefs were right, but scientists could back it with reason and evidence and other hoity-toity stuff. (I'm obviously really condensing this.)
All I'm saying is religious differences weren't the sole factor, or else the Nazis wouldn't have brought "race science" into it. If simply saying "You're of a different religion" was enough to justify discrimination and genocide, they wouldn't have had to resort to, "We're the superior master race and you're an inferior subrace whose mere presence pollutes us" or even "You existing takes jobs and money away from others who deserve it more."

Curses!

Yes I can, frequently and without restraint.
It shouldn't be us vs them. They're all people!
Yes, but in this case it's a matter of survival, not a matter of ascribing value to certain group of people, especially by observers like us.
Exactly my point.

Well, it is, because life is unfair and both elf and human refuse to work together.
His orb! And if the dipshit didn't pick it up Thedas would be under Corypheus's control!
Corypheus was released and planning to do something anyhow. For all we know, he didn't need the orb to convince Venatori, corrupt the Templars, almost conscript Southern mages and have a Nightmare demon amplify false Calling in Wardens to make them create an army of demons for him to command.
He'd tear the world in one way or another - and if it wasn't for the Mark, he likely would be unstoppable.
What other choices were there? And how do you know there were, considering you weren't there and information found in old Crestwood village basically confirms that most people were blighted or symptomatic of infection?
How do you know there weren't?
Yes, a question with a question and I avoided your question, I'm a**
There's always other options though, if you don't see them it's because you refuse to look.
The mass murder of innocent people can never ever ever in a million years call me an idealist but I'm just being a moral human being ever be justified. Especially if you're doing it out of some shriveled up sense of duty and supremacism!

Uh, why do I get yelled at for being uncivil when people keep commenting like this? Please kind ser (spelling it like DA so it works for either gender) what have I done to personally offend you? Let it be known so I may protect my honor and humbly apologize.
Well, it is, because life is unfair and both elf and human refuse to work together.
Doesn't mean they can't in the future, and there's already some human/elven friendships, so it isn't impossible.
