...

Really I'm not sure how I'm supposed to react.

I made the account so I could rant about my feelz.

I might be abrasive but I don't know why that completely dismisses my arguments to clowning or trolling.

I like Zevran by the way, guys kissing does not bother me, and Zevran can do so much better than that homicidal a**.

Post Trespasser I sent my Lavellan off with Zevran. She is done with Solas.

But I still think Solas is an amazing character and hands down one of the best I have seen in any media for quite some time.

But truly....after watching all this discussion and stuff, I think we all just need to get to work on letting the Evanuris out. I really do think they could solve modern day Thedosian problems.

Solas is taking an active role in murder. Making a conscience decision that this ideal world is more valuable than the lives in Thedas. But you know the answer to your question, however it does not translate to Solas's actions. If he knows what he's doing is so terrible he shouldn't do it.

Cop-put again. You said that there's ALWAYS a choice, I asked if there was a choice to save both mages and templars and you just avoided the question... Seems to me that for you a good solution for a problem is denying problem's existence or just dodging the question  -_-

And Solas hasn't yet committed any mass murder - what's more: he saved Inquisitor and stopped Qunari threat, both to prevent unnecessary bloodshed and likely to either give Thedas a fighting chance, stop him, or perhaps help find a better solution that Solas himself just can't see now. If you pick an option with a  friend to redeem him, he states, verbatim: "I'm looking forward to being proven wrong again".

Also - it's just naive to say "oh, if he doesn't like it, he shouldn't do it". There are situations where terrible things have to be done, or can't be avoided.

You know, seeing the art with Solas and Fenris........made me think......

.....if all elves got all their magic back and survived the veil coming down......Fenris would be a pretty terrifying one-man demolition crew.

I think so. There's another explanation, it could just mean, when the two realities merge, people may cease to have physical bodies (become more spirit like) or their memories and personalities could be wiped (like when Cole forgets the "real" Cole on the spirit path). Like wiping a hard drive. They will be exposed to a reality that is suddenly changeable. I could imagine a great many people simply going crazy. Like the rift mage trainer says...Mages broke their minds to learn it. So yeah, even if Solas is not being completely literal about the whole world dying....the world as most people know it would cease to be, and that could cause great chaos.

There is also a lot of dropping of the word "time" in Solas' dialogue. In the non-romanced dialogue the last thing he says to the Inky is "live well, while time remains". Possible foreshadowing for time travel. It's a bit of a stretch but you never know. Since they introduced it in In Hushed Whispers it seems it could be something the devs want to explore further. Certainly it is something Solas is interested in. If you make Alexius work for the Inquisition Solas gets paired up with him to research time magic.

Naive... or preciously optimistic?

@midnight tea for some reason I can't quote you. Solas is taking an active role in murder. Making a conscience decision that this ideal world is more valuable than the lives in Thedas. But you know the answer to your question, however it does not translate to Solas's actions. If he knows what he's doing is so terrible he shouldn't do it.

@TheEggCrusher I was told that differing opinions were welcome. Not gonna deny I've been talking sh*t about Solas, the a**hole deserves it in my opinion. Please put the effing pitchforks away. I am so god awfully sorry that I have strong feelings about Solas and wanted to vent.

I can respect that but...you also need to respect your surroundings. We're happy to talk about Solas and his bad points all day long, but when you go into a character's fan thread talking about them like that, it doesn't really come off as if you want to have a conversation about anything. It sets off the troll flags, and I get the feeling you know that. You don't seem entirely dense, my friend.  :P

Augh. Finally caught up with the thread. How is everyone posting so quickly?

As to current discussion, I am with The Beard on this:

This is a war. And if it's a war between ancient elves and every other race in Thedas? Then I can't fault Solas for fighting for his own. If a low approval Inquisitor calls him out on his bloody bullshit plan by saying, "You would murder countless people?!", Solas replies with, "Wouldn't you to save your own?"

And he would have gotten that right about my Lavellan. The main reason why she didn't just run away when people started calling her the Herald of Andraste was because using the Anchor really did look like the only way the Breach could be closed, and she knew running away would just endanger everyone in the world, her family and her people included. But if, say, the Breach didn't spew out demons from the sky, and only made humans sick, and if human nobles were especially susceptible? Well, she still would have saved them, but she would have been sorely tempted to book it every time. And if humans reacted by blaming this new sickness on the elves and started attacking them left and right, as they most likely would have? Then she would have blown that Breach right open to encompass the whole sky.

Point being, your people are your people. The world isn't fair and equal. History is full of blood and filth. And sometimes, you just have to fight others for your own, because absolutely no one else will.

So yeah, Solas has chosen his side, and my Lavellan has chosen hers. She will do everything within her power to make him change his mind and try to come up with a better solution than what he already has planned (because heck, she knows Thedas isn't looking so hot right now either). But if either option fails, and the opportunity presents itself, then she will take up that blade and drive it right through his heart. As much as that thought pains me, and as much as that hurt to type. Solas isn't the only one willing to become a monster for his people in this game.

Alley's of a similar mind... Plan A is the redeemer/do this another way path. Plan B is the stop him at any cost path that was also an option at the end of Trespasser.

She's not going to try one, fail, and then go "oh well, lol" and sit on her hands. That said, she's going to give it everything she's got to succeed at Plan A before she reaches for the trusty 'ol murderknife. If the Dread Wolf has to be put down to save everyone else in the modern world, then she'll do it, and she'll do it herself.

I have to disagree, this specimen is clearly a Trollius Minorus. The Vhenan Trash gang are much better at taking the piss out of Solas.

Plugging for the wonderful ladies of Vhenan Trash :D

Funny thing: genuinely appreciating and understanding the character makes taking the piss out of him a lot easier.

Although...I feel I should apologize for the thread derailment.  It was my offhand comment this afternoon that started it, I think

Anyone up for a fic rec?

Looking Glass by Feynite

Warning, it is a WIP, but this writer does have a history of finishing their longfics. If you aren't reading this yet please do yourself a favor and start. I wasn't sure about it at first because time-travel is like one of my least favorite tropes, but so far this works. It is a heartwrenching look at a Lavellan who couldn't stop Solas in the present, but gets thrown into the past, where she has one more chance to stop the whole thing from starting. So good, so full of feels, and really lovely descriptions of ancient Elvhenan using the new lore from Tresspasser.

Oooh! A warrior Lavellan! <3

I might give this fic a read. :D

Troll I'm not arguing, but misogyny? Since when was it misogyny to infer a woman or women of a specific group were crazy for a specific action. It'd be misogynistic if they'd said all women are crazy, not just Solasmancers. Even if it is wrong. Usually :P

Because it's often not done in isolation.

Chapter 16 of Doughnut Rebel is out!

http://archiveofouro...apters/11256994

Also, there's this very short but incredibly well written fic that's just small snippets of Solas' journal. The author just posted a new chapter. I highly recommend you read it, but feels alert: it has feels.

http://archiveofouro...apters/11257000

Fluff! I finally caught up on this thread and I see we had a guest and my cookie reputation is still intact. ;)

Had a pleasant birthday. Boyfriend surprised me with tickets to an upcoming Legend of Zelda symphony. :D

I also found a playlist via Songza called Sweetheart Pop which is pretty much all love ballads and teen/modern pop love songs, which works for fluffy moods/inspiration.

Now, some fluffy reading and attempts at writing.

Well, as the for the arm, Quizzy's the dipshit that snatched up a suspiciously glowy and dangerous looking orb. You can't pin that one on Solas.

But.....shiny!

I LOVE THIS FIC AND ALL HER OTHER FICS OH MY GOD EVERYONE READ THIS NOW PLEASE DO YOURSELVES A FAVOR AND READ IT NOW!!!!!

I took a quick peek and saw this in the notes:

'Time Travel Therapy With Lavellan and Solas'.

Thanks a lot, Trespasser.

:D  Might have to bookmark that one for later.

So I'm slightly jealous of the folks who picked a canon romance that happens to get a wedding and such in Trespasser. They don't have to wait 3-5 years for what is in all likelyhood, even more angst.

Also, if something crazy happens and they pull a Mass Effect 2 on us where we keep the same protagonist but due to 'circumstances' we get all new companions, would you guys be able to make it through an entire Dragon Age game without romancing anyone in the (extremely slim) hope that the conclusion of Solavellan is worth it?

Definitely.  If there's someone I really wanna romance, I'll just make a new character to experience that romance.  I've invested far too much headcanon, time, and thought into the Solavellan story to abandon it now.

Well if I managed to stay loyal to Kaidan, I think waiting for conclusion for Solavellan is not going to be a problem.

Totally. I didn't romance anyone in the main game for ME2. Stayed faithful to Liara and picked up the romance in the DLC, but had just Shepard looking at a photo of her where everyone else got romance scenes.

Same here! My canon Shepard romanced Kaidan in ME1 and played through ME2 without romancing anyone just so I could have her reunite with Kaidan in ME3. I never regretted it. ;)

And yes, I'm way too invested in Solas and Lavellan's romance to abandon it now. I'm seeing it through the end, whether it ends in tragedy or at least in a bittersweet note.

Because it's often not done in isolation.

Problem is this was done in isolation, and too many women try making any accusation they dislike that is aimed towards them about misogyny. When you throw that word around, it looses bite and all meaning.

edit: Not to mention, if someone were actually sending love letters to someone they knew was psychotic, people would indeed wonder about their sanity as well.

If it's what you want, do it.

I think all Lavellans are awesome with either direction they take.

She's either strong enough to see it through to the end, or she's strong enough to say "That's not me." and move on.

Both totally respectable.
