If it's what you want, do it.

I think all Lavellans are awesome with either direction they take.

She's either strong enough to see it through to the end, or she's strong enough to say "That's not me." and move on.

Both totally respectable.

But let's face it.  Silver fox Zevran.  Very, very difficult to say no :D

Definitely.  If there's someone I really wanna romance, I'll just make a new character to experience that romance.  I've invested far too much headcanon, time, and thought into the Solavellan story to abandon it now.

Indeed. Even though I'm pretty sure this is going to end in tears (still holding out hope they'll be happy tears though!), I am commited.

Well if I managed to stay loyal to Kaidan, I think waiting for conclusion for Solavellan is not going to be a problem.

I dropped Kaidan for Thane. Because apparently I can't truly enjoy a fictional romance without it emotionally wrecking me.

And on that note, yeah I'd hold out for the inevitable Solavellan angst as well. Stupid elf.

I think we can still see that if we go deep into the Fade :) Time travel ain't the only solution.

Oooo......wouldn't it be cool if we got to see cinematic memories of the tragic downfall of each Evanuris?

I better watch what I wish for though........I don't need 7 more Solaseseses in my life.

Alas, in the universe where Alleyana is the Inquisitor, Zevran and Fenris are both palling around with the Warden in the Fade. So even if she wanted to hook up with silver fox Zevran, she couldn't.

(I mean, Tannusen is a sharing sort of fellow, generally, but sharing with his own sister might be a bit weird. Plus, the Fade.)

The Warden Alleyana universe, however, she absolutely hooked up with Zevran. The version who met Duncan instead of running off to join the Dalish after slaughtering Vaughan definitely got the better deal, even with the Blight in her blood.

Stupid apocalypse egg... good thing for him, she's at least as stubborn as he is. Probably more, considering how bad he is at breaking things off. (If she broke it off, oh boy. The end.)

Same here. I thought Cullen and Chiara had some pretty good chemistry and entertained a "in another world..." playthrough where they got together, but it quickly became confusing and upsetting because she's supposed to be with Solas. I've spent literally hundreds of hours playing the game with them and perhaps hundreds more fantasizing about them. She can't be with anyone else.

Wound up having to make a new character with a whole new name and appearance for Cullen.

For Solas, whatever happens, my girl will still always commit to him. Even if it ends tragically. If it becomes too sad to bear, I'll just have to make another character who loved someone else because my girl's fate is tied to Solas.

If I stuck to cannon I can see her being stubborn and not giving up on him no matter how stupid he's being. She also doesn't have a problem ending him if he can't be made to see reason!

But I'm not one to stick to cannon, so I'm still deciding what direction I want to go.

Also, if something crazy happens and they pull a Mass Effect 2 on us where we keep the same protagonist but due to 'circumstances' we get all new companions, would you guys be able to make it through an entire Dragon Age game without romancing anyone in the (extremely slim) hope that the conclusion of Solavellan is worth it?

I've been committed to this drama train from the start.  There are no stops.

Hi thread, how are we doing, all calmed down?  ^_^ That was quite a read.

Naive  :P Sorry. Optimism doesn't apply to people. You're looking for idealistic. I'm optimistic, but cynical. Don't trust the human race worth a damn, only certain individuals that prove worthy of it.

Lol that does not sound optimistic

I can respect that but...you also need to respect your surroundings. We're happy to talk about Solas and his bad points all day long, but when you go into a character's fan thread talking about them like that, it doesn't really come off as if you want to have a conversation about anything. It sets off the troll flags, and I get the feeling you know that. You don't seem entirely dense, my friend.   :P

In his, or her, defense they did offer to take it to their own thread. But also obviously wanted to argue... probably got a bit more than they expected

Plugging for the wonderful ladies of Vhenan Trash  :D

Funny thing: genuinely appreciating and understanding the character makes taking the piss out of him a lot easier.

Although...I feel I should apologize for the thread derailment.  It was my offhand comment this afternoon that started it, I think

:P Technically there was no derailment, Solas stayed the center of the conversation.

But.....shiny!

That's why my Lavellan picked it up!

Lavellan: Um, am I interrupting something

*orb rolls towards her*

Lavellan: OOOH MINE!

I took a quick peek and saw this in the notes:

'Time Travel Therapy With Lavellan and Solas'.

Thanks a lot, Trespasser.

:D  Might have to bookmark that one for later.

So I'm slightly jealous of the folks who picked a canon romance that happens to get a wedding and such in Trespasser. They don't have to wait 3-5 years for what is in all likelyhood, even more angst.

I read the first chapter, it's really good! Sad, but good!

I am out of likes, so *like*

I don't think the thread was derailed though? ThoughtlessRanter did bring up valid points, though he could have phrased them better. We're still good

Oh and Cee! Couldn't log in yesterday, so belated Happy birthday!

Agreed! Actually I found myself in agreement with them a few times, but you know, with less Solas hate. They made me laugh too But yeah, maybe worded a bit better.

Because Solas

Problem is this was done in isolation, and too many women try making any accusation they dislike that is aimed towards them about misogyny. When you throw that word around, it looses bite and all meaning.

edit: Not to mention, if someone were actually sending love letters to someone they knew was psychotic, people would indeed wonder about their sanity as well.

Yeah, maybe a sexist comment... or even a misogynistic comment, er I guess? But to call them out for being misogynistic? That word gets used to often nowadays, in my humble opinion.

Those women are ... something, but they (as in the person) did refer to us as those women.

I think we can still see that if we go deep into the Fade  Time travel ain't the only solution.

I usually hate time travel stories, but people can do them well with the talent

There is an emoticon limit, seriously BioWare!? Why??

I'm slaughtering everyone's emoticons now... see what you made me do BioWare!? They were innocent!

Difficult? I rate it more as impossible. Well, at least for my Lavellan

I mean, just today I was thinking about my Lavellan getting back into fighting shape and what would it look like to someone like Zevran the first time he sees her fight. She's a knight enchanter(which by the way, has the best line with Bull in the dlc) so I always imagine them to get all zen like when they fight right? Jedi sorta I guess.

But when she would be done fighting you would see this little dainty elf mage covered in blood from melee and glittery from her barriers. Not to mention all the fire.

She'd be pretty hot to Zevran I imagine.

Did you have to make a Trevelyan?

The super story reasons for Lavellan was that we'd never romance anybody else after Solas if we had the option. So the others are there for the rest of the guys :)

Because it's often not done in isolation.

Fluff! I finally caught up on this thread and I see we had a guest and my cookie reputation is still intact. ;)

Had a pleasant birthday. Boyfriend surprised me with tickets to an upcoming Legend of Zelda symphony. :D

I also found a playlist via Songza called Sweetheart Pop which is pretty much all love ballads and teen/modern pop love songs, which works for fluffy moods/inspiration.

Now, some fluffy reading and attempts at writing.

First, I'm glad you had a good birthday! :D

Secondly, Symphony of the Goddesses? I took my fiance there when we moved here. Bought the tickets about 7 months in advance. It was awesome and totally worth it!

Thoughts:

  1.  Blood magic not necessary to drop Veil.  Could use mages to amplify magic.  Like closing the Breach.  How?  Not sure.  Elves not all mages.  Possible?  Solas attempted to coach Sera to see... something, through the Breach.  Maybe even modern elves can channel magic.
  2. Alternatively modern elves already killed to make way for Qun spy elves and ancient spy elves.  Once situation changed, Qunari elves went to Seheron, ancient elves went to... wherever Solas is based.  No one notices servants--maybe didn't notice elven servants being replaced either?
  3. Dragons not whole since Veil.  Used to rule skies.  Likely missing spirit aspect, like everything else.  Become Great Dragons when whole, maybe?  Maybe not?  Dragons important.  Need to think more about this.  What changes when dragons not sundered from selves via Veil?

There's space magic...kinda....in Mass Effect. If that helps to sway you.

But really, the story and characters are on par with Dragon Age (though I personally prefer DA because I played it first). I've never met a Dragon Age fan that didn't like Mass Effect, even when they hated shooters!

I don't have much to contribute, but this was read in Mordin's voice. XD

I agree that blood magic is not necessary to drop the Veil. Wouldn't Solas have just gathered blood mages?

And to those who haven't played ME, they are worth it. The ending gets a bad wrap, but the journey is so good. And I wasn't big on shooters but I gave it a try and it's really fun!

This is a war. And if it's a war between ancient elves and every other race in Thedas? Then I can't fault Solas for fighting for his own. If a low approval Inquisitor calls him out on his bloody bullshit plan by saying, "You would murder countless people?!", Solas replies with, "Wouldn't you to save your own?"

My response to that was literally: "Er... no."

I've been to Symphony of the Goddesses. This is the expanded one, Master Quest. I think they added more music and updated with Skyward Sword as well. Still, I had such an amazing time that even with repeat tracks it will still be so great. One of my favorite game series ever. :D He was cute and hid the tickets under my purse.

I'm sure I'll get it eventually. Probably once the thread starts quieting down and I have little to distract me from my Solas withdrawal symptoms. Of course Fallout is coming out next month (YES :D SO EXCITED) and I still have yet to buy the Witcher... it may be awhile until I play the series. I'm already spoiled as all heck of course (Indoctrination theory for the win!). But I still don't have much to contribute to Mass Effect conversations  :P

No Trevelyans! ><

Apart from me not wanting to play humans or nobles in general, something in me is against Lavellan getting a tragic romance while Trevelyan gets the happy, stable, fluffy romance. What's good for the shem is good for the elf!
