This discussion about mortality vs. immortality is truly depressing. :(
I feel so bad for Solas sometimes. I wouldn't be able to hate him, no matter what he did.
There should've been an option to hug him.

yeah. It is truly sad. It would also play into his determination to see his old world return. While his world was in a downward spiral, the new world is literally killing themselves off. Entire dalish clans are being wiped out, Morrigan even says that in the future all magic and wonder will be gone/elvhen culture/dragons/magic will be lost to this world. How utterly depressing that is for mere mortals let alone Solas. Even I who has never seen magic and live in the real world regret that there is kind of no wonder left. Its all been explored/explained. I kind of envy people who have belief. What I wouldnt give for magical unicorns or fairies to exist lol (wouldnt give the world mind you, because even though there is no"magic" there is in the way of people/creativity/love and all that. So maybe thats what we can try to convince him with?)

To quote Javik from mass effect "stand amongst the ashes of a trillion dead souls and ask the ghosts if honor matters. The silence is your answer"

Sorry to be even more depressing but when you have ended your world (with who knows how many souls trapped) and see the new one you created ending itself, Its hard to hate Solas or not at least try to understand why he puts much more than honor on the line to stop what he sees as just a grim future of ashes and ruin the way thedas is heading now. And Im guessing he thinks he will see it and hear the silence....alone. That is if he is still immortal?

Gosh Im cheery. Sorry

Edit: ha, funny that while I was writing this people were bringing up Javik....spoooooky.

Umm, maybe he's just being grim and fatalistic? :P The last time he manipulated the Veil, a lot of people died, so he's got reasons for assuming the worst.

You're right. There's every reason to be skeptical about what he says will happen. He's certainly made wrong predictions before, and he is certainly very grim and fatalistic. He doesn't have much faith. Remember what he said he was going to do when he couldn't seal the breach...basically go hide and wait to die. This could be the worse case scenario in his mind.

The thing is, if tearing down the veil will unleash chaos, how can he know exactly what will happen. He would need omniscience...and unless he's the Maker, or has seen the future (possible), he can't really know for sure. Reminds me of a line Hawke has, about how that's what happens when you change things....things change but you can't always control how.

Then again he could have very good reasons for thinking so. He's willing to risk it knowing what could happen. I don't think he would be as emotionally conflicted as he is if he didn't really believe it will be very dangerous or deadly.

Haha, I haven't been around the forums properly this week. Come back today to see some interesting threads and posts about the place.

The bemused poster in the non-spoiler section who doesn't realise women play this game

The angry poster in the spoiler section who doesn't understand what being part of the Qun would have put IB through during the two year trespasser gap

And the worlds maddest ex-Solas fan who showed up here and in their own thread  Ahahahaha

You gotta love a character that can make people THAT mad, right?

Nobody gave a crap about Coryfish, but people are desperate to get at Solas.

I look back at everything written yesterday now that I am in a coffee hangover and the only thing that keeps coming to my mind is why the hell are some people so intent on teaching us we are wrong for liking a character just because they don't like them or what they plan to do? Arguing the point over how Solas is doing something bad and wants to indirectly commit genocide as if we aren't very well aware of that fact. Pretending it's because we're silly girls besotted in love. Like, seriously?

You'd think some people could come here and have a good discussion about Solas's bad points without finishing it up with, "...and you're all bad for liking him anyway!" Pfft. I guess it's because those types of people are capable of understanding and empathizing with the character as part of the narrative and see no need to question how anyone can like the bad guy.

Still. Pfffft.

It comes as no surprise to me that a character who is fast becoming my favourite in the DA universe would turn into an antagonist. I have a history of loving sympathetic villains.

And no, it's nothing to do with my womanly hormones loving 'bad guys' or whatever. I'm actually more attracted to nerdy guys and cute girls. Meh.

But I love a good morally grey character.

I've never been a fan of the whole 'Good vs Evil' or 'Light vs Dark' people. Both sides are boring. I don't like the white knights who over compliment, save everyone and sweep the lady off their feet. Boring. But I also don't like the evil laughing, cat stroking bad guys either. Also boring.

But give me someone in that grey area and I'm all over that like a rash.

Solas is right there. I don't agree with what he's doing at all, but I can sympathise with the guy stuck in the WORST TIMELINE, who just wants to tear it down and get his home back.

Then again I have been called, by my own mother, a cold hearted bitch  so maybe that's it. I should probably note that my mother and I actually get along fab. T

his was an honest comment and not a cruel falling out or anything xD

I was thinking about a scene from ME3 recently in regards to Solas, that I'll need to look up because the details are hazy. It's one of the times you talk to Garrus and he was being asked advice on fleet positions. He talks about how during war he can see why ruthless dictators are needed - so they can put emotions aside and favour the cold hearted maths of it all. Lets millions die in one place so billions can live somewhere else.

Trying to save everyone is nothing more than a nice sentiment.

I feel a bit like Solas is fighting a war that no one else realises is going on  and they're all about to become casualties without putting up a fight..

...apart from my dream team of Tevinter protag and Quizzy... and TITANS. They'll take those elves down!

Because we will be taking elves down I imagine, if they are becoming the agents of the Dread Wolf.

Elves never catch a break.

There's evidence of liquid water on the surface of Mars.  Cutting-edge prosthetics can actually interface with the nervous system.  Neuroscientists are using light to manipulate living neurons and learn more about how we think.  Oh, and we've still never left the cradle of our solar system to visit places like this:

We don't need magic.  There's still plenty of wonder out there :)  About 15 billion years of it, in fact.

I do mean that Bull thread   I wandered in and swiftly wandered out after the OP got mad at everyone's correct replies.

Extra love for Romi Paku <3

I will also watch almost anything that has Mamoru Miyano in it, and got super excited when he showed up voicing Ling. Had no idea that was going to happen (I first watched the series fansubbed as it was airing in Japan.)

I re-watched the whole of that series at the start of the year and then a few weeks later Netflix put it up. Made me tempted to go again, but I haven't....yet.

Olivier Armstrong rates highly in my ridiculous animated character crush list

Ahem, that's Major General Olivier Mira Armstrong.   I could never address her as anything less than that.

And yeah, Mamour Miyano as Ling! <3 I was very disapointed when he didn't also voice Greed.  I was looking forward to that (big fan of Ouran so I've heard his goofier side, but was looking foward to hearing him get his Light on with Greed).  I think I managed to find it out before he turned up in the anime.  It was back when I was on deviantArt and was following a Japanese FMA fanartist who would helpfully give highlights of magazine articles and news to us.

Have you heard Romi Paku perform Tobira no Mukou e as Ed?  Best thing to come out of the 2003 anime.

More determined? Because of her reminding him somehow of people/times long gone?

I take a liked/loved Inquisitor's impact on Solas to be a gateway to hope, however the actual Solavellan story is resolved (and if we have a choice).

Because on the one hand if he gave up his plans to stay with Lavellan that whole age thing comes into play with the he doesn't and she does and most likely his children etc will too. While on the other hand he's going to destroy your world and (possibly) you with it. As I said, it's a 50/50 thing.

I dunno how to describe it honestly.

To be honest, I'm assuming that even if he destroys Lavellan's world it doesn't mean he can't save HER, but in the same thought I think he probably might not want to put Lavellan through that so he may destroy her along with it anyway.

If I recall right he tells all the other Inquisitors to live well while there is time but he doesn't say that to Lavellan. Kind of left me questioning it.

On topic: Are we even sure that Solas is still immortal? I got the impression that it was when the fade and the waking world was separated that all elves lost their immortality, and that the only reason ancient elves like Solas and Abelas were still around and kicking was because they entered Uthanera. Were the elves truly inherently immortal, and if so why was it not passed on to their descendants?

Mortal in the sense that if you fatally stab him he'll die? Yes. Mortal in the sense that he ages? No I don't think so. He would have been dead already. Also, I got the sense that the sentinel elves didn't age too. Otherwise they wouldn't be kicking around still would they? Abelas says they linger and everytime the temple is breached their numbers dwindle, which gives me the idea that they aren't making more of themselves and that they have been dying off in battle, not age.

Besides, if their lives had shortened to the lifespan of the average Thedas elf I don't think Solas would see a difference between them and current elves?
