Somehow the thought of him doing that makes me imagine a horribly broken person who is literally mad and trying to tape a dead lover back together after accidentally blowing them up. They are crying and unable to understand why it's not working as they slip slowly towards oblivion.  Horrifying.

No, the spirits are their own people with their own personalities which will turn into elves. Just like Cole can become a human.

Last time I mentioned this people went the Frankenstein route with it too.

Could be, but it seems that creating it in the first place weakened him so much he needed to sleep for millenia. He must've been putting his life at risk to do it, so I don't think he'd make the Veil in such a way that he has to be alive to power it up.

That would be horrible. But I think some other immortals are still left who might also live. The Evanuris in particular do not die easily. They don't seem like pleasant company either, but who knows, given an eternity he might make friends with Dirthamen.

It's also possible that he plans for Thedas to end and for him to be the only survivor, after which he will create new elves using spirits.

First answer was a good point.  I didn't think of that, but that's a good argument.  But we don't really know if it nearly killed him.  It could have simply drained his reserves of power so that he entered uthenera expecting to wake and find that the Evanuris were trapped and the elves were all free.  Instead he woke to discover he had ushered in the apocalypse.  ... Oops?

Second answer:  Can totally see Solas forging a friendship based on enmity.  Sounds absurd but it could work.  They would spend eternity trying to think of new ways to be horrible to one another without killing each other--because after all if they killed one another, they'd be truly alone.  At least negative interaction is still interaction.

With Solavellan stuff, Trespasser hasn't ruined anything in that way for me. I've just never written much about them that wasn't full of feels and angst.I have just about one entire Solavellan fluff story and another that's mostly fluffy. If anything, I just have more feels and angst to unpack there and some of it has been dribbling out. Only it's also aftermath stuff too, and her adjustment while knowing so much more now.

What I'm trying to finish is this story and give some warm, fluffy moments to my Lavellan and her first love. Yet fluffy things can be a challenge. It's just not flowing the way I want it to yet, even though I know what I plan to happen. I just want to give these girls some loving and warm moments before I have to eventually break them up at some point. :P Though that isn't for quite some time after this story.

You know....it dawns on me that the a lot of Lavellans who romance Solas must not have the....happiest of relationship history? Depends on age and stuff of course. I mean, a young enough Lavellan may not have had any relationship history at all.....but I set my Lavellan around 29 for the start of Inquisition so the fact she isn't bonded to someone by that age I was like "That's odd.....need a reason for that...." so I have been fleshing that out. Still not sure about what happened, but the only tings I can come up with are bondmate died, left or no one ever asked her. All sad.

And then I read stuff like what your Lavellan has been through and I'm like "Wow, some of our Lavellans have just the saddest love lives possible....just never a winning situation...."

Which makes my alternate post-Trespasser situation all the more tempting because it really would take the flames of Lavellan romance misery up a notch. Up several notches I'm afraid. At least I think so.

That sounds like the first few thousand years will be really rough. But who knows, maybe the Evanuris after their lengthy imprisonment and without slaves worshiping them would eventually grow into OK people. Solas grew from hot-blooded and cocky to adorkable Fade nerd, so why can't they?

It just seems so... painful and like it's coming from a place of unbearable desolation. I guess more like children that make up games with imaginary friends and use rocks and sticks for toys because they just have nothing and no one. Because sure, the spirits will be their own people and will be companions in their own right, but it leaves things on uneven footing?

I know. I'm not making any sense.

They can give the baby a bath and put him to sleep with lullabies  Then Nirwen comments on what a great singing voice Nehn has or something.

Ha, no, they're currently on the path to the river, picking up a basket of knocked over laundry together. It makes sense, I promise. :P

Also, I gave the nice singing voice to Halina in my post-Trespasser scene I wrote ;) and may eventually have to go into friendship among the three of them.

No, you're getting to the rawest of degrees with this. I can only hope what the writers eventually decide to do isn't as dark as some people here are capable of coming up with. ;)

It makes total sense.

Solas  :crying:  :crying:  :crying:

But hey, look at it this way: If his plan is to create new people from spirits and become the all-father, he has the chance to nurture a new, better society. He was so good with Cole, and it's emphasized over and over that he's pretty good at communicating with spirits.

I'm still working on the gap between she and Nehn breaking things off and DAI, as there are about 8 or so years in between, but I do have at least one other thing in mind, but I've said it before that her relationships with Nehn and Solas are pretty much equally important in her life, but in very different ways.

Though, honestly, she and Nehn do have a happy relationship. Even though there's cultural pressure and a sense of unfulfilled duty, which gets internalized. Both of them are affected. Nirwen, being bi but loving another girl and Nehn, being lesbian....what else is she supposed to do?

But yeah, love life for Lavellans can definitely hold a lot of difficulty.

IDK what you guys mean. I mean, Alleyana was even engaged at one point! To a really nice blacksmith, no less. What more could a warrior want?!

She's an AU of the Tabris origin. It ended in a bloodbath.

But yeah, love life for Lavellans can definitely hold a lot of difficulty.

My Lavellan got pregnant when she was, like, 18 or so at one of the all-clans-meet gatherings by a guy from some other clan. I was never clear on how Dalish treat something like that, but hey, it's a child -- they were good with it. Then she marries a longtime friend in her clan and has a child by him. Her first child is sent to live with the father and his clan when she is old enough to understand so that way she can get to know him too.

Then Lavellan's husband gets sick and dies during a bad fever that sweeps the clan. She gets sick too, loses the baby she was carrying, and the other child ends up being taken in and raised by the husband's sister since Lavellan took a long time to recover. Since the child was young and it would have been disruptive to just take him back, he stays a part of that family instead of being returned to Lavellan. She ends up being the head clan hunter (to go along with the DAI background) and focuses on that. She has no care or concern for relationships until she's sent off to the Conclave, and, well...

My Lavellan is defined by a cycle of joy, loss, and acceptance. Solas did nothing to help break that cycle.

Did anyone actually create a backstory that was sort of fluffy and unassuming for their Lavellan? Maybe some of the really young ones, I guess could lean that way.

It is entirely possible Thedas will end without magic.  It is also possible that it would simply become more like the real world that we live in.

..................(snip)

I wonder if it's just those who entered uthenera when the Veil went up?  Those elves will be immortal, provided they survived and are able to reawaken--which is apparently much more difficult to do than it would have been pre-Veil.  Any elf not in uthenera at the time will be mortal, and elves who go into utnenera after the creation of the Veil stand a higher chance of dying or simply never waking than they would have prior to the Veil.  Pure speculation on my part.

To the first part, I kind of wonder if this is where the overall story might head. You could go for alternative endings. In one, the world shatters (breaking the bone to fix it), and the Veil is lifted. Or two, you save what is, and the world becomes more and more mundane. Because the way I see it, magic and creatures of magic (dragons, etc) are kind of like relics left by a time when magic was the norm. Since the Veil went up, they have been disappearing (Morrigan said something about saving what remains, lest the world become entirely mundane). Perhaps Morrigan's end goal is a compromise -- Solas' is full on Fade reunification... and then perhaps the Qun or Chantry's view may be saving what is and to hell with what was.

Something like that.

And for the latter...
I think you might be right in that elves already in uthenara might find it more difficult to return from it due to the Veil.

Furthermore...
I think any with a strong connection to the Fade can perhaps use that power to establish immortality just like the Ancient Elves of yesteryear. You'd have to be a very skilled mage, mind. Mayhaps Abelas and crew are like this, or maybe their bond to Mythal as an enduring God keeps them connected. There could be many ways to spin it... but since I take it Solas was awake when he made the Veil, I think he is just such a talented mage that he has an enduring connection to the Fade with or without the Veil. Other elves, not so lucky. The Evanuris could have dealt with it, I'm sure... but the average elves who raised these spectacular mages to godhood? Probably not. And now, all newborns are handicapped in that only some have even a little connection to the Fade (modern day mages)... and they fear it. They fear Demons, they fear being possessed (and the Chantry or Circle don't exactly encourage positivity in regards to the Fade or magic in general). If someone embraced it, as Solas does, maybe they too could raise to the heights of immortality. So for those of you in this forum who despair at Lavellan dying of age before Solas? I give you hope. ;P

I did.  And yes, my Lavellan's pretty young.  In fact, probably the first PC in a while who was younger than I was when playing her.  When I came up with her backstory, I didn't know that Solas was going to break our hearts.  I didn't even have any interest in him at first.  I just wanted her to have a happy home life for variety's sake; my Amell was separated from her parents very young in the Circle, and Hawke's family was a hot mess.

After finishing the Solasmance, I then decided at some point that my Lavellan's romantic entanglements (really, booty calls :P) beyond Solas would be easier.  Because Solas was her first relationship, and that's a rough start to lovin' :D

Quite the rough start, definitely.

In retrospect, I'm glad I gave Nirwen solid family and friends.  Amaya still has Alistair and her brother, but we know what happened to the Cousland family, Hawke is Hawke. Bethany is still around but Hawke ran off with Anders, which has its own set of massive feelings and things that must be done and dealt with and are not easy. I was thinking that even if I were stirring things a bit culturally for her, that she might have some stability before getting thrown into the events of the main story.

Naturally, the walking definition of "it's complicated" had to run off with her heart. :P

We don't really know if their lives are shortened or not, but from Abelas's codexes, we do know that there are, or have been, shemlen Sentinels who were born to the ancient Sentinels post-Veil.  Abelas laments that they can't understand what Mythal is/was, and they can't understand what was lost.

Yes, this is my assumption. The elves born pre-veil don't age, the ones born post-veil do. I imagine most of the elves born pre-veil were probably killed when Solas brought down the veil, like we hear in the Vir Dirthara.

Hence why I said Solas' kids with Lavellan (unless he brings the veil down) will all be born with mortal life-spans.
